Bazzo has been playing reasonably well over the last month or so as a KPD too, he deserves a go before Shanahan, partly due to age and him having a more mature body, and also because hes OOC at the end of the year and we need to see what he can do.
You're perfectly entitled to your opinion, equine poster, but I disagree 10000% with this. I hope you are wrong, and I'm someone who rates Bazzo.

Why not?
Id have thought they both have similar strengths, but Bazzo is physically more mature and ready for manning an experienced KPF that the Pies have.
I know Bazzo is far from a gorilla but with Brock the other KPD we know is healthy its a risk to bring in Shanahan too as a first year player - theyre both skinny without much muscle/physical development- especially against the top team over in Melbourne lol.
Why subject Shanahan to that in his debut?
Why wait? Why not? Why not give him the zero expectations baptism of fire. Let him learn from the benchmark.

well mini has shown a tendency to back in players he sees big upside with over age. Look at archer over jwill.
Shanahan is playing well enough and seems Mini is fond of him, so I suspect he may get nod.

Opposition and worry about subjecting a player to this or that, wont concern a coach at the highest level. any experience is good.

So the kpf we drafted who was kicking bags of goals in the vfl touted as being very accurate. We have now turned him into a defender after a few weeks playing defense in the wafl. Our key position forward that hasn't kicked a goal in 2 months getting preference over other older forwards is going to play forward again due to allen's injury and the kpf we drafted that can kick goals is going to debut in the backline as a key back?

Bazzo is pretty bad
He’s been incredibly unlucky, not sure he’s that bad either, has put together a reasonably solid block of games since coming back from injury. Deserves a go in the seniors to see if he can step up to the level.

idiotic isn't it.

If anything, Archer should be brought back in as our No.1 ruck (supported by Baz) in place of Flynn - it’s the one area of the ground we need help in, that he’s actually looked really good so far. Just keep him out of the forward line FFS

He looks slow.

He marks well when on his own but he's had bags kicked on him weekly

Dunno can't see it personally, hope he does well though but I'd bring in Shanahan to FF with J Williams CHF

Bazzo is pretty bad
Disagree, I think he has a future at AFL level

Fair enough

Why rush him?
Id honestly be completely fine with Shanahan not playing AFL at all this year, just like Archer in his first year, and like the overwhelming majority of other young talented KPDs in the comp.

Its a lot easier to bring in a teenager in a KPF role than into a KPD role where they are directly responsible for an opposition player.
I agree Mini has backed in certain player, but hes also talked about setting them up for success before bringing them in, like with Allan.
I dont think bringing Shanahan in to play the Pies fits that mantra even remotely, but mini may see it differently.

Irrespective of which way he ends up, where he plays next Saturday is kind of irrelevant to his long term development in itself.
There are benefits, either he gets experience as a KPB or KPF in his natural position, or they invert it and he gets on the job learning from a classy tall in how the trade masters work.

Win/Win IMO.

How about we do this. Recruit guys that we want to play in their preferred position? Then when they get here we play them in their preferred position. For some reason I think that would give them the best opportunity to excel. As for development theirs no better level to develop at than afl. Look at how caddy is going at essendon he got played in his first year and he's doing just fine. It's not like he would be numero uno with J Will and B Will playing in the forward line.

Edit: this is in reference to Jobe.

If we didnt have Archer sitting there, who can only really play forward of the ball at AFL level then id agree.
We (probably) need a KPF and a KPD for Allen and Edwards, the 3 options to replace them are Archer, Shanahan and Bazzo.
I cant see Archer being the one to miss out tbh.

If Edwards is good to go then I can see more of an argument for Shanahan vs Archer as we have BWil to be the 2nd ruck. We could leave Archer to be the main ruck in the WAFL, depends what the club wants from Archer I guess.

You don't think Flynn will be dropped or you don't want Flynn to be dropped?

Too much wishful thinking from people here listing Shanahan as one of their ins I think, hes been playing KPD, and Bazzo is likely first up to get a game in that space anyway.
It's just frustrating seeing Archer come in after playing shite in the wafl. He's down on form and confidence and it'll be the second time he's been dropped to the wafl but bought back because of necessity. At least Shanahan has been playing well of late.

Shanahan - Allen
Johnston - Hunt
Hough - Hutchinson

Do we need to worry about harley coping a week?

If Cole is fit I'd play him ahead of Maric.

TK needs a spell but we have no one banging down the door. Malakai?

The trio of Kelly, Hunt and Hutchinson have been taking the piss a bit for the past 3 weeks now.

Would like to see all of them in the WAFL for one reason or another, but i reckon that's unlikely. As usual.

The bye is going to save a few spots, can only speculate but if the pies game was this weekend they'd be out. 2 weeks is a long time to sit on their sub standard performance and have it forgotten. We'll know come team selection i guess.

INB4 - "We need Kelly's experience against a seasoned outfit like Collingwood"

Outs: Hunt, Kelly, O.Allen (inj)
Ins: Hough, Petch, Shanahan

Likely Archer Reid comes in instead of Shanahan even though his goal drought goes up to 9 weeks now.
+1 for Petch. He has a skill we need - bobbing up for random goals with limited supply. More value in that regard than Kelly, Long or Owies.
