Autopsy Round 14, 2025: Positives and Negatives vs Carlton

Honking first quarter ends any chance of this being a contest. Some signs, some huge blows. Bye long overdue.


Positives

• Did well to rip back the clearance battle.
• McCarthy 31, Harley 28, Dewar 27 and tidied it up as the game went on. Hewett is sick. Ginbey is sick. Allan showed some glimpses in extended minutes.
• Harry Edwards growing big time.
• Bailey Williams. Lol. Ok mate.
• Hall got stuck in in the fourth.
• Baker leading our B+F by so far it’s not funny.

Negatives

• First quarter touch up. Enough said, Mini put it succinctly at the break.
• Injury to Allen is genuinely gutting. HEdwards sore too by the looks.
  • Part b: Most on here would agree that it’s best that he leaves if the price is getting Pick 2, but some of you should hang your head. Captain might have done his ACL, and there’s 20 posts all going “there goes Pick 2 lol”. Have a look at yourself. Lots of the same people who go on about how the AFL is too woke to do a men’s mental health round and it’s all a big anti bloke conspiracy, then your captain may have ripped his knee again and it’s straight to the “this is bad for our draft hand”. Gross.
• We’ve only got one game style so if the ball is soap and we can’t pick it up, we might as well not be out there. It’ll build but **** me what an insipid first term.

Badly need the bye.

First five to six weeks were going backwards to go forwards in a big way. Next few weeks we actually built some chains of possession and a game style. Month after that we started winning and/or being right in games through the fourth term.

Need to find another step forward post bye. Over to you, boys.

Reid a game high 17 contested disposals and 2 contested marks (take notes Nick) and an equal team high 5 clearances (he also got robbed of an additional one for some reason).
Hewett an equal team high 7 tackles.
Ginbey a game high 10 intercept possessions.
Dewar a game high 843 metres gained.
These are the things we should be celebrating from out younger players.

Also, Duggan's 2nd half wasn't horrible after being a liability in the first half, so kudos to him for that.

Positives:
There were actually a lot of good players for the Eagles today. Ginny will become the best half back in the league. Bo Allan looked super athletic. McCarthy didn't make a mistake. Dewar did butcher it a bit but also really finished the game strong. Hewett lifts when the eagles need him to and I don't think Reid actually played as well as the stats sheet suggested, he butchered it a bit as well uncharacteristically but still got a lot of it. Hall looked like a legitimate AFL player when he came on and should play full minutes in a fortnight.

negatives:
Probably Flynn and the eagles overusing and cooking some handpasses

POSITIVES

• Tom McCarthy. 31 disposals on debut at 93% efficiency. We got a good one here.
• Tyrell Dewar. Solid game. Massive 843 metres gained today from 27 possies . Surely Rising Star nomination this week.
• Harry Edwards. That's about as good a game you'll ever see for a bloke with 2 possies.
• Reuben Ginbey. Cameron, Larkey, Curnow...... Giant killer.
• The sub! Clay Hall got a bit over a quater and racked up 9 possies and a goal assist. Hope he gets another crack.
• BBBW Has really turned his goal kicking around, good to see him get a mini bag.
• Second half. Yes injuries helped but we still looked a lot better and didn't roll over and show our bellies.
• Bash brothers Harley & Hewey. Each week they make the game enjoyable.

NEGATIVES

• First half was a trainwreck. Missed tackles, fumbles, poor disposal, falling over..... you name it.
• Hands in the back. Did they change the rules this week or were the umpries ****ing blind?
