I’d say Maric is under the pump. He’s poor one on one and his supposed ace - his kicking - can be pretty average at times.

Not sure if he’s playing out of position, or whether a spell in the WAFL would help (given they’re gonna be short on listed players i.e. bigger losses i.e. not much development).

But Bazzo had a bad day so maybe that saves Maric for the time being??

Looked like he moved up to the wing in the the last quarter and Hough to the back lines.

Maric has a lot to clean up but he has created a bit of drive back there but the mistakes are costly. A bit to learning on the job but there are only so many chances.

Back to back 5 goal hauls against us by small forwards. No real lockdown small back with Hough in the middle.

Gross situation is the epitome of mismanagement.

Starts like a house on fire, dropped, sub vest, sub vest, played out of position.

Think Mini is doing a great job generally but I'm disappointed that we've managed to ruin the kid's confidence after such a promising start. Hope he tears it up at WAFL level for the next month or so.

Both had cracking WAFL games early, should've got a debut when firing, now Both look half disinterested and stale.

Grego certainly looks to be going through the motions the last couple of WAFL games I’ve watched bits and pieces of.

Contrast that to the game he played against Subiaco under lights at MRP a month or so ago where he was BOG for us but didn’t get a senior call up (Kelly did and he was no where near as good that night).

Negative: I played Gross on field in fantasy and he repaid my faith with a whopping 5 points.

Don't feel bad, did the exact same thing and it wasn't forced either. Legit thought he would score with a full game but he was trash today and deserved to be subbed.

He's struggled with the adjustment to AFL midfield apparently, they shifted him forward a few weeks ago as a way to try and find him more minutes in the 1s

think it might be more of a fitness/body thing than a confidence issue

Positive:

• Brockman continues to grow into the role in the midfield, is our best ball user and best decision maker
• Hewett finding more of the ball in the midfield
• Harley's defensive efforts in the last month

Negatives:

• Waterman's injury
• Allen's inability to be a competent forward
• Our I50 entries
• Maric as a rebounding defender has not worked and he is a liability back there
• Ginbey has had the worst 6 weeks of his career.
• Harry Edwards just isn't going to make it
• Ryan made a lot of mistakes that cost us
• Gross needs to be dropped now, which is gonna destroy his confidence

So you can't really expect to be a rookie, who's a third rounder at that, have a couple of good ressies game and stroll straight into the ones.

If he is looking disinterested now, not even halfway through his 1st season, perhaps that is an attitude problem with the player. Not the coaching/match selection. Maybe a little entitled even.

We have been spoiled as of late with guys like Ried, Naicos, Ashcroft who do come in and are AFL ready from game one. But they are most certainly not the norm far from it. They are also the very best of their cohort, not dime in a dozen middle of the pack selections

Seriously, even in a rebuild, these lower end picks really need a massive block in the WAFL to get hardened and up to AFL speed. They need to be dominating for weeks.

It's all well and good to yell "play the kids". We did today and got slaughtered in 15minutes of play. 14 scoring shots.
We did against Carlton and got obliterated.

A combination of softness,poor skills, no ability to take the game on by run... From the three of them.

We just suck at actually basic stuff like kicking and running... Young and old players alike... Look at someone like Murphy Reid... Comes into the game accomplished at running and kicking well.
Meanwhile we have Kelly and Hutchinson who butcher the ball at every opportunity.

Give Gross a mulligan as he should be played in the guts... Get Hewett out to half forward or something.

Just a piss poor performance.. train wreck

Why do we have so many players that can't kick?

Ginbey and Maric need to swap roles. Ginbey to do the kick out, to maric who then either does the one/two with Ginbey or he nails a kick further up the ground. Also keeps Maric more up the ground.

Ideally, I'd want Maric just a loose player floating and not responsible for a fwd at all but we just don't have the quality down there for that to happen.

It's not so much flaws, it's just his fitness to run out a game. He's not there yet so Mini has him trying to play a roll up forward to get in the team. The issue is he's never practiced that role and done it for literally 1qtr at WAFL.

Frankly i'd rather he just be playing WAFL fully and finding the ability to run out a game that way. We don't need to rush him into the 1's through some other role. Same with Allan actually, he's not ready for AFL yet.

Surprised people are calling for Ginbey to play the Maric role.

Ginbey's kicking is incredibly concerning - I wouldn't be entrusting him with kick ins. I do like his dash, especially when he can get those run and gun handball chains going... but in terms of kicking, I think he's pretty much limited to safer, long kicks down the line

Interesting to see Maric moved out of the backline at the end of the game (in the 4th quarter). I wonder if that hints at an end to his backline role. He's been just okay to this point. He no doubt has clean footskills but his decision making can be questionable, his defensive craft is poor and he seems to lack intensity/physicality

Interesting to see what the rest of the year brings for him

In what world could Ginbey be described as soft, is probably the toughest campaigner on the list.

This is the main concern for me

The aerial defensive smarts will come but he looks pretty timid in ground ball situations. Needs to be dropped to work on that in the wafl imo
