5. Braun - he annoys me more than any other Eagles "midfielder" but I thought he was our best today. It's not just about accumulating possessions. Hard work, important tackles, game-turning chase, important goal, stayed on his player and got 20 himself
4. Embley - tried hard all day and although he made the odd blue, kicked 3 goals, tried to hurt Nathan Brown when tackling him as he kicked a goal, was there when it mattered in the last, if only he'd kicked that one on the run in the 4th - we wouldn't have got close without his hard work.
3. Chick - if he could actually stay on the field for the duration, he'd get my votes every week. Does more hard stuff than the rest combined, 8 tackles and several excellent shepherds. Calm, composed and disciplined under pressure, so he hits those targets.
2. Gardiner - the big man got 32 to 21 hitouts against Darcy, is a target at CHF, is our only reliable tall marking target from kick-outs. At this rate he'll be shot by the time finals come around - no wonder he's too tired to kick at the end of the game. HELP HIM OUT!
1. Matera - 5 goals and forward 50 defensive pressure that we missed last week

It's a protest. I refuse to give any votes to Cousins, Kerr, Judd or Fletcher because of their refusal/inability to man up when required (you can talk about game plan all you like - it's up to the players to man up as soon as the other team gets a run-on, which is defined as 2 goals on the run). I couldn't name a defender who had a good day, let alone beat his opponent.

I was very close to giving Cousins votes, because he did a lot of good things and Fletcher also. Jako presented well too.

In fairness, the other side were excellent today and we were not rewarded for our tackling by the umpires.

Like VoR I refuse to give votes to Cousins, Fletcher, Kerr, and Judd. They were one of the main reasons why we didn't win the game. It's all well and good for them to get those disposals, but they all showed a loss on the ledger by the end of the game. At some points they made skill errors, at many points they were unaccountable, and sometimes they were just plain soft.

What was with the lack of leading out of the forward line? The midfielders had no options to go to so just kept bombing it into the square.

KJ has come back to haunt us.

And one of very few Eagles who actually RAN into/through the half-forward zone, which was a bit of a Bermuda triangle for our attack.

Interesting. If I was voting this season, I would've easily given Cuz 5 today. I thought he was great, and not only in his trademark stylish play, but in the way he was doing the tough stuff too. The spoiling, the smothers, the shepparding and so on. I saw someone say they weren't impressed with his disposal, but that was actually one area i thought was improved. I've been tough on his kicking for a few years now, and noted the improvement this afternoon. Funny how we see things differently.

I remember a few weeks ago praising the backline as I gave my votes. That will not be happening this week...

5. Embley. Despite a few complete ****-ups.
4. Matera. Five goals can't be sneezed at in a game like that.
3. Cousins. Ran all day, and always provided an option.
2. Gardiner. Not a bad performance without backup.
1. Braun. Tried his heart out all day.

I would like to give an extra 0.5 to Sampi for that mark & goal.

votes round 11

5. Braun - especially for the certain goal he saved when the ball came into the Bulldogs half forward line where Brauny was opposed to two Dogs - he bumped one off the ball and then beat the other for possession and cleared the ball.

4. Cousins - another trademanrk Skipper's game, was always there when a lift in intensity was needed

3. Matera - we would have beaten the Bombers last week if Matera was playing.

2. Embley - another outstanding effort from Andrew

1. Chicky - for all the 1%ers he does. No-one in the team chases, bumps and tackles like Chicky.

I am not one to single out players, but I was very disappointed with Duncan Kerr - and have been a few times this year. Maybe he is getting the second year blues a year late??

5) Embley
4) Braun
3) Gardiner
2) Matera
1) Sampi - surely his goal is worthy of a vote!

Like VoR I have decided not to award any of our main midfielders votes as they were not accountable!

5 - Andrew Embley
4 - Phil Matera
3 - Ben Cousins
2 - Michael Gardiner
1 - David Wirrpunda

Michael Braun, Chris Judd, Chad Fletcher, Glen Jakovich, Daniel Chick and Daniel Kerr could've got votes.

A lot of people did some very good things, but a lot of people did some very poor things.
