I think we would struggle if it was at Moorabbin.I'd like to think we will knock off this Saints outfit pretty comfortably wherever we play.
Do not rate their list at all.
Considering NSW gov allowed the Cronulla Sharks to go up to Suncorp Stadium and back during a lockdown, I don't see how the Vic government would not approve a fly in, fly out deal. The NSW and Vic governments are very different beasts, though.
This is far worse than what any of the Victorian clubs had to endure in their 'hubs' last year. Would have to mess with our preparation and mental health.
Metricon could be an option as its in a lower zone according to Vic Gov's restrictions. This whole thing is silly considering the number of daily cases in Qld is single figures and no unlinked cases, but that is a whole different discussion.
Meanwhile the AFL is willing to give Queensland as long as possible to decide whether it will allow Brisbane to host St Kilda at the Gabba on Saturday night.
Brisbane originally believed it would fly home as soon as players and staff received a negative test on Sunday. This was then delayed until Tuesday.
The Lions are waiting to hear whether they can fly home on Tuesday. Their Round 18 and 19 matches are both in Melbourne, with the AFL hoping to announce the Round 18 fixture this week too.
One option would be to play the match at Metricon Stadium if Brisbane is a red zone and Gold Coast is orange or green. The venue is vacant this weekend with the Suns heading to regional Victoria.
Tom Morris not doing his research, pretty standard stuff.Surely the issue is the Vic Government and not Qld letting us back in?? weird.
Anyway per Tom Morris we will be on saturday night.
It’s the AFL currently not allowing the lions to return, not any state government. Brisbane has still been a red zone the last few days so the AFL is fearful the Lions could get stuck if that isn’t lifted in the near future.Weird passage from the updated fox article on the expected fixture:

All the states have used slightly different strategies in their Covid responses, just depends on which expert they listen to... although just maybe some of the decisions have a political bent to them and governments aren't as altruistic re the publics health as they try to make out.Considering NSW gov allowed the Cronulla Sharks to go up to Suncorp Stadium and back during a lockdown, I don't see how the Vic government would not approve a fly in, fly out deal. The NSW and Vic governments are very different beasts, though.
Fixture of our last game wasn't finalised until Thursday or Friday so I would be surprised if they made a call this early in the week.
100% agree. Easier to fly both Lions & Saints to Gold Coast and hope that Brisbane goes from Red zone to Orange zone over the next few days. It’s the AFL currently not allowing the lions to return, not any state government. Brisbane has still been a red zone the last few days so the AFL is fearful the Lions could get stuck if that isn’t lifted in the near future.
They’ll aim to get this game at the GABBA with Metricon as the backup since it’ll be easier flying Stkilda to the Gold Coast (yellow zone) than the Lions back to Melbourne from Brissy (red zone) at the last minute if needed.
If it is "not any state government" stopping the gameIt’s the AFL currently not allowing the lions to return, not any state government. Brisbane has still been a red zone the last few days so the AFL is fearful the Lions could get stuck if that isn’t lifted in the near future.

Zorko said they had packed for two weeks on AFL360 last WednesdayGuys. The lions players packed for only 1 week. They have to come back to Queensland (regardless) and we definately won't be able to play St Kilda at the MCG, so there's no chance of us playing this game in Melbourne. It's either Gabba or Metricon.
If QLD gets a dozen community infections overnight, our lads will be playing in Melbourne on the weekend. Fingers crossed that doesnt happen but how long the players/coaches/support staff packed for is irrelevant.Guys. The lions players packed for only 1 week.
