  • My kids first live game.
  • Tom McCarthy first game (brilliant)
  • Reuben Ginbey owned Curnow
  • Harry Edwards game before injury
  • Harley 2nd half in particular
  • Baker being Baker
  • BWilliams very dangerous up forward
  • Dewar on the wing is a smooth mover
THE GOOD

  • Matt Flynn getting destroyed in the Ruck...Totally out worked live and TDK looked too strong which is disappointing
  • Oscar Injury
  • HEedwards injury
  • Getting our arse kicked
  • We need a better system in the forward half
  • Kids first live game, we get our arses kicked.
  • Umpiring (I don't normally complain about this but it felt like an away game...No noise of affirmation tonight)
  • Jayden Hunt played like a campaigner
THE BAD

I truly hope Oscar is ok, but either at or not at WCE I don't think he'll ever be what he could have been pre injuries. His knees are just about cooked and it's hard to see him coming back and ever being a 50 goal forward again. It really is sad, he's so young but his body is just falling to pieces.

Yeah there is no shame in hoping we can get a trade done

Had a sneaky suspision we were due one of those howlers, and a wet game just before the bye had me worried it might be it. It definitely seemed that way in the first quarter, probably the worst we have played since the first month of the season. What's really pleasing is that we didn't roll over, we dug in and won the second half keeping them to just 2 goals after half time. It's these little wins in game that prove we have definitely turned a corner and are starting our upward trend in the rebuild.

+ves

  • Tom McCarthy take a bow. He looked like a seasoned veteran out there and his disposal with a wet footy was sumblime. His run and carry off half back is exactly what we have been searching for. Not only that but he seemed to take the right option everytime. Think we have found one here!
  • Once again our best players were the kids. More evidence that the rebuild has turned a corner. Hewey and Harely again showing a glimpse of an exciting one two punch in the future.
  • Liking what Ginbey and Hedwards are providing down back. Theres some good growth there.
  • Dewar with a solid second half
  • While it was heavily criticised for what we paid for Baker, theres no doubt he's holding up his end of the bargain. Exactly what was advertised. Graham has been solid aswell.
  • B. Williams is showing some really good forward craft which has me pleasently surprised.

-ve

  • That first quarter was shocking. Probably the first real wet weather game we've played I'm pretty sure, and it definitely showed. It seemed like the players had one eye towards the break. Given Mini's qtr time interview, I reckon he gave them a good spray and it seemed to work.
  • forward 50 entry shocking again, so many wasted opportunities
  • Really feel for Oscar Allen, he's having a year to forget. Let's hope he's ok.
  • a few of the seniors. Mainly Kelly, Hunt, Duggo have been disappointing. I get the feeling Hunt will be dropped post bye.

Overall, I'm happy we didn't roll over when it had 100 point belting written all over it. There was enough positives out of that, so I'll take it. I'm looking forward to the bye as much as the players at this point though!

+ was looking grim at QTR time. Managed to turn a potential+100pt loss into a respectable 6goal loss.

- after the bye will be rough (Coll/Freo/Giants/Crows/Bulldogs all to come). No sign of returns of Yeo, McGov, Waterman and now Allen. Edwards received shoulder treatment and I saw Reid feeling his hammy in the last, may just be cramp however as he looked to run out fine.

-just too often our guys get sucked in to the contest. If you are going to leave your man to be the second in, you better be 100% sure you either win or negate the contest, otherwise that player you left starts the uncontested chain of waltzing down the ground to goal

NGL I'm pretty flat after that game. 5 years of trash, with only the slightest glimmer of signs shown this year.
Loss after loss after loss. Unless a miracle happens after the bye, I'm going to be pretty checked out.

Been really completive for long periods in games, just cough up to many goals in a 15 to 20 minute period at some stage

Mature players letting us down in general aside from the 2 Richmond recruits
Yes a bad calf can be very debilitating as can remember when I did mine I felt like I had been shot in the calf area although I did end up having shin splints as well which didn’t help matters. Was out of action for some time. So hopefully it’s his calf and not his Archilles as that’s what wrecked Nic Nat’s career.

I hope he has a quick recovery. They said the same thing about Nick Riewoldt I think around 2009 that his knee was cooked but he was very meticulous and dedicated to his rehab and played for another 8 or so years. I think Oscar can do the same. Gotta wait and see to when the scans confirm what exactly is the issue though.

Positives:
McCarthy is outstanding. He looks a ready made top 10 at a club player and is ready to go for years to come. Also suits the gameplan perfectly.
Dewar's second half truly shows his talent level and ceiling. 27 disposals and 837m gained.

Negatives:
Poor Oscar, no matter which way you dissect or cut it, it's really sad for him and I just don't think his body will hold up.
As much as Hall got plenty of the ball when he came on his defensive intent and defensive output was non existent. It's much more worrying to me than his skill level
There are lots of others but too sad about Oscar.

Just on McCarthy - how is it possible for him to be that good?

Dude was playing ammos a few years ago, no? Insane that he has been able to either have that much natural talent but not be identified in any system or be able to build skills like that outside of an AFL program.
Confidence is can a go a long way. He isn’t a kid and has been dominating for in the 2’s for a bit. Carry this kinda form in the second half and he’ll be the biggest thing to come out of this season for us
