Hunt and Kelly are now the perfect candidates for the sub.

Both older more experienced players who have younger players in front of them but can still come in and play good footy when everyone’s cooked.

Enough of this pointless shite, subbing in Bo with 5 minutes left is ****ed.

I think we'll learn a lot about Mini's approach in the coming weeks.

How does he continue to use the sub? As a graveyard for kids, or a rotation for senior players who don't do much anyway?

Will he bring Owies straight back in, or give a chance to somebody like Champion?

I fear the answers to the above are going to be conservative.

OUT: Kelly, flynn, brockman, duggan, cripps
In: hall, b williams, allan, chesser, long

I think we try something different a. reid as main ruck and b. williams as ruck forward. Clay hall comes in as sub. Chesser goes to the wing one last chance to prove himself.

I don't know why people are big on brockman too small to play midfield and not talented enough to play forward. I'd have long ahead of him.

Dewer can play in his natural position as a forward instead of cripps and allan plays at half back.

straight swap for long and cripps to show that the credits in the bank crew isn't a thing anymore whoever plays on cripps gets like 30 possies and 900 metre's gained.

Brockman is one of the biggest positives of the season for me.

Probably alongside Hewett and Ginbey.

It's incredibly frustrating that they moved Shanahan down back in the WAFL as he's an obvious straight swap for Archer and we need to get him some exposure at senior level.

Archer never earned a recall and hasn't done much since being back. Mini needs to put his love for the dude aside for a moment

Time to reward Clay Hall's form

OUT: AReid, Hutch
IN: BWilliams, Hall

Bo Allan to get a full game ffs.

Tim Kelly sub.

Yeah i see it differently i see an inbetweener a guy that isn't big enough to play midfield and a guy that isn't nimble enough to play small forward. I'm happy to be proven wrong though. I agree with you on hewett and ginbey to some degree but i think ginbey has potential to go through the midfield but because our key position back stocks are so bad he isn't being tried in that position because he has to pinch hit as a 3rd tall in defence.

Always shits me how coaches use the sub like it's just a spot for the last picked player (which is usually a kid) instead of putting a touch more thought into it and picking a senior player who is good enough to adjust to what is potentially a hot game and have an impact.

Someone like Cole or TK I think is a good sub option. Petch even.

Of course, in this scenario you would actually have to activate them a bit earlier than 4 minutes to go in the last quarter.

Hopefully they bin it next year anyway and it becomes a non-issue.

He played junior footy as a high half forward or wing.
Fair enough. I think he'd be more effective as a half forward than as wing. Just my opinion. I don't think it's fair to throw a player all over the ground as a young player. I think he was playing half back or even back pocket for this latest match. He hasn't set the world on fire on wing this season either. Give him a chance at half forward.

Ginbey just isn't a midfielder.
He just couldn't find the ball.

He's settled in really nicely down back.
Would be crazy to move him IMO.

i get why people want to drop hutch.
but man, he is very much a nearly player atm.

but also his rise to fame has been quick. from ammos to vfl in 24, and 18 months later he is here. 20 games into an AFL career. I just feel like he is one of those guys who once he hits 40-50 games he will be a great asset to the team. For that reason, I'm persisting.

But also wont be mad if the team want him to go back to WAFL for a few weeks to get some confidence and work on some stuff. But I want him back in the AFL sooner than later.

Guys like Hunt are the one's I think we need to be phasing out.

Bo just needs to play. I would personally play him at AFL level.

Also think Hall should come in.

Bo starts in lieu of Hunt
Bwill for Flynn
Arch out for Hall. I think we can go smaller against blues backline and like idea of another midfield rotation. Reid needs to get some confidence in WAFL.
Hunt sub

I don't care if it throws the team balance out and we lose to a god awful team like North...... Oh wait.....

Clay Hall DESERVES to be in this team. Make it happen McFlog, and that doesn't mean substitute for 3 minutes either.

OUT: Kelly, Reid, Hutchinson
IN: Hall, Billiams, McCarthy

Hunt sub.

If we don't give Bo Allan a full game at either level at this point we may as well just fold. Imagine spending a first rounder on that bloke and being halfway through his first season and being happy with the development he's had in a rebuilding last placed team.

  • Miss round 1 because sick
  • Plays B2B WAFL games and looks good, 22 and 23 disposals spending some time in the midfield :thumbsupemoji:
  • sick again, misses.
  • plays average in the WAFL, 12 disposals
  • Gets an AFL game vs Demons (based on previous WAFL form)... has 7 disposals and gets suspended
  • Doesn't play again for 3 weeks
  • Plays WAFL game, average again, 15 disposals
  • Randomly back to the AFL as sub vs Geelong, comes on late in the game, gets 4 disposals
  • AFL again the following week, subsitute again, this time comes on with 5 mins to go and doesn't touch the ball.

So far the first half of his season for Allan has yielded 7 games in total.

4 WAFL games - 2 good ones, 2 poor one's.
3 AFL games - 2 of them as the subsitute

I hope we get some games into kids in the 2nd half of the year. See what we've got.

Got absolutely nothing to lose now and not expected to win anything.

Give HJ games, kid gets involved. He was getting belted in the WAFL but was always in there and getting to good spots.

Get Hall in.

Play Allan, Grego, Shanahan, Malakai etc

Give them all minimum 4 straight games in a row to see how they go

Oh Yeo will fix everything 🙄

Ginbey’s preferred position is being that tall in defence who can rebound and have grunt off the lines. That’s where he played footy for East Perth in his draft year and excelled in it. Since going back to defence last year when Jarrod Schofield came in to coach he’s played much better footy. Would be odd to send him back through the midfield after all the work we’ve put into him down back over the off season tbh

If Yeo had played from round 1 and been consistently on the park, how different our fortunes may have been? But yes, pigs might fly.
Losing Waterman obviously hasn't helped either.
So we are where we are and it is what it is.

Meanwhile, this 10 minute sub business with Mini is frustrating. It's as though he sees Allan (and Hall) as a liability not an asset, only to be used if absolutely necessary.
I could be wrong but as I understand it, a sub is a substitute, not a rotation, nor an emergency, to replace a poor performance player or a tired/injured player. Once a player comes off for a sub, he doesn't go back on again. So it's an important call which can affect the game. A sub is also named in the side to get them some game time experience or as a reward for Wafl form. In this case, ideally a sub should get at least a full quarter to get game experience and keep match fitness. Mini seems to have a different concept of a sub's role, bearing in mind Mini has stated repeatedly that it's always team first, before any player.

In the process, Allan is now 2 weeks (?) without match time and Hall has been pressing for 2 weeks with no result. Get them both in for Carlton. Not ideal for Allan, but hasn't travelled and has training. Hall needs to play for reward and to signal other players in the Wafl that they will be rewarded.
I wouldn't expect much from Allan or Hall, but a solid game is a good start.

so he hast showed much. give him time to develop and don't pretend he is Judd

if they were better that those in the 22 they would have replaced them, The reality is that no listed player has dominated in the WAFL so they fall way short of being effective in the AFL. McCarthey is the exception of a small sample.
