Battle out again does my head in. The way ratten is managing him is atrocious.

It's like watching a slow train wreck.

Really frustrating.
Let me gringo it for you.

If Paddy had've not had concussion issues we wouldn't have had to draft Battle.

So it's really hard to look at Battle and not think of Paddy.

And then it's really hard not to think of Paddy without thinking of Petracca.

So...

Battle does my head in :grimacing:

Playing short down back with a beefed up midfield in Jones. The thinking must be - win clearances and stop it from going down their end at all costs. With Cameron, Hipwood and Daniher down there I guess that makes sense. I have no idea who will hit the scoreboard for us. It will either be over at half time as a failed experiment, or if the strategy works we will stay in it till the bitter end.

Because he's a forward being played out of position... then dropped. We'll screw this up then he'll go to another club and show his potential in his natural position. The apologists here will then bring out a raft of excuses as to why we didn't give him a decent run as forward.
Battle is unproven as a forward though. If you are arguing he’s a key back there’s some track record there in 2019.
He was tried for a short period as a forward at the start of his career but more informed people thought it wasn’t his position.

I still see Battle as a forward and would be interested in seeing him get a couple of full games at FF, as I just see Max get bumped out of position too easy at the moment- might be different with another year under his belt though.
King seems to be getting stronger IMO.

Used his body well last week.

I don't think FF would be suited to Battle either. He's more of a get on us bike forward similar to Membrey.

Battle has said his perfered position is in the forward line and the years before he was drafted that is where he played and you are right he plays like Membery however his contested marking is no where close to Membery's at the moment.
Still feel Battle will establish himself at the club , highly skilled player who is off the boil.

Not sure why it’s doing your head in. Battle is only averaging 12 posies a game. Who goes out for him and what position does he play? Doesn’t fit in the forward line with Roma, Max and Members. While Highmore is in he doesn’t fit in the backline and Connelly looks a better disposal of the ball.
Somehow we have space for a washed up reject from the bottom side in our forward line.

If you are referring to Wood then it’s interesting that the said washed up reject has better form than Battle. Doesn’t bode well.
Because Wood's playing in his preferred position and Battle's been relegated to a wing all year? Or are you going to try and say that Battle has been played optimally?

You asked where Battle could go if not in place of the 3 forwards you mentioned or Highmore. I said he should be in instead of Wood. Wood who's only just started to show any semblance of form for any team over the last 2 weeks after he spent 9 years toiling away as a fringe KPF in a team devoid of KPFs.

He was tried for a short period as a forward at the start of his career but more informed people thought it wasn’t his position.

Not exactly, he shifted back when Brown retired (mid '19 officially) and Robbo was still out with his heart issue, you know, lacking people his height and build in the D50 at the same time. At that point, I believe he played 7 games, with Rising Star nom as a forward, but also not a large sample size to speak of either way. At that point we had Bruce who started there, shat the bed, got moved to FF instead, Members and McCartin was still around in that F50 randomly for 3 talls going into 2019, so you know, had cover to play tall or small most weeks up forward. Was more a convenience thing going by timing. His first full season as a forward was, well, last year actually.

Basically, not that it's not his position by informed people, just that players play a role and he played that role at that time.
