Would feel better if Banners was sub and Dudley was in instead of Aish but it's not worth melting over. I expect the nuffies on social media to be out in force about it though

I remember feeling that Erasmus wasn't defensively accountable enough in the stoppages. Fyfe being suspended for the game hurt in that regard.

Freo were hugely accurate and Essendon weren't, keeping us in it.
Score was 14.5 to 13.12.
I felt the big mistake in that game last year was Justin Longmuir’s fit of pique when he subbed Erasmus for the running too far incident.
Those are the times a coach has to maintain his composure and not act out of rage.
Raz had been going okay prior to that penalty.

Darcy out is pretty significant and peeps can stick their head in the sand all they want but Darcy is not being "managed"

Kind of staggered Dudley couldnt get back though. Sign a contract extension at your peril at this place and it looks like Banners is back forward and ahead of him...
Unlike most, I agree that it probably indicates something. I just don't think what's being indicated is anything new. The answer to "Is Darcy best 22?" has likely become "Not always". TOG when Jackson and Darcy played together indicated this, so did JL's statements, so did Ryan Daniels and other media figures' reports.

The matchups, conditions, and days between games happen to justify the "managed" call. Marshall, Grundy, Meek and Cameron over the next month. Hard not to view Vigo Visentini as the odd one out there.

But ultimately, at least in his current state, he's become a player whose value to the team depends on the opponent. That doesn't mean it requires urgent action: if the club, Darcy and Jackson are fine with that arrangement, cool. But it's okay to say that that's unusual for a ~700k player.

Maybe we have to wait a few days to see if "managed" necessarily means that Darcy won't be playing WAFL this weekend for Peel Thunder against South Fremantle.

I would think there's also a chance the sub for tomorrow night, if he only plays a quarter, might also front up again for Thunder on the weekend as Erasmus did a month or so ago.

Nope

Aish fills a half back role which Banners was playing due to Simpson being injured

He's been horrible at half forward and Dudley has been better

Its simple

Considering most on here said this would be the best time for Darcy to be managed, I think it’s pretty likely he’s being managed. Injury prone, off a 5 day break, soaking wet, again coming off no preseason/WAFL after his last break. I don’t think there’s a less suspicious time for him to be “managed”
Add in Goldstein isn’t playing. It’s perfectly set up for Darcy to be managed.

This is Dudley’s first season for AFL.
He probably never have had to play a game after a 5 day break. It’s a perfect game to be managed, have another week at Peel then be ripe for St Kilda. That’s all there is to it.

I think Fyfe is going to play a full game. Aish sub as insurance in case with his added flexibility if required

Would of preferred banners stayed in defence to get more experience and has been doing a decent job there

Darcy was certainly fine at training on Tuesday actually looked fresher than a lot of them, didn’t we want Longmuir to not select two rucks if they are not required? Darcy will be back for the game against St Kilda.

I also dont really think Aish is an AFL player anymore so as equally surprised on that one
Red hot form in WAFL earned the selection. I didn’t expect to see him again but he ticks the boxes for selection integrity. Even Brodie was resurrected as an emergency after a really good game.

I also think Aish is finished but playing him in defense over Banfield is fine, Banners aint a defender, hes lucky he got to stay in after being shifted there

The issue now is, why has Banfield gone past Duds as a forward? That aint right

Once he gets in, he takes way too long to go back out, he should be used as a depth plug and play player, Duds is ready to go, Banners is not needed (Unless Duds is sore and we don't know about it yet, definite possibility)

don't mind Aish in as he's in form, fills the half-back role well, and is usually good in the wet. NOD is needed as Jackson will be rucking most of the game. Our pressure was poor against north. These two will help correct that given Mike Wazowski is out. I like the team balance for this week against a young Essendon at home in the wet

Exactly.
7 day break after North, then if he does play on Saturday, it’s another 7-8 days. That’s a bonus.

It’s a long season and this period coming up is crucial. I’d rather him be fresh and not play against a debutant in the rain coming off another game in the wet not even 5 days prior.

Duds did not do a lot of the physical stuff on Tuesday, more hung around Walters for goal kicking practice and signing autographs.
