I will never understand why home team's persist with playing audio of tacky growls and squawks over the PA each time they kick a goal.

As a Melbourne based fan, we very rarely get the 'home game' experience but instead see how other clubs go about it.

Hearing and singing Country Roads around the G saw us absolutely take over the joint. I'm sure it had an impact on the players and the momentum of the game.

Perhaps we've just been lucky to have someone like Charles play for us and give us plenty of practice to learn the lyrics.

My favourite memory of Fages is when we were on the bottom of the ladder losing every week and we finally won a game ,I think it was at Marvel, and when the siren sounded this tiny guy charged onto the ground taking frantic little steps like one of those donkeys tied to a string you used to get in the Weeties packet ( I'm sure most will have no idea what I'm talking about ) , arms raised in the air embracing everyone in sight with this unbridled joy on his face.

I thought then well at least we know he really really cares.
I remember elephants that went down an incline

I also don’t mind Hipwood in his second ruck role
I think we're asking too much of him. His natural role requires such a high work rate, and he is clearly spent after going into the ruck on top of his substantive role. We're in a tough position while Day is out, but I think we might have to just ask Dizzy to break even and compete in the ruck.

No doubt he's been terrific over the last cpl of seasons. My question is, is he doing anything that Doedee doesn't do when fit? I'm not angling for Lester to be replaced or anything like that. Is there anything you can see Doedee doing better than Lester? Is Doedee a bit quicker for example?

What Doedee does which Lester doesn't is he zones off to intercept mark and help out the key backs. Lester locks down on usually a weak forward but we see so often when Andrews or Payne are struggling on a strong key forward he doesn't get across to help out

I think we wanted Doedee because when Andrews has to lock down on Sam Darcy for example, then Doedee can drop off and intercept

He's arguably a better kick as well

At least we only had to endure it 8 times .

Unfortunately Country Roads didn't come through on the broadcast. Glad to hear that it audible to the players!

If that was at the Gabba, the singing may not have stopped for a after the first to third goals...

3KZ is Football if Lester got these stats against cameron or for that matter Gunston yesterday, and held him to no goals you would be saying he was best on. Come on mate.

You are an astute footy watcher - you can admit that his influence was much more than what is below in stats.

…..For the record, today Payne beat Jack Gunston and had
9 Disposals (6 kicks / 3 handballs)
8 Intercept Possessions
5 Marks (1 contested)
1 Tackle
0 Clearance
55 Metres Gained
0 Inside 50

Agree 💯 there were some epic tantrums in last week’s review thread

We’ve beaten 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th-placed teams and only lost to the 1st-placed team plying away during a horror stretch of cyclones, interrupted training, heatwaves

And speaking of Collingwood, they are as old as ****s and will likely fade the longer the season goes whereas we have plenty of upside between now and finals to help us build:

  • internal development (Ashcrofts, Morris, Fletch)
  • players returning from injury (Oscar, Starc, Day)
  • players yet to find form after injury (Lohmann, Coleman)

6 points clear in second place…if this is as bad as things get this season then we’re going OK
Epic is being kind, Hysteria at it's finest last week, Ashcroft's don't work hard enough Fort and Answerth should never play again, That's our season DONE, just to name a few. It really was embarrassing. Of course very quiet on here this week.
UP THE MIGHTY LIONS.

Lester has years of synergy training with this group. His judgement of when to stay and when to go is sublime. That forward run in the gf, wow.

Even if they are exactly the same lester will perform better at this point in time.

Doedee obviously needs time to develop that synergy, but swapping them will cost us in the short term.

How short we don't know, but it's a massive risk in a premiership contending year.

Experience says lester would cope with being dropped but i won't.

Dizzy was in the ruck at least once last night. That's as far as my memory stretches.

They've achieved the ultimate, but the Lions still have three hoodoos to break
Had 3 hoodoos left at the start of the season from those hoodoos Fages put on the whiteboard when he became coach, only one remains:
  • Win against Richmond at the MCG (not done since 2009) - Broken Round 4, 2025
  • Win against Hawthorn at the MCG (not done since 2004) - Broken Round 11, 2025
  • Win against Geelong at Kardinia Park (not done since 2003) - TBC Round 15, 2025

Let's be honest, we beat them in 2021/2022.
No free kick for holding my arse.

Ruck Contests - (Hit outs)

Fort 67 - (28)
Hippy 13 - (1)
Dunkley 4 - (0)
Morris 3 - (0)
Gardiner 2 - (0)

That was a great bump from Eric.
I watched it again on replay when I got home and it looked fine - still don't know what the free to Sicily was for

Kane and Dillon still trying to make the game 'safe' ?
It was the perfect shirt front. Umpires got confused because they’re just not used to seeing it anymore.

The dilemma with Lester is that once it’s confirmed that Doedee is ready to be in the best 22, he is the most likely to be the one that is replaced. I can’t see anyone else in our back 6 that Doedee could replace and then you need to include Starc & Kiddy and regulars sooner rather thn later as well.
Histroy tells you that when our coach’s recruit a mature player such as Doedee, they do follow through with the plan. When Tom is percieved as ready to play, he will be coming in.

A few were calling for Noah to be dropped after one below average game against the Dees. Just love his 'junkyard dog' attitude and he completely eliminated his direct opponent.
Our defense yesterday were all epic. When they gell like that, all of them look good. That said, Noah couldn’t do anything wrong yesterday. He was great.

Looked like a head clash I thought
Before even seeing the replay, I didn’t think there was any head clash. The close umpire didn’t think so. For some reason the umpire 30m away from the ball thought he needed to intervene. Perhaps the close umpire should have communicated “no head” or something to justify his non call in the moment.

Maybe that’s what umpires need to do better, justify their certain non calls.

Also it baffles me how players are allowed to encourage, pretend there is head high contact.

Payne was fantastic yesterday, and has been very solid all year. My knock has been that for such a big player, when in front, he has emphasised the contact made to his back instead of using his frame to hold position.

That knock aside, we are extremely fortunate that he has developed into the player he has, especially given the unexpected retirement of Marcus Adams. That hole would have been difficult to fill via trade or free agency (see salary paid to Ben McKay for example).
