The Tigers hit the road again this week as we venture up to Sydney to take on the Giants in a Twilight clash in which they will be looking to solidify their position in the top 8, while the Tigers will be once again looking to play a competitive brand of footy as we reach the half way mark in the first real year of our rebuild under Yze.

Unfortunately the Tigers will be missing young gun Sam Lalor who succumbed to a hamstring injury against Essendon, while Thomson Dow is also likely to miss due to a dislocated patella in the same game. On the flip side we should get some reinforcements with Nankervis Lynch Prestia & possibly Lefau all chances of returning to the line up, while Tyler Sonsie has thrust himself into the mix after strong back to back performances in the VFL. Depending on how many changes we want to make we could even see Judson Clarke make his return to the senior side after 3 weeks at VFL level.

IMO the changes should be

Out: Lalor (inj) Dow(inj) Faull Trainor (both omit)
In: Lynch Prestia Nankervis Sonsie

B: Broad Miller Gray
HB: Brown Vlastuin Banks
C: Ross Prestia Ralphsmith
HF: Campbell Mansell Sonsie
F: Sims Lynch Rioli
R: Nankervis Taranto Hopper
INT: Ryan McAuliffe McIntosh Smith
SUB: Green

With the above line up, I believe we have a much better balance in terms of our ability to cover the ground with just toe 2 KPP at each end Gray & Miller KPD, Lynch & Sims KPF with 2 dedicated rucks in Nankervis & Ryan. Ryan playing takes some of the pressure off Nankervis who is carrying a knee issue, while also allowing Sims to stay up forward and provide support to Lynch.

In the midfield we change up the mix by adding the likes of Prestia into the starting mix, move Ross onto the wing where he played well in the 2nd half replacing Dow, we can move McIntosh out of the starting set up and can instead use him as a rotation for the wings and put more development time into McAuliffe and also Sonsie as part of the midfield mix.

As far as the result goes the Giants who comfortably beat Carlton in Melbourne should prove too strong for us on their home deck and all things being equal probably have a 5-7 goal margin at the end of the game. As per the rest of the season, the focus for us isn't necessarily on the 4 points at the end of the game, but it's more about the long term development of the younger players. With the bye a couple of weeks away giving the likes of Faull & Trainor a 'break' by sending them back to the VFL for the next couple of weeks and let them enjoy a bit of footy and recharge the batteries before a big 2nd half of the year where opportunities may come around again.

we need as many interstate sides in the top 4 as possible cos the umpires are going to try and gift colonwood a flag again

Surely we won’t play all of Taranto, Hopper, Ross, McIntosh, and Prestia in the midfield.

Now that Prestia’s back, I’d like Taranto to play forward permanently. We’ve seen enough to know that he’s just too slow for a permanent midfield role. I know he came to us wanting to play midfield, but he’s so much better as a forward. Can get to the right places, win contests, and kick goals. GWS knew this and played him there. We should do the same.

Our pace in the midfield is literally the worst thing about our team right now followed closely by our inability to take marks inside 50. Taranto moving from the midfield and into the forward line would improve both things IMO

It is NSW Gru. You don't ever contemplate going to that place while sober. And if you are drunk you no longer care what you pay for drinks.
Last time someone representing Richmond went drinking in nsw it didn’t end well
