Yeah 100% his experience stood out.

Shanahan at one point did the right thing by forcing him onto his right but he just ran that extra few metres, straightened up and used his left where I pictured less experience guys would rush it on the non preferred.

He's annoyingly good coz it's just like "arrrgh grab him, hes slow!!"
He’s got matrix bullshit going on.

I’m slow but ahaaahahaha now you are slower…..

wtf???

totally unbelievable how we are competing so well, well done to those players you mentioned and coaches for putting the pieces together for us to compete

Was anti going the Baker, Owies and Graham route, but looking at the age profile we ran out with against the Pies and the Allen, Yeo, McGovern injuries, events have proved the list managers right.

Comparing the WC side with Freo's (freo in brackets), 21's and under is WC 8 to 3.

Weekends age profile shows one side in full rebuild mode and the other coming off it.......... who's have thought?

Certainly not the purple moron's who reckon we haven't yet committed to a rebuild and they have a far younger side.

Age of Rd 16 sides

18 yrs olds - 1 (1)
19 - 1 (0)
20 - 4 (0)
21 -2 (2)
22 -3 (4)
23 - 1 (4)
24 - 2 (2)
25 - 1 (2)
26 - 0 (2)
27 - 3 (2)
28 - 2 (1)
29 - 0 (2)
30 - 1 (0)
31, 32 - 0 (0)
33 -1 (0)

Bring on a stacked draft hand this year.... it's turning!

Something to really think about when you look at teams around us

Lets look at last nights midfield rotiation here

Clay Hall - 20
Elijah Hewett - 21
Harley Reid - 20
Brady Hough - 22
Ryan Maric - 20
Jack Hutchinson - 23

And then rotational pieces

Bo Allan - 19
Liam Ryan - 28
Tyler Brockman - 22

Have we ever seen such a young midfield like ever? Even GWS had Ward/McDonald and the like when they first came in...

Richmond for example have Taranto (28), Hopper (28), McIntosh (31), Prestia (32), Ralpsmith (24), Jack Ross (24), Tyler Sonsie (22) and that includes a much better ruck in Nankervis too

I think we are pushing towards the right direction
Shuey, scooter, Ebert, priddis

They were little twigs bar ploddo they used to get brushed aside

great statistics.
The Baker/Graham/Owies trades and our 2024 draft hand is already looking elite in terms of quality.
The addition of Baker and Graham has been outstanding for our build, I hate to think where we would be this year without then in our side.

This is why we just cant draft kids all day long.
The stacked draft hand has been good work by list management and with the addition of OA FA compo, pick 2 we load up on the elite kids and trade in a couple of more experienced heads and bodies to help build this team up the ladder.
Unless WC have a secret move up their sleeve, we are not going to trade in an A grade talent this year so we need some good cheap B grade role players to help with our further draft hand.

Our NGA/FS prospects are not going to be bid on until around late 2nd round at the earliest and most likely 3rd and 4th round picks as of today, so match them with later picks, Walley/Evans/Banfield.
Draft the best with 1, 2(OA) and Hawks 1st, then trade in players using our 2nd round and Hawks 2nd.

If Cameron is off the table, we still need decent depth around our midfield and KPD depth.
Busslinger and Erasmus are the perfect gets with upside for me.

One big positive from this year who I think is flying under the radar a bit is Tyler Brockman.

We always knew he had the talent when he came over from the Hawks, but it was a pretty rough start to his Eagles stint. Off field issues, in and out of the side, seemingly couldn’t buy a goal at AFL level, and then had his season ended early by an ankle injury.

Which is why it’s been so good to see him come into his own as a forward/mid this year and lock his spot in the side. Was our leading goalkicker yesterday and while he doesn’t always rack up huge amounts of the footy, what he does with it is just silk.
Defensively looks really engaged too, laid a great HTB tackle on (I think) Darcy Moore which led to a shot on goal.

Add him to the list of WCE recruits who only hit their straps in their second season. Still only 22 years old, so plenty of natural improvement left in him. Looming as a handy forward line piece as we progress through the rebuild.

totally agree, he is the most likely player to take Cripps spot going forward

If you use stats from this weekend only, then satistically Shanahan is a more impactful forward than Tom Lynch

The sooner we get AReid set up at CHB the better off we will be.Brock has to go!
HEd and Archer could be our defensive pillars going forward.
I dread going into a derby with Brock in defence with Voss and Treacy attacking him at speed.
Disaster!!
Brock makes mistakes, but he’s only played less than 20 games for ****s sake, And he often does really good things which don’t get noticed by people on here it seems. He’s also pretty good by foot coming out of defence which Archer is definitely not. Archer should be trained as a ruck because he’s very good in that position.

Love this completely agree he’s hitting his straps at the right time under a new coach — so much good footy on the horizon for him.

I doubted him after the Richmond game being there live just no good at all but has responded since then and i absolutely love it

Sorry but Brock has done the same thing three times in two games.Guy closes in on him at speed he can only turn left and when the oppo turns with him he just folds .No fight,no pretending he’s trying, just total surrender!
Big men often struggle with goal kicking but can be very good with field kicking. Archer would be unbeatable in the air esp when the emphasis is on spoiling not marking!
Rucking? Maybe; he’s certainly smart enough.
With Gov gone we need another KPD.
Basso appears to be improving but seems to occasionally get towelled up in WAFL. Not a great recommendation.

Way to early with the Brock criticism, he needs time and experience.

Both him and Edwards have played less than a 100 games.

Edwards is really beginning to grow as a player so I have confidence that Brock can as well with time.

Edwards really use to frustrate me but with Gov and Barrass gone, he's been genuinely good, gives me Harris Andrew vibes.

Think back how crap emac was in his first 20 or so games…

I'm not 100% sold on him but you have to remember he's only played 9 games.
Needs to bulk up a bit and play with a bit more aggression, but I think he's done pretty well so far.

Just watched the news - good to see McQualter is gonna go to the AFL for a "please explain" on at least one bullshit umpiring decision from yesterday. Hope he leans on em hard.

Sorry Mini, but on this side of the Nullabor there's a thing called "the noise of affirmation", which is a magical aura that West Coast emits and makes umpires give us free kicks, so the AFL has to mitigate it by actively not paying frees for us. Someone should have told you that before you took the job.

I love Peter Brocks nephew and I'm not ashamed to admit it. The guy is lighting quick and clearly will be an asset to our ball movement in future, he does a lot of running off his man and in a situation where we aren't losing every game so comfortably opponent forwards are going to have to go with him a lot more which is going to gas them out nicely. Still a bit slight of body but he's a smart operator who seems to read the play pretty well and is much better one on one than should be expected. Extremely handy left foot too, team high 2 score launches from his vision exiting defence. I am completely comfortable with him and Edwards being our guys long term. The expectations on this board are ridiculous at times he's been a shining light. So far as Archer goes, we shouldn't be writing his chances of being a forward off yet for a start and yes if he was instead to become our #1 ruckman he may well be elite there as well. Big preseason looming for a lot of these guys, I expect much better things from them all in 2026.
