Despite some promising signs from young players, I am still frustrated with the inability to close that game out. They shouldn’t have been in that game at the final break. Our ability to move the ball going inside forward fifty is a massive problem. Having a proper key forward will help, but Keeler currently isn’t impacting anything aerially. I like the young core, but we still desperately need blokes that can move the needle in the 23-26 age range. Most of their goals came from turnover, and funnily enough it’s usually the same culprits. It’s either poor skill execution or a lack of IQ. It will sound harsh but there are some players in our side that are a cancer to our ball movement time and again. And when we do make inside fifty we have blokes who don’t want to take responsibility. The season has been cooked for a while, but losing games like this still boils my blood
keeler kicked 2 goals
Played 8 games ffs

Just on that. The umpires got crucified in the media a few times this year for not stopping play immediately when there's a player prone on the ground like that.

This is what everyone wanted them to do. Remember the hysterics from even the fans on social media when the umpires let play continue with a player out on the ground?

They need to amend the rules, so that if the game is stopped - the player must leave the field to be checked out.

But aside from that, it's unfortunate timing. But it wasn't incompetence by the umpires.

The play wasn't near him and we were heading away from him toward our goal. To stop play and then make it a ball up was bizarre.

It doesn't matter anymore if the play isn't near them, the umpires have been instructed to stop play as soon as they notice someone is down. Play doesn't need to stop for them to do this, anymore.

I don't like it, but that's what's changed this year.

Just blatant with the umpiring from-
Garcia finally getting a free and nope can’t take advantage
Boltons obvious out on the full
Wood being tripped
Dudley getting a shot on goal for nothing
Darcy blocking every ruck contest
Not stopping play when Treacy lay on the ground until saints were off and then stopping play and doing a ball up. wtf.
How can Darcy not look at the ball but his opponent every ruck crash into him but it's play on?

We should have won. Major issue is our forward line. Higgins becoming the latest liability in front of goal. It's so young up there but we are just so lacking in targets and quality. We missed so many easy shots.

Great game from Hall but his opponent Clark destroyed us. Will be a big learning moment for him but he showed how dangerous he can be as a link up player.

Tauru is amazing. Will be an incredible player for us.

Felt like a breakout game from Garcia. He didn't have a large number of tackles but I guess we mainly killed them around stoppages so no opportunity? He was really clean.

Loved that we kept going to the end but jeez we threw it away.

The less said about the umpiring the better.

Not having a crack at him. Just saying that it’s unfair to expect a physical presence for a bloke in his third season. I’m a big fan, but anyone saying he impacted in aerial contests today are delusional. He will be good in time, when he gets stronger. But three touches for the match and his two goals coming from brilliant kicks from Clark and Hall.

Are they going to stop play when a player is down now? He wasn't even hit in the head it was ribs. If that is the direction we are going then players will be faking injuries all day. That was a shambolic piece of umpiring at that moment.

Largely because we had two extra around the ball at stoppages

Probably because the two extra we had around the ball were from the forward line, which left us two short up there when we went forward.

It’s the price you pay.

Also just played quite badly up forward. It looked like we had no system and had 4 players going at the ball.

It was incompetence because they didn’t stop it as soon as it happened. Only when the ball was being moved out of the area.

Possibly, but was weird that when the ball was in the 50 near Darcy and Freo were contesting the ball and the umpires could clearly see Treacey on the ground, it was play on until the Saints got a break away.
Curious

Was at the game freo fans were in awe of hall turned the game in the 3rd quarter
Elite kicking elite decision making bit a bad effort for 15 games of afl footy

Hall was playing up near the centre and Clark sitting across HB. Not exactly like he played a role on him.

Yeah maybe harsh just seemed to be on him a lot. Hall was great.

We needed to do something about Clark. He kills us every time we play them. Pretty much won them the game.

Forward line was hopeless. None of them want to kick goals. Not sure why Henry was in. Should have been the box.
I’m ready to go full cairnsman on cooper.
Butler in has completely stuffed Higgins
Wood and Owens crashing into eachother non stop.

I hope Keeler has a thilthorpe style off season. He could be anything just needs more confidence in his body

Why why why when we lack a key tall up forward do we continue to bomb the ball in?? They ran it out easily time and again who the fck is responsible for that ??
Why - like we did at the start when Clark kicked to Keeler - can’t we now looking for and hitting up the leading forward ?
Why can’t Sharman lead up at the ball carrier ??? Why bomb it FFs it’s basic shit
Great effort the kids were superb but come on
And I’m sorry but guys in that forward 50 who once again simply can’t kick is sub AFL standard. It’s not even worth watching Owens or Higgins take a drop punt shot in a slight 30 degree angle 30+ out. They are flat out kicking a point !!
Mason Wood - twice today very very gettable goals just no composure in the moment ….25 out kicking round the corner routine shot ….poster ??
Watch Treacu watch Bolton from
Boundary watch Jackson FFs when it mattered these guys kicked the goal

Jackson did his thing in the last qrt. good on him & the home crowd got in on it. Yeah we lost & played well.
We are young now too, & like Freeo, we need to weed out the also rans.
Our young players looked super impressive today, so hey, a 2 goal loss in WA, is not the end of the world, yeah?
Alot of positives out of it actually.
Freeo, were turnover Harries against us last time, what's news?
2 goal loss over there, & you're overly sooking big time.

Since no autopsy thread.

Super disappointed for the lads.

Overall, it just kills when we don’t kick goals early. We desperately need another key forward.
Whether it’s king or someone else I don’t care. I’ve listed options at other clubs, but that’s for SOS to sort out.

Tauru- everything and more. He was so good I think his tenacity started to rub off on other guys. Stocker and Cama in particular. I’ll say it untill I’m red in the face. He’s our forward secret weapon. He should’ve had a few more marks but alas. He’s got some serious See You Next Tuesday in him.

Cama - I thought Cama played a quality game on the back of Roo.

Hally- classic Dalrympal pick. Tough clean smart. I said it earlier but he’s got a bit of Zac Bailey about him.

Garcia’s first half was superb and his ball use just improved out of sight. Once he gets over the 30 disposal once I don’t think you’ll see him drop.

I thought Windy worked bloody hard.

Trav- little signs. Super sharp hands, always trying to get on the run , also another good tackler.
