Pending vfl game today something like:

Out: cockatoo scooter (both inj) lonergan/kolo stanley (both omitted)

In: hawkins blicavs ruggles cunico

Would drop parsons if we had a small fwd to replace him with.

The quintessential 'hiding to nothing' game.

Anything less than a comfortable win will be seen by many here as a complete farce.

And if we actually lose, the melts will be well beyond epic.

There's three clear changes already and potentially a couple more, given Thursday's 'performance'.

And the question of Joel probably getting the smackdown from the MRP that wouldn't be countenanced for any other team/player in the competition.

Mackie Lonergan Bews
Tuohy Henderson Stewart
Motlop Duncan Guthrie
Menzel Taylor Murdoch
Parsons Hawkins Black
Smith JSel Dangerfield
Blitz Lang Menegoia Cunico

In: Hawkins Blitz Black Cunico
Out: Scoot Cockatoo Stanley Kolo

Toma and Blitz back in are straightforward, particularly with Scooter out of the team.

I would like to see Black given another opportunity. If they get the ball to him, I think he could be quite useful. Not tearing it up in the twos but they're hardly making it easy for the forward players to star in that team at the moment. If Buzza goes well again against the Tiges, perhaps it's his chance instead this time.

Cunico wasn't given long enough in the seniors the first time whereas Kolo has had more than long enough to show that he really needs to go back and find some touch and confidence with the Bankers.

Parsons could easily come out as well but nobody else is banging down the door and it's surely too early for Narkle or Jones.

There are plenty of others who would be under some pressure if the VFL team had some stand-out performers. As it is, they retain their place in the AFL side simply by virtue of having no better replacement available at this point.

The Hyphen is next in if Joel cops a whack on Monday and Ruggless could be considered despite the fact I think Jed is performing quite well in most games right now.

Four changes seems enough to me and hopefully the team can find some form to carry into the upcoming interstate trips.

And I am fully prepared to accept that it will be time for a week off from here if we don't get up next Sunday.

For the snags.

Mackie Lonergan Ruggles
Tuohy Henderson Stewart
Motlop Duncan Guthrie
Menzel Taylor Murdoch
Bews Hawkins Stanley
Smith JSel Dangerfield
Blitz Lang Menegola Parsons

In: Hawkins Blitz Ruggles
Out: Scoot Cockatoo Kolo

Plenty will argue with Ruggles back but it's the only way I could find a small forward in Bews.
Stanley gives us some flexibility forward/ruck and the option of Harry going back if things turn to s**t.
Blitz full time tag/run with player in this one.

Joel will get rubbed out because of the media discussions. Ruggles will take Kolo's spot and GHS takes Joel's. Hawkins and Blitz for Stanley and SSelwood is no brainer. Either Cucino or Black to take up Cockys

Any word on the severity of S.Selwood's hamstring injury?

from yesterday:

Geelong coach Chris Scott said post-game on Thursday both injuries were not believed to be serious.
“We’re pretty confident they’re minor,” Scott said.
“They’re certainly not bad hamstrings that we’re worried about losing guys for a long period of time but with those minor ones it’s real difficult to assess in the short-term. Suffice to say, we don’t think it will be more than a couple of weeks, a few weeks.”

We'll lose this. got a real bad feeling about this one.
I'm the opposite

We will smash them, haven't been as confident about us in ages

How do you omit stanley after 3 goals and 20 hitouts in a side that had the ball rarely in the forward line?

Pretty easily - yes he kicked 3 goals, but he was almost invisible around the ground. At times he needed to go hard & make a contest he would allow an Eagles opponent an easy run at the ball.

How many times last year did Kersten kick multiple goals in a match but people still said he was useless and wanted him dropped?

Unless Blicavs is injured or misses again through soreness, then Stanley would be seriously considered as an out. Not sure a forward line of Hawkins, Taylor & Stanley works - and the way that Hawkins & Taylor have started to work very well together over the last month, they deserve to continue to build on that forward pairing. Blicavs provides more around the ground than Stanley does, and with Scooter likely to miss a week or two, he will come in to play a negating role when not relieving Smith in the ruck.

When you've got an anti-Stanley bent.

Because he's not an ex steeplechaser?

Yet still managed to find the pill more then Blicavs averaged in our three losses this year, and kick more goals and have more hit outs then Blicavs has in any game this year.

It's not as simple as Stanley vs Blicavs, but what provides the best combination for the team.

Look at our last 3 matches where we actually looked cohesive and played a really strong brand of football.
- Smith's time on ground was 86%, 86% & 84%; agains the Eagles it was 80%. So our best ruckman for the year spent less time on ground than he has over our past 3 weeks; now surely that would have had an impact on things because we have looked so much better with Smith as our dominate ruck, especially in the middle of ground.

If playing Stanley in the team means that Smith is getting less time of ground, getting to less ruck contests (especially centre bounces) where he was averaging 2 centre clearances a match over our previous 3 games, then I question if Stanley's inclusion beneficial for the team in overall balance.

With Hawkins back at FF & Taylor as his forward partner what impact will Stanley have playing as a 3rd forward? The one match this year where we did trial Hawkins & Stanley up forward was the Essendon match and Stanley's figures for that match were 10 disposals, 1 behind & 15 hitouts - so yes he kicked 3 goals against the Eagles, but in his previous 4 matches this year he had kicked a total of 3 behinds.

Can Stanley have enough of an impact playing as a genuine #2 ruck or does his role as the #2 require him to push Smith out of his best position & the best position for them team where Smith is spending less time in the ruck just so Stanley has the chance at having an impact on the game?

I don't see how if we have Hawkins & Smith available for selection to play their preferred position that we can then fit Stanley into the side also without compromising the role/s of others within the team. That is a key reason why I'd have Stanley back in the VFL next week
