That was a great bump from Eric.
I watched it again on replay when I got home and it looked fine - still don't know what the free to Sicily was for

Kane and Dillon still trying to make the game 'safe' ?
Agree, he threw his head back exactly when he was bumped giving the impression that he had been hit in the head. The simulation was so good that it was only obvious that no contact was made to the head on replay. Umpiring is hard enough, but when players are doing this it becomes almost impossible. Sicily giving away a 50 at the end was gold and almost as enjoyable as Lever doing the jig a few years ago.

As an aside, the Hawthorn sides of the past were skillful, tough and relentless. Teams to hate but admire because they were so good. This current team has some skills but I would leave it at that. To me, it was summed up in Darwin last week, when the "wizard" got a goal and then celebrates to no one in the crowd pointing to the field intimating that this is my ground. No its not and he looked like a tool. This week, when the heat was on, Noah made him do a disappearing act. Mitchell is a good coach but he needs to get this crap our their game, not encourage it. So glad Fagan is our coach.

To be fair to Jack (Payne), heading into this round Gunston was averaging 3.3 goals/game and hadn't kicked less than 3 goals in each of his last 5 games. He was in pretty red hot form.
Jack as awesome beating him back to the goals to cut off his over the back goals, and he also took a few very important contested marks. Both him and Noah stepped up from relatively poor games last week.

They've achieved the ultimate, but the Lions still have three hoodoos to break
Had 3 hoodoos left at the start of the season from those hoodoos Fages put on the whiteboard when he became coach, only one remains:
  • Win against Richmond at the MCG (not done since 2009) - Broken Round 4, 2025
  • Win against Hawthorn at the MCG (not done since 2004) - Broken Round 11, 2025
  • Win against Geelong at Kardinia Park (not done since 2003) - TBC Round 15, 2025
It may not be on that hoodoo list, but I"d like to add :
* Win against Collingwood at the MCG - Round 21, 2025

Assuming we finish in the 8 and play finals this year, that would be just about the best home and away season to add winning against Geelong at Kotton On Park and Collingwood at the MCG.

How good is it being a VIC based Lions supporter right now the way we are playing at the MCG and our southern fortress at Docklands!

For one moment I thought 3KZ said fisting.
Woman on our Masters AFL team broke her hand doing that...

She was in the ruck after all, you dirty scum.

Reminder to Vic lions supporters to follow up the email we got from the club late Feb re getting a ticket to the Lions area we have for the Geelong game. Great journey on the train. Get on board!

I think that immediately puts to bed any concern we aren’t up for it this year. We possibly don’t turn up like that today without the 2 weeks before so those games now have cost us minimally and we’ll get a lot more out of beating Hawthorn than North or Melbourne. Toys back in the cot everyone.

To Hawks supporters booing the hand that feeds all night, chins up. The entitlement permeating that club, constant playing for frees as a strategy and ‘let them be themselves’ mantra with that set of personalities is a recipe for poor culture. Incredibly unlikeable, starting with the coach and captain. I’m convinced Bailey sought out the 2nd head-high purely because of the opponent.

I still think our forward structure isn't quite right.

Would replace dizzy with Oscar or Gallop. Kiddy in for Dev and could play as the sub
Think the forward line are doing pretty good. Dizzy needs a few more games to find his place but so far he’s been good. Looking forward to Day’s return because I dont think Hippy in the ruck is the right choice.

I hope the afl clips Eric's bump and its played to all players entering the afl as "how to perform a clean legal bump"
It was a fine example of the action and the free kick given from an umpire 40m is an excellent example why some calls should be over ruled ffs the umpire that was meters away didn't even raise his whistle.

Agree 💯 there were some epic tantrums in last week’s review thread

We’ve beaten 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th-placed teams and only lost to the 1st-placed team plying away during a horror stretch of cyclones, interrupted training, heatwaves

And speaking of Collingwood, they are as old as ****s and will likely fade the longer the season goes whereas we have plenty of upside between now and finals to help us build:

  • internal development (Ashcrofts, Morris, Fletch)
  • players returning from injury (Oscar, Starc, Day)
  • players yet to find form after injury (Lohmann, Coleman)

6 points clear in second place…if this is as bad as things get this season then we’re going OK

And don't get me started on their supporters and those black pointed hats. As embarrassing as wearing a Kentucky Fried Chicken tub on your head at the cricket.

I think Dunstall sees what most of us see, but there is something about Lester’s desperation and skill when the ball is on the deck that makes particular appeal to those of us who received our footy socialisation in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

For the record, today Lester had
13 Disposals (10 kicks / 3 handballs)
7 Intercept Possessions
6 Marks (1 contested)
6 Tackles
1 Clearance
269 Metres Gained
1 Inside 50

Just another day at the coal face for Ryan. After Zorko, Lester was our highest rated defender.
No doubt he's been terrific over the last cpl of seasons. My question is, is he doing anything that Doedee doesn't do when fit? I'm not angling for Lester to be replaced or anything like that. Is there anything you can see Doedee doing better than Lester? Is Doedee a bit quicker for example?

Of course! You are right luthor. Lester always gets the job of demolishing Cameron, which he does with aplomb.

I thought Payne was solid today, but he wasn’t anywhere near my votes.

For the record, today Payne beat Jack Gunston and had
9 Disposals (6 kicks / 3 handballs)
8 Intercept Possessions
5 Marks (1 contested)
1 Tackle
0 Clearance
55 Metres Gained
0 Inside 50

I would have had Zorko, Neale, Ah Chee, Berry, McCluggage, Dunkley, L. Ashcroft, Fort, W. Ashcroft, Cameron, Lester and Andrews in front of him for votes.
Dead set Payne must have run over your cat or dog, or done something to you. He is your whipping boy and you even criticised him (such as last year), when you did not even watch the game or replay). I don't think Lester' spot is in danger, but you seem to think constantly bagging Payne will somehow support Lester.

Payne plays as our deepest lockdown defender, and is never going to get the stats, those backs that play further up the ground, accumulate. Payne effectively limits the opportunities for the opposition when looking for their KPF target, I would think that is a key part of his role. He will be up against arguably the two best KPF over the next couple of weeks.

Go and have a look at the AFL website, and see how good Payne's stats are regarding 1 v1 as a KPD. Those stats support why he is frequently getting coaches votes.

And they were actually behind when he did that too. So stupid

Any idea what Mitchell meant in his press conference about Brisbane being very good at "taking pressure off themselves"?
Everything Mitch says about the opposition is a subtle unexpected jab to the kidneys.

The way we wax it around for 5 minutes when we have a comfortable lead isn't much good for Hawthorn with the way they want to play so he wants all the other teams to be on to us. To him it's unfair.

Mitch hates losing .

I too don't think Lester's spot is in danger, is a premiership player and doing a good role, but Weddle ran away from him yesterday whilst bouncing the ball at least three times down the wing and almost scored a goal.
