The Meek spoil was judged by the umpire as being against the rules. He awarded a free kick and 50 meter penalty.

So, Meek infringed upon Lipinski and caused him to be concussed. I reckon that warrants a suspension.

He was ‘making him earn it’ clearly. Meek got lucky they generally don’t like players ending up with concussion.

I don't agree that the concussion thing is decisive for the reasons that others gave. Some legitimate football acts can cause concussion.

But I think the different is Maynard had a real shot at smothering the ball. Meek knew he was never going to make it and was just going for the hit. Neither one was heinous, but I don't think we want what Meek did - making him earn it when there's no serious effort to play the ball - to exist in the game. The idea that you flatten someone just for fun is over. I think Meek was basically committed to doing that, where Maynard wasn't.

But anyway it's line ball and life goes on.

Maynard tried to spoil a ball that was in flight. Meek tried to spoil a ball that had already been marked.

One thing I loved was when Bobby and Ginni were niggling each other, another Hawthorne player joined in and Ned just bumped him away as if he was a fly.

Agreed but the bump I mentioned was at the end of a quarter, not sure which one, as they were leaving the field.
