Wowsers! So last week is a final and Pav doesn't play? Yeah ok. He'd play even if he was on his death bed. Hence he was rested. When was the last time you saw a player removed prior to a final through illness?

Resting our best players? Who said anything about that?? Now you're taking my comments to the extreme.

Check my teams again.

I'm certainly not entertaining the idea of resting our stars. Clown.

you get used to it with poker

On current form, that is exactly what has happened. Missing Pav, Hill and Johnson we crushed Melbourne.

If we rested players and lost a game, heads would roll at the FFC. Teams don't rest players unless they are too sore to play or there is nothing on the line. It's incredibly hubristic to think we can just go and rest our superstars over the next 3 weeks.

Was I the only one who saw the glare Ross gave the journo who asked if we are going to give McPharlin another week off this week because we are playing GWS?

No, he said, he'll play if he passes his fitness test, end of story.

With the way the table is at the moment it could also be said that not playing our best team every week could cost as a home final. With the bye coming up in two weeks I would be very surprised if we rested anyone who isn't able to play. Clarke might rest due to injury concerns, not because we are resting anyone. The difference between last year and this year is the extra bye. Sandy IMO is a player who needs to play every week top keep his touch. I can't see him missing a game at this point in the year.

I guess the other way of looking at it, would you rather Sandi was 90% fit going into finals or 100% but he missed 1 game e.g. the away game vs St Kilda or Brisbane.

Obviously it is a fine line in how many players you rest, but I would chose the second option.

You mention Clarke being rested, and this is exactly what I am talking about - Any player that has a minor injury or is just a bit sore and could benefit from a week off we should consider resting them.

If he is too sick to get out of bed, why would we play him in a GF? It would be like playing with 17 men. He didn't play last week because he couldn't.

Play him as a decoy and his reputation pulls a player away from the contest. Happens all the time in big games with underdone players.

Going around in circles.

Have you ever played sport? Have you ever been sick? Have the 2 ever crossed paths and you've had to make a decision?

Or do you just lay in bed everytime you're sick and life stops?

He was sick, I'll give him that, but sick enough to not play if it was a GF!? You're too funny.

GWS are not flying Treloar, Coniglio & Shaw over. They're 3 pretty critical players for them.

I think Ross is right (as always) in saying the 2 byes this year means the need for a tank game is less, though if we have sewn up a top 2 spot heading into the last 2 rounds I doubt we will fly our A grade team to Brisbane but until then we will go all out every week.

Sorry, I didn't realise you were Pav's doctor and have inside knowledge as to exactly how sick he was.

If he had the flu, for example, there would be no point playing him because he would barely be able to walk. If he had gastro he wouldn't be able to take off on a lead without crapping his dacks.

Also need to isolate folks with contagion from spreading it around

If he had the flu, then putting him on the same plane as the rest of the team would have been a risky idea ...

You may want to cast your memory back to last year (or perhaps the year before last) when the issue of managing players was brought up. Ross Lyon regretted not managing Luke McPharlin, when they had opportunities to do so. This is fact and for Lyon who doesn't deal in hypotheticals, you could tell he was annoyed they messed up that opportunity.

No one is talking resting superstars.

I had CLarke out as he looks like he needs to freshen up. Griffen can have a game, plus it just allows us to have a look at a ruckman should we lose one of CLarke or Sandi.

I had Crowley and Spurr and Zac out all for mental breaks and get theirs bodies freshened up.

None of those 4 are superstars and we won't lose anything if Pav, Johnson, Deboer and Griffen come in.

And yes, GWS are walkovers.

If he had the flu and caught it literally Saturday morning as he did fly Friday and putting him on a plane with the flu would be dumb, then he wouldn't be right for this week either.

If he had gastro, you use a butt plug if it was a GF.

Not his doctor, but some common sense please.

I have no doubt he was ill. That said IMO if it wasn't Melbourne and we were playing a better side, he'd have suited up and played.

They didn't see the need to push him through it and hence he was rested.

There are probably a few in the same boat right now.

You can't honestly tell me that if that game was a final, that Pav would've flown home ill?

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. According to Jason Webber in the injury update, Pav was severly ill. It's possible that he'd have played in a final, but I doubt he would have played in any other Home and Away game.

Teams rest players all the time. Here's a small sample from this year.

Round 15 Adelaide -
Ben Rutten (Rested)

Round 14 Essendon
Paul Chapman (RESTED)

Round 8 Essendon
Ben Howlett (RESTED)

Round 5 Essendon
Jason Winderlich (REST)

Then you have a bunch of star players who catch a bout of the General (soreness) against crap teams.

Apparently was ill with a very high temp.Unsafe to exert with a high temp.Pav wouldnt miss a GF you would think so technically he was rested .

There are also players who are "managed". Geelong had three against St Kilda in round 13

I'm pretty sure this could be sliced n Diced

I am happy that GWS have had to leave a few of their best 22 behind. At this stage, Sunday looks like good weather. I therefore hope that we field as strong a team as is possible, and that Lyon has them well and truly pumped for the game. Given the top four logjam, it is important that we maximise our percentage when the opportunity exists. We'll have enough closish games at the back end of the season as it is.

How did we get to a place where using a butt plug is the common sense approach? Where did we go so terribly wrong?

My GP recommended imodium. Should I get a second opinion?
