I don’t really get this logic. Which teams are safe to debut players against? Do we not consider Simpson because he’s still too new?

If Davies is ready, and I’ve been saying he should have replaced Draper a couple of weeks ago, then he’s ready regardless of who we play.

If we decide to go smaller for more run and speed, fine. It’s not a bad idea. But if we’re changing our whole structure and game plan because we’re scared of Collingwood, then we may as well give them the points now.
Why? It's trivially simple.

A) Pies at their best bring insane pressure and big bodies. There will be heated ground ball contests in our D50 and plenty of opportunities for a debutante to get exposed for being off the pace.
B) They have extremely limited tall forward options

Pick a team where at least one of A or B isn't true of which there are probably 10+ options.

Draper wasn’t that bad, but he looks like he doesn’t believe he belongs.

Would love him to carry himself like he thinks he is the best player on the park.

I think he will be one of those players that takes 2-3 years in the main team to really show what he’s got. Also needs a few more kgs.

Walter’s was abysmal until q4 offensively, but the coaches value pressure very highly and that will mean they won’t touch him.

He’s sort of in that situation Daniel Rich was in at Brisbane instead in his last season. Coach won’t touch him, he’s gone through the tough times and earned his dues, but he’s just not at the level anymore and the oppo are taking advantage of it. Love the bloke, would love to see him transition to a coach from the bench role for the rest of the year.

Mentoring the young forwards is where he still has great value.

Out - Draper 100%, Frederick
In - Wagner, Simpson

Feel Walters and Emmet should come under intense scrutiny, but probably won’t. Emmet wasn’t noticeably bad. Probably one of his better games this year actually but he’s still pretty poor.

Emmett is the first to go for me. I know his pressure is supposed to be good, but if you look at all the stats it’s about the same as Sonny. But on the flip side Sonny’s score involvements are the best of any of our small forwards and Emmetts are the worst. In 5 of his 10 games this year he hasn’t even had a shot on goal let alone got one. FFS he is supposed to be a forward but he has had 9 shots on goal in 10 games!!

Then why don’t they try Erasmus in Emmett’s role?
At least that option he could rotate with another mid, not Fyfe.

But that’s all an argument for going small for more run. That would be a game plan decision.

I don’t agree with the idea that you can’t debut someone against Collingwood. Who’s to say Davies would get any more exposed than a 5 gamer like Worner or a guy who’s been delisted twice like Wagner. Could easily make the argument a debutante would bring more attack and pressure, even if they are a KPP.

I actually would drop Draper in favour of Wagner. But I’m not putting a line through Davies just because Collingwood are good.

So many players made multiple simple errors and failed to execute basic skills. Johnno, Amiss, JOM, Vossy, Banners, Fyfe, Sonny, Drapes. But generally most of those were ok. Sonny, and possibly Drapes, the only ones concerning me.

Walters, Freddy and Vossy out. Darcy in. Don't know who else, bit of a pain without Peel playing. Might mean Sonny keeps his spot.

No, I don't care about the run, I care about exposing someone and it costing us when we don't need the tall coverage. Of course there is a chance Wagner/Worner bottle it, but at least they (especially Wagner) have years in the system and AFL experience to ready themselves.

And it's not that Collingwood are good, its that they are high pressure and small forward of centre.

I'd personally just leave Draper in anyway but everyone is after him it seems.

It was only about a month ago the weather folk were saying it's definitely not going to rain..

** literally 100mm falls in a few hours **

And then got back to saying it hasn't rained at all for so long.

So a week is a long time in meteorology

Cox is back after the bye from all reports. I’d either keep Draper until then, or put Chapman in Draper’s role and bring Wagner in.

Emmett, Walters, JOM (actively bad for 3/4 of the game), Draper all out.

Don't care who comes in just anyone. Until we move on from the first three not going to improve consistently.

Draper needs a spell. You could keep him until Cox is back though.
JOM played on Hill and kept him basically ineffectual and also had about 11 score involvements and kicked the 2 sealing goals.

In: Darcy and Simpson
Out: Voss (good depth though) and Freddy

Jlo will give the sub vest to Simpson.

Emmet and Walters just keep their spots. Draper given another go..but if they were to go with Davies or Worner I’m ok with that.

I don't know how much longer we can keep wheeling out the Weekend at Bernies corpse that used to be Michael Walters.

If we're going to play a man down might as well use that spot to let Simpson run around and get used to the pace of AFL.
