Might be an injury that won't get any worse from playing. Mick Malthouse used to say it's better to have a level 100 player going at 80% then a level 80 player going at 100%

I agree. Also think teams are doing that to McStay on the defensive rebound end as ell. Goddard on McStay for example knowing McStay doesn't exactly have a name as a two way worker.
