He was jogging around on the track this week. I'd say it's Freo's term for rested unless he did a calf hopping out of bed.

Both Ibbo and Macca are running in this pic from Wednesday.

Phil Davis is a pretty handy defender. If the teams line up as shown on the AFL website then Apeness will be getting their best tall defender again.

Nope Davis will go to Pav. He usually goes to the most damaging forward. Against Sydney Davis went to Buddy and Mohr went to Tippet at FF

Calves often stiffen up in the cold weather we've been having. I reckon it's on the lighter side and we'll see them both within the next couple of weeks. Ibbo probably still needs to build match form leading into September and Macca... I hope he can solidly play out the rest of the year after this injury; one more and I think he may very well hang up the boots. Apparently he's keen to further his music career once he hangs up the boots.

I guess the other way of looking at it, would you rather Sandi was 90% fit going into finals or 100% but he missed 1 game e.g. the away game vs St Kilda or Brisbane.

Obviously it is a fine line in how many players you rest, but I would chose the second option.

You mention Clarke being rested, and this is exactly what I am talking about - Any player that has a minor injury or is just a bit sore and could benefit from a week off we should consider resting them.

In my opinion there is very little chance the match committee will be taking GWS as lightly as some are here. Sandy is actually the last person on our list who I would rest at the moment. He is the player who most needs to play avery week to keep his form. I would have thought, even if you agree with the logic above it would be more beneficial to rest Sandy closer to the finals. There is absolutely no guarantee that this far out from finals he will 90% rather than 100% if we rest him this week.

I know some here will disagree, but IMO Sandy looses touch very quickly when he misses games. The chances of keeping him in form increase if he plays every game.

Who said at the expense of Spurr?

Wow some make some poor connections, based on nothing.

I never said dropped either.

Anyway whatever, I was just making my suggestions and thought Spurr drew the 'will get a rest card'. My suggestion of Crowley is also highly unlikely, but again that's why we speculate. Griffin will also likely not come in.

It will likely be

In: Pav and Johnson
Out: Zac and Mayne (both rested)

Both Spurr and MDB were bolded in the post, I don't see that as a poor connection at all no. That's actually the obvious conclusion to make. All moot now of course.

Neale is not a forward pocket. He plays in the midfield.
Serriously a team sheet means nothing. Apart from very few player who stay forward or back most player play nearly anywhere anyway...

Well depends how you look at your teams and how you wish to manage the 22 you have picked.

Pav and Johnson are in for this week and McPharlin and Ibbo are out.

So does that mean Pav is going to play in defense? That's the only logical conclusion to make, is it not?

Of course it isn't, because everyone understands the role of Pav.

So to make the conclusion that Spurr is out and Deboer was in and going to play his role, just shows a lack of understanding of the flexibility within our team.

It doesn't matter now, but not all ins and outs have to be direct replacements and play the exact role. Thats just dumb thinking, so to make that 'obvious conclusion' is also dumb.

Sorry, I didn't realise you were Pav's doctor and have inside knowledge as to exactly how sick he was.

If he had the flu, for example, there would be no point playing him because he would barely be able to walk. If he had gastro he wouldn't be able to take off on a lead without crapping his dacks.

especially as we wore our away strip.
maybe on hawthorn players playing at home could get away with it

At training on Wednesday Ibbo and McPharlin just jogged laps. Ibbo looked ok but McPharlin looked very proppy. Neither joined in the training proper. Both are injured and not resting.

If you rest a player this week they will be playing one game in a three week period. That is not going to happen.

Looking at the lineups this is a good chance for Apeness to show what he's got. Davis will go to Pav for sure, but Davis still isn't playing his best footy since coming back. And with Shaw definitely not playing their backline's a bit light on, so no big 2nd back for Pav. I wouldn't be surprised if they move Patton down back again, which will make the job a lot easier for our backline.

If Boyd comes in, and Cameron stays in (wouldn't be surprised if they rest him), GWS are playing very tall, so McPharlin's a big out. But then Cameron's playing terribly, I know they're saying it's a form slump but he can't turn or jump, and can't stop short - he's clearly injured. I know he hasn't played much since injury, but putting Pearce in the side might be a good test to see where he's at in case McPharlin can't get up again (fingers crossed it's only a niggle though)

not about our selections, but about theirs

didn't Cameron miss the game against wc in WA due to ear issues during flights, but he is chosen to play against us at Subi?

did GWS rest him against the lesser team of wc? :p not taking into the consideration of the flat track bully result :D

anyway, at least the Freo crowd will see the young star (out of form atm I know), but it is always best to see the best

Cameron had medical advice not to fly. The week before he drove to Canberra

so it was a short term thing?
I doid know it was medical & I was surprised that is was so temporary.
Having stated that, I' happy for him that it hasn't proved to be ongoing.
sorry if I was flippant

Are people on here for real? Do they honestly believe that we would be resting McPharlin after only 1 game back? Seriously? Clearly he's got something, hopefully only a niggle, but there is absolutely no way he would be rested after playing 1 game in 5 weeks.

His continued injuries are a real concern, both for our flag chances this year, and also for the likelihood of him playing on next year. I would be very surprised if he plays on next year (a very sad day for us, he's one of my all time favourites).

Yeah it was a burst eardrum so 3-4 weeks of no flying cos of pressurisation issues on planes. That's why he still played home games.
