Kai just needs to play given how much time he’s missed and how many games he’s failed to finish.

If he’s not starting the game then he should play vfl.
We haven’t had any continuity in the forward line all year.
So if Kai is fit, he plays imo.

I was supposed to be flying down for this one, we booked everything in January but I read the draw wrong (don't ask) and we are going down next week. After I realised my **** up I bought tickets to the Hawks V Pies at the G, that should be an experience. Will have to watch the Lions in a pub on the Thursday night.
FYI - Royal Derby would be the first choice to head to.

I suspect Kiddy will be a week to week proposition for the rest of the season as he gets back to his best. Not surprising in the least and just part of it for him.

Conditioning is a tricky thing. I think once he's conditioned he's in week in week out. No need to rush it. That is the beauty of having 7.5 wins banked.

Anyone else think our injury management is (uncharacteristically) off this year?

Oscar has been played in to the ground.

Lohmann kept coming back too early.

Ah Chee i am not sure about but played well early despite being hampered, now seems to be costing him

Starce always seemed a bit risky coming back in minimum time although every side seems to do that

Not dire by any means but a few calls that seem to be costing us

Maybe a lack of desire to play through it at a high level eg. Lachie who seemed to play better with a busted foot

Oscar has been rested and managed as needed.

Lohmann outside of one game has been managed fine (and don't fault the coaches for that game).

Starce is being managed well.

Ah Chee is being managed well.

Players play through niggles every year and always will. For every club. Can't really fault how we've managed things this year.

Oscar played every week until it was bleedingly obvious he was unable to, now out two weeks and counting.

Starce should take the year out if he needs it, my query is whether he should have played v sydney

Lohmann was so far short of fit from the start vs cats. How is that not injury management from the club that is responsible? It has put him on the back foot since. Was well short of general fitness by the north game.

Oscar played when he was cleared to do so. The coaches had a plan with Fort which obviously didn't work so they pivoted to give him time to rest. They didn't persist.

Starce would 1000% take the year off if he needed it. He was fine to play Sydney. Can't plan for a head knock.

Lohmann and the physios should take responsibility for him playing that game more than the coaches. It was not the right call. The one **** up above all else IMO. They are human though and everyone from the coaches to Kai will learn from that.

Interesting discussion. When things don't appear to be working out perfectly for injured players or they've been injured or carrying injuries and not playing all that well the blame is always put onto injury management.

But sometimes things just happen , players have different injury tolerance ,often outcomes can't be foreseen.

Unless you're on the inside and know exactly what's occurring it's just guesswork.

Last year I would've said 100% Neale shouldn't be playing but we wouldn't have got there if he didn't.

Being cleared to play when you shouldn’t is injury management though. That’s the (according to me) error

neale is an interesting one isn’t he. I believe his injury wouldn’t have benefited from rest given it would not have totally healed and he would have lost condition. He did look broken in the semi!

And yes fair point re inside, i guess the oscar article about him being a week to week proposition got me thinking

so oscar was good to go against north and definitely should have played?

Yep. Was cleared and they had a plan with he and Fort. It didn't work (injury early on didn't help) and they've moved on from it.

Again it is the cleared part i am saying was the error. He was going in injured and we haven’t seen him since
Anyway feel like we are going around in circles so i will take that eternal online advice and log off :)

For what it's worth I am with you and wouldn't have taken that approach if I were making the call, but equally I can appreciate how easy it is in hindsight to say I was right and they were wrong. To be fair I think many were in the same boat in saying they wouldn't have done that.

Lohman looked horribly short of a gallop and just out of form by last week. Maybe just poor selection rather than injury management.

The one I would query is Starcevich .But I'm sure his health would be our first priority. It was just the way he went down that unnerved everybody. Like others I don't want to see him back until he and the club are totally comfortable with his fitness.

Oscar hasn't been able to get off the ground all year . He was probably as fit as we could get him and we figured he was better as he was than the alternatives and medically he was good to go. The guy played a quarter and a bit with a completely busted shoulder so he wouldn't be complaining about much.

Agreed. We’ve been pretty conservative tbh.

What we need is some defensive aggression from the midfield. Would love to see our average pressure rating per game trend this year.

I think people forget that Dev Robertson is still only 23 years old (turning 24 on the 30th June) and he has plenty of good football in him and an ability to go ‘next level’.

In the selected side, only Morris, both Ashcrofts, Wilmott, Fletcher and Lohmann are younger than him. Competition for spots in our side is tight, but there have been plenty of highlights and finals experience in his 43 games. He has stuck with the club and been patient. He gets his reward this weekend and I hope he has a great game.

Oscar has reportedly had an epidural in his back. That is an injection of cortisone into the middle of his spin, the hole bit in vertebra. As I myself was advised this week, they use a local antiseptic to put the needle in but it still apparently hurts like hell. Then you can wait days or even weeks to feel the effects if it works. If as it seems he has an inflamed joint in his back they will be waiting for it to settle, as my specialist told me, everyone is different in how fast it works, if it works and so on.

Obviously, we’re a bit banged up and probably struggling a bit for motivation. We know we are going to make finals but have banked enough wins that that is almost guaranteed already. I suspect players have their eyes on the bye and sometimes, no matter how professional you try to be, the subconscious can be very powerful.

I expect us to be much more switched on in the last two months of the season. Right now is not the time to be playing your best and while we are winning a lot, we really aren’t anywhere near it.

Really like the Dev selection feeling he will bring in engery defensive aggressiveness and accountability this cannot be underestimated.
Ressie watchers has his disposal by foot improved?....was really his only glaring weakness i hope he has a cracker of a game personally always liked him.
