Even they required a specialist goal kicking coach in 2017 to help them kick straight.
Who was the specialist goal kicking coach back in 2017 and what is he doing now ?
After he retired didn't Mark Lecras have similar role at Fremantle.
If the soft salary cap is preventing us from appointing someone, I am sure Woosha could find some deadwood amongst the hangers on at the club to axe to make way for a part time kicking coach.

you mean when we had Kennedy, LeCras, Darling, and Rioli?
When you have a look at their career goalkicking averages per game you can see the decline in output over the years.
Sumich 3.4
Kennedy 2.5
Lecras & Phil Matera 2.0
Darling 1.7
Liam Ryan 1.3

yeah, but that is avg goal not avg goals & behinds, so doesn't really tell us anything about accuracy. The decline in total goals per game is due to the way footy is played in modern day and in particular defensive structures.

No chance is Suma kicking 500 goals in 150 games in modern footy.

In his career, JK kicked the following on avg:

2.7 goals per game
1.3 behinds per game

His accuracy for career would have been ~67%

Suma was

3.4 goals per game
2.4 behinds per game

His accuracy for career would have been ~60%

OFC this doesn't break down to set shots, vs crumbing etc.

Does it matter what the media says?

It doesn't. It matters what actually gets done. I can't recall the media saying WC got a steal or played hardball though.

Freo played a part in pushing his price up, as they were below us on the ladder, so we couldn't threaten PSD. Again, I don't think the 'narrative' matters one iota when it comes to trad price, however we'd failed to get him out the year before, so I understand the commitment to bring him in when he was OOC, even if the price was too much.

Kelly wasn't going to Freo. In any case if he goes to the PSD Geelong get nothing for an asset and WC or Freo get an asset for free. If he doesn't end up at WC then WC aren't worse off, not like we have to pay a deposit.

Initially we'd have only traded 14 for Baker and kept 3 but Hawthorn screwed us over when they traded it away.

We're not valuing Baker and Owies as pick 9, Owies was pretty much an afterthought.

2022: traded pick 3 for picks 9 and 14
2024: traded pick 3 for pick 14, Baker and Owies

So where did we value Baker? I don't attribute any value to Owies, I believe he would've been a DFA eventually. Because Carlton.

I'm not concerned about Hawthorn. We should be able to get a trade done with Richmond for a player of the calibre of Baker without the need for a third party.

Apaprently, our original target at #14 would've been Shanahan, which is why we kept trying to trade back into the draft but he fell in our lap anyway.

A bit of luck, sure, but I'll take it.

Apparently. But it's the same argument as before. You don't plan for someone you want at 14 to be available at 30 before you go to the draft. With live trading I'm sure we could've got pick 30 on draft night if we really wanted it.

How could we go to the draft with 'multiple' first round picks? You can't force players out the door in the AFL.

By splitting pick 3. The value of that pick is multiple firsts, should we choose to trade it.

What 'value' would we have got if we kept pick 3? An unknown quantity, that's what.

Could be anyone, maybe Chris Judd. Or Jared Brennan.

Building a list is done over multiple seasons, not one as our friends at Richmond seem to believe.

I'm not concerned about Richmond. They loaded up last year and most likely some will hit and some will miss. They still suck and have two early picks this year so will load up again, and probably next year too. They still have a lot of important experienced players to turn over in coming years.

We've been at the bottom since 2022. Looking at some of the top 5 players from 2018-2021 it's a bit of a concern Harley Reid is the only top 5 pick on our list. I really like Hewett but what ceilings do Ginbey and Allan have? We don't have a lot on our list from drafts in our contending years so are in pretty desperate need of elite talent.

Also if Harley does opt to leave, I don't think the club will 'help' him to where he wants to go. Not sure why you'd think that to be the case.

When was the last time we played hardball on anything? Harley Reid to a top side should just be off the table, end of. I don't care if Geelong or Collingwood or whoever offer us 3 firsts. 3 x pick 20+ is garbage,

I'm nervous we will trade him this year if he wants to go let alone what we might do next year when he's OOC. I hope he stays though.

Suma used to have some big days out

That 11.8 v Essendon at the MCG one off the top of my head, could've been even more epic

Oh to beat the Dons at the G by 75 with our FF kicking 11 🤪
13 versus the Dogs at the W.A.C.A.

that's the same across the comp mate, Sumich played in a different era where FFs regularly kicked bags

odd that you want to blame Mini for a trend that started while he was still a player

So Mini's been in on it since the beginning? Noted!

I can only imagine how many Kennedy would have kicked if he'd been regularly one-out in the forward line through his career. He'd have been in the 1000 club.

Pagans Paddock killed that off forever.

He doesn't live in Carlisle HJ's mate, that's not his house and the paper crown he wears doesn't make him king.

huh? there was an older bloke out the front that told me he was simmo and i gave him multiple 50s, he looked a bit disheveled but i figured that was because he lost his coaching gig

111.89 for Suma in 1991.

Could have shattered records that would never be matched.

But first left footer to boot 100 in a year, that's something.

Excellent record in finals too.
His career seemed to go down hill with the advent of his so called team mate Jason Ball Bag competing with him in the forward line. Suma must have been out of favour with Malthouse as he let it happen.

His career ended when Danny southern choked the life out of him at subi. He was never the same player after that. The 94 finals series he struggled to get a kick

Dunstall in 1992 says hi. 145.84.

Also Ablett at his peak (93-95) was on another level.
124.60, 129.79, 122.85
