Me too.

I don't know where I would've ended up without a young girlfriend who stuck with me and looked after me when I was young ,stupid and tbh not very nice. Certainly not where I am today, that's if I had've survived.

But we digress.

You turned on the switch by not going today Dalions. The guys were never going to lose .Also exposed some holes in Hawthorn's structure.

We seem to respond very strongly in backs to the wall games .

One interesting aspect is that Rayner could be a weapon on the MCG if we play him deep forward when everyone else is tired and his strength comes to the fore. There's a key to him somewhere.

Also agree with 3KZ , Lester's just too competitive and reliable to ever have his spot questioned. As Tom pointed out Payne vs. Gunston was pitiful to watch. Hawthorn' mosquito fleet was non existent if the supply coming in is always under pressure.
Behind every good man is a good woman.
Hopefully I get home early enough tomorrow to watch the game.
The boys still seem hungry so that is the main thing to come out of the game.

I had Noah ahead of Jack in my best because Noah was able to shut Watson out of the game completely whereas Jack , good though he was , had a free jump at the ball every time it went down there and zero pressure from his opponent once it hit the deck as well.

Still ,he was very good.

Awesome being at the G today with 6 of us. Team performance A1.
Only staggering thing of the day was Sicilly getting bumped and bowled over, umpire directly side on 10 metres away, play on no free given then 3-5 seconds later Sicilly was given a free kick by the same umpire. We were absolutely staggered in the stands how that occurred. I get told umpires are only wired up to other umpires, after this incident i find that very hard to believe. Somehow umpire changes his mind 3-5 seconds later. I need to check the replay for another look.
Awesome win.

Answerth was huge today. Sound with ball in hand, and elite defensively. Fort also really nullified Meek which helped to get our stoppage game going. He also looked accustomed to the pace of the game. I’d play him over Oscar next week.

Levi Ashcroft too is quietly compiling a debut season of quality. Him and Will certainly have a chemistry when they play.

Overall, a nice reminder that when we are switched on, we are hard to stop.

That was a great bump from Eric.
I watched it again on replay when I got home and it looked fine - still don't know what the free to Sicily was for

Kane and Dillon still trying to make the game 'safe' ?

Dunstall pumped him up tonight
I actually like it when he calls games
I think Dunstall sees what most of us see, but there is something about Lester’s desperation and skill when the ball is on the deck that makes particular appeal to those of us who received our footy socialisation in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

For the record, today Lester had
13 Disposals (10 kicks / 3 handballs)
7 Intercept Possessions
6 Marks (1 contested)
6 Tackles
1 Clearance
269 Metres Gained
1 Inside 50

Just another day at the coal face for Ryan. After Zorko, Lester was our highest rated defender.

That will be another tick in the lions room of things to do.
They've achieved the ultimate, but the Lions still have three hoodoos to break
Had 3 hoodoos left at the start of the season from those hoodoos Fages put on the whiteboard when he became coach, only one remains:
  • Win against Richmond at the MCG (not done since 2009) - Broken Round 4, 2025
  • Win against Hawthorn at the MCG (not done since 2004) - Broken Round 11, 2025
  • Win against Geelong at Kardinia Park (not done since 2003) - TBC Round 15, 2025

The below were the 4 outs you wanted, for the Hawks game... Enough said
"Out: Answerth, Lohmann, Fort and Payne"
Don’t forget this …
In: Berry, McInerney, Robertson and Doedee

Berry and Robertson both came in, Fagan himself said Oscar and Fort are a coin toss every week at selection and I would like Doedee to get a shot at some stage.

Also, don’t forget, that was posted on Sunday night after the Melbourne loss. Since then it appears Oscar was not fit, which means I would have gone for Fort if I knew. I’ve been calling for him in the seniors every week. He was great today too. Answerth was good today locking down Watson and he still had time for some comedy when he hand balled it into Ashcroft’s back while he was running away from him. After the Melbourne game where Answerth had 6 turnovers from 11 possessions, I was pretty cross. Clearly wiser heads prevailed, but when Starcevich and Coleman are both fit and available, the pressure will really come on to Answerth and he wouldn’t want to repeat the shocker against Melbourne.

Doedee is an interesting one. Perhaps he might not get much of a run at all this year unless there are injuries, but I thought Payne was bad enough against North Melbourne and Melbourne to warrant a rest. He did some nice things today and beat Jack Gunston, but I think he is still our most ‘glazed’ senior player. Looking at the votes he’s getting in the post match poll, you would have thought he had just soundly thrashed Jeremy Cameron or something.

Neither of our boys got a mention here:

HAWTHORN 3.1 5.4 7.8 8.12 (60)
BRISBANE 2.3 9.3 11.5 14.9 (93)

GOALS
Hawthorn
: Macdonald 3, Weddle, Hardwick, Nash, Ginnivan, Moore
Brisbane: Ah Chee 4, Cameron 3, Morris 2, Rayner 2, L. Ashcroft, Bailey, W. Ashcroft

BEST
Hawthorn
: Macdonald, Weddle, Battle, Morrison, Barrass, Worpel
Brisbane: Neale, McCluggage, Ah Chee, W. Ashcroft, Zorko, Cameron

We've literally been robbed at least twice at KP over the journey.

Both involved umpires too gutless to call HTB decisions against the Cats in the closing minute of games.

I desperately want to break that KP "hoodoo"

I disagree wholeheartedly about your critique on Jack Payne

Payne was a rock today.

If "thrashing" Jeremy Cameron is your template, Payne is never going to pass.

Surely you of all people, appreciate that Froggy always plays on Cameron and never fails to hand him his arse on a platter.

Away wuth you!

Of course! You are right luthor. Lester always gets the job of demolishing Cameron, which he does with aplomb.

I thought Payne was solid today, but he wasn’t anywhere near my votes.

For the record, today Payne beat Jack Gunston and had
9 Disposals (6 kicks / 3 handballs)
8 Intercept Possessions
5 Marks (1 contested)
1 Tackle
0 Clearance
55 Metres Gained

I would have had Zorko, Neale, Ah Chee, Berry, McCluggage, Dunkley, L. Ashcroft, Fort, W. Ashcroft, Cameron, Lester and Andrews in front of him for votes.

Zorko just 4 meters short of 1000 meters gained. He did have 11 turnovers though.
It does annoy me that when it gets kicked straight to an opponent it still counts as meters gained. I get that technically you are gaining meters but when it is coming back straight over your head, it’s just not logical.

I had Fort in our best today. He actually gave us first look in the centre clearances and really put in around the ground with no clangers this week that I saw.

Interesting Fagan said the selectors can't separate he and Oscar for selection most weeks which is a subtle change in the narrative that we've ever heard before.
I’ve always said that there really isn’t much between the two. They have different strengths and weaknesses.

To be fair to Jack (Payne), heading into this round Gunston was averaging 3.3 goals/game and hadn't kicked less than 3 goals in each of his last 5 games. He was in pretty red hot form.
