Reckon there is some agreement, this is his last year, and he will play sub for most of it so he gets a Fairwell game.
Yze mentioned in the Q&A during the week, that part of the selection integrity is ensuring that players like McIntosh are given the same treatment as younger players when it comes to being picked. As I see it, until such time that a younger player is playing better than McIntosh in the role that McIntosh is being asked to play he will continue to get picked. It's up to the younger players to force the veterans out of the side. Now I believe we were about to see it happen with Juddy to replace him in the line up, but then the unfortunate injury occurred and right now there isn't a younger players in good enough form or healthy enough to replace him so he stays in the line up, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. You want younger players earning their spot, not having it handed to them because of their age.

With the position were in, that is the wrong approach IMO.

If a kid is playing close to McIntoshs level they should be in the side ahead of him. Pumping games into a Trezise for example far outweighs the negligible benefit of playing Kmac every week.

Trezise for McIntosh would've been a good start. Blight deserves a game, dont care how.

Or Trezise for McAuliffe and Alger for Green. Something.
Tresize should be in for KMac.

Ross has been saved by McAuliffe and Green by there being no one else. If they aren’t keeping Gray in for Balta then they’re not dropping him for Blight.

I don't disagree with this but given McIntosh has flexibility in where he can play he maintains his spot. It seems like every time we seem to be in a position to bring in a player to replace him, they get hurt or someone else gets hurt and McIntosh gets pushed into their role. IMO McIntosh was likely going to make way this week, but with McAuliffe going out we need him to play as the extra midfield option a role that Trezise can't play, nor can Alger.

No Samson? 🤔

Faull and Green have been down on form and to a lesser extent Sims.

Must reward form in the reserves.
Blight should've been in.
Blight was tried up forward and in the ruck and wasn't up to it so they sent him back to the VFL to play KPD which is clearly the role they want him to play long term. So unless you're planning on dropping either Balta or Miller there isn't a spot for him at the moment.

My reply was based on your assertion that the younger players should be earning their spots not gifted to them.

Ross, Green are being gifted games based on their average performances.

Faull who is going to be a player but at the moment needs to work on his craft in the reserves and fix up his set shots

Balta is a utility can play back or forward and I would push him forward and put Blight to defence.
Faull to the ressies.

Macintosh has been average of late. I'd have tresize in ahead of him.

The match committee are so obvious with their team selections.

We're trying to get a line up that is settled and allows players to play in the roles we want them to play in long term. So shuffling players around just so you can fit someone in defeats that purpose. FWIW I don't necessarily disagree with some of the suggested outs people are making, but I can understand why we're not making them.

No problem with that, but when Mac is playing like crap, surely rules apply the other way.
Someone has to earn his spot, but he's untouchable.
We all know he's not being dropped.
He's being gifted games on the way out as we are like the Aussie cricket selectors (well, up until this week) ... too soft to end a career.
Like Bailey and co., we think every premiership player should have a two or three-year farewell tour.

I hope they give Sonsie (or one of the other younger guys) more of an opportunity in the middle with McAuliffe out.

You can't be rebuilding and run with a midfield of Taranto, Hopper, Prestia and McIntosh.
Yze keeps talking about playing the kids and selection integrity but I wouldn’t bet against that happening.

Blight and Balta played in the same VFL game and Blight played 20x better and Balta got picked ahead of him (and then played poorly). We don't play players on form and we don't invest heavily in youth, we do a secret third thing.

I hear you, so if that's the case, why is Macca playing when he ain't the future? Play Tresize.
The whole purpose of the reserves is to press hard for selection. No position should be granted. Form dictates who plays.

Anyway, Im rapt for Alger, deserved his chance.

Will also look forward to the next month or so for Lalor, Smillie and Hotton to all be in.
