I guess the question is, is Carr just giving Ken what he wants to hear, and keeping a lot of his real ideas to himself??

Carr will play a different game plan to what Ken has given us for 12.6 seasons. It will be more defensive.

Coaches coach the way they showed their personality playing the game. Teams always are reflective of their coach and his personality.

Ken was a flashy flanker, played under Blight's if they kick 20, we will kick 21 philosophy, so he likes us playing flashy exciting footy.

Carr was a hard nut who tagged players and then played off them and would wear a punch to the head if needed for the team. I expect us to play in a manner reflective of his footy personality.
That’s right, surely Carr isn’t showing his full hand now

I think you need a mix of both flare & toughness, but at the moment we lack both.

Seeing the melts on here about Carr is certainly amusing.

Going to be chalk and cheese between Ken and Carr in terms of the differences in how they each will run the footy program.

My issue is that he might need to cut some talented people in order to be effective in changing the locker-room culture.

That was shit in a multitude of ways, but one thing I feel the need to say is...

...Sam Powell-Pepper needs to stop playing like an idiot. He's wonderful in terms of his attack, aggression, bravery, strength... But he's dumb as shit on too many occasions. He needs to look around and understand the situation. Sometimes it feels like he's trying to wipe out our players like he's an undercover spy for the opposition. There was one moment where JHF called for a kick to a spot on the boundary in the forward 50 and it was kicked perfectly for him... Only for SPP to launch in and spoil him and almost injure him.

I appreciate the self-confidence, but know your role.

Bill Belichick's mantra for 6 Superbowl wins was "do your job." We have too many players who try to go outside their jobs or don't know what their job is and it's beyond frustrating.

In 20 years time people will look at the score, not having watched the game and say it was a medium sized loss. We got spanked.

That’s why I write scores like this:

Port 17/7.10:52
Syd 26/9.17:71
Scores / Goals . Behinds : Points

We had 9 scores fewer than them. Still, we just lost by 19 points.

Of course, this doesn’t show that we scored the last three goals of the game. We were down by 37 late in Q4.

I’m happy for him to cut literally anyone.

I’m not sure how much off field talent we actually have but I can’t imagine they’ll ever be poached.

A good locker room culture is more important than anyone.

I fully agree with y’all. I was just pointing out that changes might not happen overnight and without some difficult unpopular decisions.

Agree totally, but I think part of this is our general complete lack of a forward line plan.

The players don't know where to move, don't know where they should be, don't have any situational instructions. Don't make space for eachother except by accident.

So Sam reverts to all he knows which is maniacal attack on the footy.

Belichick's mantra worked for the Patriots because he developed systems that his players understood and fully believed in. Easy to do your job when it's clear and you know it works. I'm not actually sure our forward line has a plan at all, and if it is the players don't understand it.

I've never seen a reasonably skilled team kick more frequently to the advantage of the opposition defenders when entering forward 50. We break through the press and stream into a wide open forward line and kick it to the advantage of the defender, again and again.

This is on SPP just as much as it is on the coaches.

Yes, but there’s more to it than it might seem at the surface. The Patriots had a “Moneyball” approach to the draft, but people don’t usually talk about it.

The Patriots didn’t have top picks (and would even trade down sometimes). So, they didn’t have access to the most talented players.

What they did was looking for smart and versatile players. This allowed them to have a vast and complex playbook in both sides of the ball.

Many players weren’t the best in their positions. Their job wasn’t simple, even though it wasn’t often flashy. Yet, they were able to deliver whatever was required from them.

They also had an “always hungry” culture. Players too satisfied were sent packing. The job was never over. That’s how they kept winning.

Why is it that for the most part when we lose its almost laughable. Very rarely have any honourable losses. Ineptness spreads so quickly thought the whole team like a virus. Then the next week they win it for Kenny.

Weak-mindedness. It flows down from the coach. It truly does.

The fact is we were outplayed by a side that came to play. They applied pressure to our play makers and didn't allow us too many easy possessions. Seven goals in almost perfect conditions tells the story.

On top of that playing two ruckmen may have worked last week against Max Gawn but it sure didn't work this week as Grundy monstered us in the ruck and around the ground.

And the message is...

2025 is over for us with nine games left. With our poor percentage we would need 13 wins to make the finals. That means winning 7 of our last 9 and we have to play 6 games against teams currently in the top 8. Despite this Ken will probably come out and say we have not given up hope of playing in the finals. Sorry, Ken but 2025 is well and truly over and you should do the Club a favour pull stumps early.

Ruck coach is Lobbe. Literally the worst ruckman ever.
Edit. Already posted by MrMeaner
Someone else posted on here that Paddy Ryder is ruck coach at the roosters... I thought he was heavily involved at the bombers, but low and behold, just checked the north adel website and it's a veritable who's who of former pafc players... Sam Mayes, Matthew Broadbent, Josh Francou and obviously Surjan before he got the arse

That is where aspiring coaches should develop. Not as a line coach, "head of development" in the AFL system. The fact that Lobbe holds both positions without formal qualifications (confirmed by Matthew Richardson) and extensive years of experience at lower levels (only Assistant Coach Werribee 2019-2021) shows you what a budget, unprofessional, boys' club we are. The fact that he was a below average ruck just compounds an already terrible appointment.

No AFL in the SANFL something something

Thought Rozee was poor today again

So many fumbles, pointless kicks etc
Agree. Completely stuffed up Liddy's shot on goal and then burnt Liddy later in the game by spraying a shot on goal when a handball to him was the right decision. He tries very hard but even Grundy turned him inside out at one point.
