AReid named onfield with JWilliams on the extended bench - melters, go!
The aforementioned AReid is the coach’s love child. He doesn’t have to do much to get a game and can’t kick a goal for love nor money.
JWilliams not a love child irrespective of what he does. Selection continues to lack integrity, there are favourites and non favourites. The right team could make a pretty good player out of JWill.

If JWilliams can't make the final squad with Waterman and his brother out he needs to seek a career somewhere else.

I do think the writing has been on the wall for Jack since he was overlooked in R1. Has had to fight for every opportunity he’s got, and has been dropped for not doing too much wrong at times.

In contrast, McQualter today said flat out that they are trying to find ways to get Shanahan into the team.

The clubs own actions/decisions tell us everything we need to know without saying anything at all.

Shanahan and AReid are the future.

Don't really get the negativity around Archer. Rarely gets beaten/outmarked in contests, is extremely nimble and competitive for his size when the ball hits the deck. His knock is he is not accurate but surely this is the perfect year for him to work on that on the big stage...not like we are pushing for anything other than avoiding a spoon.

At 204cm gotta give opportunity to develop, could become a very good marking forward though kicking needs work , experience will help .

I think Mini gave a bit in his presser that it’s Jobes competitiveness to not be beaten at both ends of the ground is what they value in him.

Shanahan coming this week won’t necessarily be the marking of Jacks cards. But it might indicate why we are fast tracking both Archer and Jobe and Jack is having to fight it out at the minute.

Also, little tidbit I heard- Jobe LOVES it over here. Isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

So what if the club and therefore Mini see more potential in Archer or Jobe than JWill? Maybe we will try to ship him?

Extended squads so not the full story, but this is far younger and less experienced than even Richmond went in last week missing all of their veterans at once (who have all instantly returned to the side now available).

Mini already assembling his own credits crew.

This is a bullshit take. You’re not the only one that holds this view. The others who hold it are bullshit too.

We’re in a rebuild. The whole point is to identify the players who are going to be the key cogs for the next push in 3-5 years and prioritise get games into them.

Clearly AReid is one, Shanahan probsbly another.

Prioritising means by its definition that at times we are going to be selecting them ahead of others, unfortunately JW has been the victim at times this year, and may be again this weekend (though it’s not certainty).

We need to be using this time to develop the players who will help us win finals in the future…. If you look at it that way, I’d much rather be getting games into Reid and Shanahan than Williams.

Sam Mitchell -who everybody frothed over - did the same thing at Hawthorn.

“It was about investing in the development of our players through 66 games and investing in the implementation of the game style that could win finals when our time came.”
In effect, the 68 games was treated as a development period that would set the club up for the long term.“

I imagine we'll get sliced and diced whoever is in or out.
Interested to see how Allan, Gross, Long, Shanahan, Davis and Dewar go - depending on who plays.

Think Williams is the best like for like replacement for his cousin at backup ruck. It’s also not a great game to debut Shanahan in, the weather’s not looking flash and Geelong will destroy us in the middle so the cupboard could be a little bare for key forwards. Shades of Brander debuting at the SCG.

I’d do Allan for Cole and make Cole the held-over emergency, give him a break after he copped a cork late last week and also avoid a younger kid missing out on footy for the weekend.

That leaves two spots for Gross, Davis and Dewar, I don’t really mind which pair they end up going with tbh.
