When GWS went fwd they kicked to an almost empty fwd 50, when it was our turn we kicked to a packed fwd 50, other teams have worked us out. We must find another plan or have a very disappointing final series

Well, you miss that many goals you lose. We need to start hitting the goal face a little more, we go so wide when entering the forward 50, that is part of the reason we miss so many shots. I think Charlie needs a fortnight off, go away with the family, freshen up mentally for the back half of the season. Give Shagga a run in Geelong, was concerned about Charlie pulling out in the first 2 minutes of the games in the goal square. Not a good sign.

It is time to put Levi in the 2s. He should be looked at as Lachie Neale's long term replacement, playing in the VFL on the ball working on his craft will be more beneficial in the long run for our club. He doesn't offer a lot on the wing, doesn't have the weapons a winger needs to have.

In the short term we need a little rejuvenation and enthusiasm, this is what Reville and Brain brought to the team at stages last year.

It is a long season, we were the stronger team last week and this week. Just didn't get the chocolates, all good signs for when the season proper starts in September.

Scoring shots from snap and hope are not as valuable as kicks from uncontested marks 30 metre out directly in front
Yep agree with your point but we lost by 11pts not 8 goals. We didn't need to convert every single one of those 9 extra scoring shots.

I think most people who agree about the woeful goalkicking are frustrated because they're seeing a pattern that's gone on for years now.

Again focusing on a problem in one area is not denying a problem in another area

11 behinds came from Ah Chee, Bailey, McCluggage, Berry and Ashcroft. Berry had a fairly simple set shot but the rest have difficult shots. Maybe we could’ve kicked 1 or 2 more of them but definitely not shots you’d expect to kick more often than not
Charlie had a very kickable set shot in the last

I maintain that improved goalkicking wins us the game in spite of our other deficiencies

I mean sure, but if we lay a couple of critical tackles, beat Hogan and Cadman in 1 or 2 more contests, beat them working back defensively 1 or 2 more times so they don’t get easy out the back goals, give them 1 or 2 less unpressured clearances and that might be the difference

Goal kicking woes have been our weakness this year by far. It just feeds into other elements of our game. Imagine being the bloke busting your nut winning a hard ball spreading and delivering a pass inside 50 to a leading Charlie. Just for him to miss it. Do that 10 times a game and it would be hard to keep your head held high. It also gives opposition a sniff and gets their tail up when they snag a goal against the game. AFL is half a mental game.

Gardiner would've wrestled with Cadman by engaging his body early and there would be no jumping or sitting on defenders heads etc.

Eric tried to go for marks which is what Cadman was doing to him so that didn't help

I probably wouldn't have him in our votes but will call out Eric. Key back isn't his game but kudos for being the guy to sacrifice himself for the team by going back. He's tried ruck and now back this year and think that's worthy of recognition.

Not enough others will sacrifice themselves like he has over the last year
Eric has been moved around too much this year i agree he has done whatever is asked of him.

Maybe I had too many beers at the pub, but I thought the decision to move hipwood down back was not a good one.

I feel we should have figured out matchups with the available backmen, not continue to sacrifice our forward structure

That's the worst game I've seen Charlie play across the important facets of the game.

I'm not concerned whether we drop him whatever , what I'm wondering is whether this is what his capacity is now. It's been a while since he's instilled any confidence that he's a gun any more. If that's the case he needs to put in the effort in the parts of the game where younger players would be trying to excel.

In fact we strategically managed to play Hipwood out of form this year.

Putting him in the ruck was obviously never going to work 5 minutes after we tried it ,and throwing him in the backline he has no idea really but as usual tried his best.

Leave him in the role that we know he can play effectively enough and see if he can get his confidence and timing back.

Fages mentioned in the presser that anyone who plays VFL tomorrow will only have a 5 day break before the Cats game

Would hope Dizzy doesn't play but anyone else who does likely won't be considered for senior selection. Even Oscar

I have not seen the presser, so not sure of the context and inflection of his answer, but my uneducated knee jerk response would be that that's very narrow view. How about be a bit more strategic and manage their time on ground a bit better. Develop a plan to ensure fitness and readiness for a call up to the seniors?

Maybe that's what would happen?
