Honestly I would like nothing more to see Dev play as a defensive forward and stifle either Amon or Impey both are very damaging and gather many meters with there kicking.
Coaching panel knows best but I believe Dev could really win a battle with either of them.

For all his weaknesses (ball use) his strengths (pressure, two way running) are exactly what we were missing last week. With him and Bez in I am bullish we'll see improvement in that area. Even if he's sub and brought in for the fourth quarter.

Glad Berry is back in. I think we beat North and Melbourne if he didn't get knocked out.

Good for Dev to get a run. I'd reckon he'll be sub. If we're lacking some hardness in the middle I'd be keen to get him in there. Someone needs to give Dunkley a bit help in the middle defensively. Also good to have a midfielder that runs both ways and likes to tackle. Yes that is a bit of a dig at the Ashcrofts.

💯 ⬆️
Bez and Dev will bring 2way running which will take pressure off some of the guys who perhaps aren't defensively minded.
As for Dev I wouldn't be surprised if he was the sub.
If he has been playing as a defender at VFL level he now has the experience to play in any third of the field.

Oscar has reportedly had an epidural in his back. That is an injection of cortisone into the middle of his spin, the hole bit in vertebra. As I myself was advised this week, they use a local antiseptic to put the needle in but it still apparently hurts like hell. Then you can wait days or even weeks to feel the effects if it works. If as it seems he has an inflamed joint in his back they will be waiting for it to settle, as my specialist told me, everyone is different in how fast it works, if it works and so on.
If this is true he likely has a disc bulge or herniation. Much less pain if the cortisone injection is done with the use of anaesthetic rather than antiseptic😉

Rapt for Dev, thought he was a chance for a straight swap with Berry last week, I think for a while we need to focus a bit more on attitude and team play than shear talent. One thing is for sure the Hawks will try to out work us to get their handball game going, and we've got to rob them of space in close and run through the middle to stop them

Interesting interview with Mitchell ion SEN this morning with David King asking re some of his players “driving hard and low” otherwise known as ducking. Mitchell said all forwards have to find different ways of kicking goals and basically that’s a skill where the other play has to tackle him correctly. Not sure how you do that when he’s ducking, Shall be interesting to see tomorrow at the game how many frees he and Ginnivan get. Hopefully us Lions supporters up in level 4 GA down the Ponsford can make some noise.

Free kick Hawthorne!

Interesting with the Dev selection, I wouldn’t mind seeing him play at half forward like he did in 2023 in our finals run. Apply tackle pressure and lock the ball in the front half.

Best guess as the 23rd player he’ll be the sub, but I wonder whether the coaches will make the call a bit earlier on someone like Levi Ashcroft to come off in the 3rd qtr with an eye to the Essendon game next week.

We're not innocent in this tactic. WAshcroft is pretty good at it.

Answerth had an off day, but he was not on his own regarding turnovers.

The more disposals you have the more likely there will be turnovers.
Our top 5 turnover players are also the top 5 disposals players being all midfielders bar Zorko.

In this game Levi had 22 disposals and also 6 turnovers equal most with Answerth. Dunkley 28 and 5.

It is when you have low disposals and turnovers that's a problem, like the players on the list below.

I will also include Coleman even though he had 19 disposals seeing we all know he is a great kick

Rayner155
Hipwood94
Fort114

The other thing that annoys me with the constant criticism of players like Answerth, Berry and Dunkley and their disposal is that a hell of lot of those turnovers are either under extreme pressure or after a 50m sprint to get to the ball or play. Those guys are gut runners and workers and are often out on their feet.

A little bit of perspective and context goes a long long way.

Yes and that’s not great. Can’t imagine that this is something that Fages would encourage or want. In Mitchells interview he almost endorses it as a valid tactic.
Yes he did.
I hate seeing Washy do it. A little piece of my heart breaks every time it happens and he gets a free…

Dylan Moore is another one to look out for as well alongside those two.

Newcombe is a bit of a flopper as well in the midfield.

The Dorks have won the most free kicks this season. The umpires need to be on high alert for the ducking, shrugging and diving of Jack Ginnivan and Nick Watson.

By 6.8 a game if you are a team that is around 50/50 ff/f/a.
Thats a huge discrepancy especially when 2 to 3 of those with the Hawks are forward of centre its a grubby tactic imo.
