So Kai's back now. Can we get Charlie back too before the end of the season?

I few weeks ago i commented that Charlie seemed to be struggling with the balance been defence and attack. Last night he got that balance right and was great.

Getting those snaps would be the icing but he was relentless.

His pressure was constant and led to two goals. And for lot of the game, every time the ball was near him he has two opposition on him which have others opportunities.

It's not often that you get someone who can win a game for us who is totally committed to the team to the point of handing off goals.

Cameron’s pass to Logan in the third was beautiful. He shaped to kick it to Rayner, sent the Geelong defender that way and then picked out Logan in the goal square. No wonder Charlie was celebrating as soon as it came off his boot. Charlie Cameron is a smart, smart, smart footballer. He is what they call, A NATURAL.

Does anyone know who the short guy not in a game day kit next to Harris was in the circle for the song?
I think I read somewhere he is off overseas to compete in some sort of sports event .
Can’t recall the name or sport though .
You might need to go searching .

So good to see such an even contribution across the team - it's really hard to pick a player who was down (I could do with Zorko not turning the pill over so much), and it highlighted how good we are when we spread the load.

Our best is sublime footy... I said a while back it was better than Voss's team when it's done well and last night did nothing to change my mind. The speed at which we transition and the footskills when we are humming are beautiful to watch.

Rayner, who has been my whipping boy - looks good forward. It suits his work rate and his personality. He has to stay there.
Fletcher could play anywhere he want's if you ask me but geez he's good down back.
Dunkley - I just have no words. Week in week out this man just gives everything he has. Our most consistent player, but with everyone else contributing you get to see a bit more of him oddly... so so good.
Bez, another that's been maligned but does he work. Tirelessly. It's the 1%'s and it's rare you see him ever give up. Huge team player.
Noz and Motty - those 2 boys shut down, hassle and scrag all night. Noz is just super focused and Motty gives you that bit of dare than we all love... such a good balance.
Hippy and Day - I don't think our game style this year favours big forwards - and fair enough too. But they are crucial to structure and creating space and opportunities. If one goes down you see the result instantly.

You could go on and on... Clug and Harry and the Ash's etc all get enough praise from elsewhere... I'm just glad on a night like last night people notice our other players - our workhorses and the guys who help others look good.

I do wonder if Neale is carrying something though... his output has been down for a little while now. Clug has been getting the tag at times too so it seems a little odd...

Our best footy is awesome, if we can get to Preliminary Final week with the vast majority of our best side in good physical shape we should fear no team... even an in form Magpies.

We really do have a side that has the capability to win another flag or 2 over the next few years.

Although the last side I thought that about was the 2021 Demons, only great sides can do it.

Last night everything we did paid off and they were down ,lacklustre and couldn't hit the side of a barn.

It was a great win but we needed it.

We need to bring that sort of intensity regularly to win another one.

You're right Geelong were down... but do you not put at least some of the hesitation and second guessing down to our "pressure"?

And I use pressure loosely in the sense it wasn't all out tackle pressure as such but once we had intercepted a stack of ball early in the game, Geelong second guessed a lot of things and went away from their game style. Their forwards played high and they panicked.

They usually do to others what we did to them. At least some of the reason they were down was because of what we were doing surely?

i gave jarrod berry a vote.

i think hes flying under the radar a bit. the defensive run and effort hes putting in has been terrific this year. disposal pretty good too.
Yes lot of love for the RolsRoyces but I thought the tractors, Berry and Dunkley set us up for the win. Tireless ploughing up and down that dugheap. Occasionally ugly, but always digging in. Oh and that stick figure scarecrow at CHB who mesmerised the cats offence.

Good night for Fages as well. I wonder how many Premierships the cats would have won if he’d been coaching them for the last eight years?

Harris Andrews needs to never wear those white boots again

an eyesore

I don't care if he had his best match of the season, get rid of them

In Fagan we trust.

My hand is up, I suggested this week McLaughlin should replace Lohman, as it turned out Ah Chee was sick and both played. Fagan had called Lohman on last Sunday and said he was playing this week and, lets call it a master stroke, that confidence in the lad fired him into gear and, it's only 1 game, but Lohman is back. Well done Fagan, that is just so you.

Across the board, all players were good to great and turned up for each other. Grand final type play but still with room to improve.

We got the Ferrari out of the low gears last night and my god it looked good on the open highway, now for a week's rest and we can take it for another spin into the second half of the season.

Still a side to be reckoned with when we show up and play to our potential. Unfortunately our efforts this year seem to come and go. Big games like last night, gets the players up and about. The lesser games we seem completely flat.

Fagan's main job this year is motivation for the games we are just expected to win. Port is such a game next. If our performances this year and previous years are anything to go by we will just do enough to get over the line or lose.

Be nice to see us go out in a couple weeks and dominate like we did last night and put Port to the sword and win by 8+ goals.

So good to see Starcevich back in the side. Just a rock behind the ball and teams are scared to kick quickly and long because they know him and Harris just intercept all the time.

Rayner and Fletcher awesome last night. Morris just a delight to watch with every game he banks. 10 goals in 2 games and love watching him marking the ball at the highest point.

Fort really worked hard last night and will enjoy a week off. Still think Oscar is no 1 choice but it helps to keep him fresh for later in the season.

Charlie is a big worry. Devoid of confidence. I thought the Hawks game might have seen him turn the corner but not so much. Think he is very lucky to still be in the side.

What an experience being at the game live last night. Atmosphere awesome in the lions end behind the goals. What i took out of the game last night was how Brisbane were not rushed or just blazed away with disposal. We just held onto the ball just that little longer to make better decisions by hand and foot that cut geelong up so many times.

Yeah elements of the media went SUPER EARLY counting us out.
Here we are after Rd.15 last year before we went on to win the PREMIERSHIP.

… and here we are after Rd.15 this year.

Now I understand that many in the media are not that bright, but I’d say we are better placed this year and more likely at this stage to win another flag than we were this time last year.

Headlines should be reading something like … BRISBANE LOOM AS MAJOR PREMIERSHIP THREAT!

They looked a bit off from the start tbh. I don't think they're all that good but what they do do well is hang in there and play smart disciplined footy when the pressure's on.

We always had the ascendency and their disposal and decision making was never up to speed.

It's becoming more and more a mental game. We seem to be able to lift our work rate and intensity for important away games and be half asleep in home games that we should be winning.

Like us they expected to be winning this game and just weren't prepared for the level of pressure we were able to bring all over the field . That was the most pleasing aspect for us . Our midfield and forwards are able to run 2 ways and bring the heat when they want to and that team buy in is where we nee to be to be winning flags.

Interesting food for thought re our best side.

Harris actually played right on his man and was better for it imo. Would we be better with Starce almost as a third KD? Worked for the hawks last year. We looked so dynamic down back. But then it was slippery. Last week it was all about marks in d50.

Fort seems to clearly be no. 1 ruck now. He has great hands for a big man. He is a one touch player.

Looking at stats clearances dead level after we started on top

Whilst i think we got cleaner clearances what we did was beat the cats at run and ball movement on their home deck. Bloody impressive effort and more impressive then if we’d won how I expected by dominating clearance

We were very daring on putting speed on the ball

That was pure football genius. How he actually changed his kick at the last second was sublime. No wonder he was so excited.

I’m hopeful last night might be the start of what we all hope to see after the bye.

This team usually gets an uptick in form after it and I’m hopeful more than ever this year we might see that again, given the disruptions to start the year which lead to an extended run without a bye, on the back of a shortened pre-season.

We have a bloody tough run home so we will need to be up mentally and physically, but hopefully once we get back into it, the group can see finals on the horizon once again and that hopefully will naturally give them a boost to perform efforts like last night more often than not.

Play like that every week, with that effort and we give ourselves a chance against anyone, anywhere.
