Thomas may be in the top half a dozen most talented players to walk in the door of the club. Ever.

We have a honor roll of some of the absolute GOATs when it comes to that.

His ceiling is generational, TOTC type stuff.

He’s a level or two above Wells in quite a few departments, crazy thought.
Kudo’s to Noble, Thomas improvement is the most rapid I’ve seen at the club in about 30 years since Pagan first took the reigns.

Noble & Nicks are two of the best upcoming coaches in the competition IMO.

Am a fan of Noble,I am a Glenelg supporter originally, still do, he did a great job with us, really laid the foundations to make the club successful again, we were awful for three seasons beforehand, like really awful. Really happy when he got this job, he deserved an AFL spot

It was an ordinary telecast from Commentary to Vision. It’s beyond me how Healy is still relevant? A rubbish special comments guy. Needs to be moved on. :stern look
He's astute tho. He foresaw Carlton running over us in the 1999 GF when everyone else saw us putting them to the sword.

You’ve just illustrated that Healy has been making imbecilic calls for years. Time for someone at Fox to wise up and give this Turkey the Arse. :stern look

Thanks for coming in and saying, I didn't even know he coached Glenelg.

But what you've written here, North fans should frame for the archives, so that in future we can all know the full richness of the story of David Noble and those who knew to look, because they'd seen the man before.

Positives:

- Taylor showing some class, could become a great foil to Stephenson and Zuhaar
- Simpkin & LDU really starting to walk the talk and did a brilliant job covering for Cunners
- Thomas looking like he is going to be dangerous every week. Exciting.
- Turner - brilliant - love the idea of him being a little bulldog ruining someone's day each game
- Walker continuing to firm as our third tall
- Lazzaro excites and shows a heap of potential.
- Hall had a poor game by his 2021 standards, but was still everywhere
- Six day break, our forward line was every bit as dysfunctional as rounds 1 - 8, but we didn't get smashed. This probably says more about Essendon than us but a huge positive all the same.

Negatives

- Not much but really, this game was for the taking. And it does concern that we seem devoid of chemistry in our forward half sometimes. Why were there so few long balls to Larkey in Q2 and Q3 with a crumbing forward nearby? It should be our go-to entry when we are controlling the game but during Q2 in particular we seemed to be out of position each and every time. Hard when you are not at the game, perhaps it made perfect sense but how dammit how.
- Worried about Atley. Heap of talent, can find the ball, but never damages the opposition and quite often does the complete opposite.
- That looked like a trip from Simpkin. If I saw that correctly, really hope we never see that from him again. He'll trash his reputation in no time.

What do you know. More positives than negatives from what was a pretty dull, low skilled game. But we had an excuse, the Bombers did not, and victory was within our grasp for 90% of game time which is huge.

Said this once before this year but he is the Tony Greig of Poxtel; job for life

Or 69 years

Whichever comes first

When all the young guys cease having Stage Front BOGs and then disappear the next week, and these games of individual brilliance merge collectively into week in week out team brilliance, is when the frustration of that last quarter will be but a mere minuscule of a memory.

I can remember most games of 93 to 99 when prompted, but maybe one or two from 1989 to 1992.The same will be said for 2018-2021…

Hopefully when this era is here, Stringer is still playing

Well a forgettable match in many respects, we had to work hard for the draft victory when you consider * are now in the eight.
Would be disappointed if we play 3 KPD next season. Seem to have picked up a few injuries and that will further test our depth which isn't flash.
C Taylor looked lively still cannot work him out. Lucky not my job to do that. The youth looked pretty good again and that really is our focus.

Cunners, Anderson, Perez, Comben, Powell, Ford, Edwards, Kyron and Young , so plenty of options as we move forward.

Where Curtis settles is a big question. But he has a s**t load of talent, so that’s a good start. Plus he comes across as a good egg.

This is enjoyable, Old Boy. We’ve some fun times ahead.

Wasn’t the prettiest of wins but considering we fielded 9 players under 50 games, only second to the Gold Coast this round, with injuries to the likes of McGrath, Shiel, Langford and Jones - I’d happily take the 4 points.

I thought we hit some targets to absolute perfection and couldn't believe how comfortable we were with it. Especially when it was on the transition.

Our let down was F50 entries. I reckon they become an issue when we are gassed. Need to help Larks in some capacity when our kicks aren't coming in low and hard vs. long bomb.

Fantastic

Thanks for the thoughts

iirc you were the second youngest team, not the team with the second least players under 50 games. TBH though even that might be wrong because I don't trust much of anything that come out of the commentators mouthes. FWIW we had 11 under 50 games.

Sonaldo, optimism is a great thing but you just had a shaky win against the bottom team that had a six day break after playing Subi in the mud, travelled two weeks in a row and lost their best player at short notice. Also our best forward played half the game injured and barely fired a shot.

If you want to scrape into the finals and make an impact, today probably isn't a big step forward for making that a reality.

Too much Healy and Dwayne Russell this year. It's the price we pay for not being on free to air, and in the non-prime time slots. But BT is full of hot air, so there really isn't a lot of talent around.

The camera work today was shocking, too many zoomed out views, and when not zoomed out, the panning was about 10 metres behind the ball, so you couldn't see who the ball was kicked to, just the ball on the edge of the screen. The shadow on the wing didn't help things either, but that's not the broadcaster's fault.
Was a shocking time to start the game. Sun right in your eyes for both teams kicking to the right of screen. And the lost broadcast side wing in complete darkness. Dracula could have played that wing all day !

Do not go to a day game at that oval. You sit in the sun, looking into the shaded part of the ground and the most common comment is not "ball'. It will be who's that? Or what happened? You cannot see. It's nearly as bad as the TV.

When Xerri dropped that mark many of the spectators would have missed it. He certainly did.

And the lost broadcast side wing in complete darkness

"Lost broadcast wing" Great description

Absolutely this.

Imagine Thomas' best.
Imagine LDU's best
Imagine Stevo's best
Imagine Zurhaar's best

Now imagine that for most quarters most weeks they are playing at or just below that.

We are going to be somewhat impervious to taggers.

Stringer leads Dons’ comeback

A JAKE Stringer-inspired Essendon has snuck into the top eight for the first time in 2021, but only after an unconvincing 18-point win against lastplaced North Melbourne at Metricon Stadium on Sunday.

The Bombers led by 20 points early in the fourth term. But the brave Kangaroos closed to within three points, before Stringer gave Essendon some breathing space with his third goal of the final term.

With his side under the pump from a fast-finishing Roos, Stringer calmly slotted the set shot to help the Bombers temporarily edge inside the top eight with their eighth win of the year.

Stringer finished with four goals and dominated when he was moved into the middle with five clearances and 16 touches. Zach Merrett (39 disposals ), Darcy Parish (34 disposals ) and Dyson Heppell (27 disposals) were the prime movers for the Bombers.

The Bombers kicked four goals to one in the third term, with Peter Wright booting two, to surge to an eight-point lead at the last change.

Parish had 11 disposals for the term, with the only goal for North coming from Tristan Xerri as the Kangaroos’ gutsy challenge wavered.

North Melbourne had a tumultuous week coming off its massive upset win against West Coast in Perth last Monday night, travelling back to Victoria on Tuesday, then up to Queensland on Thursday.

The last time the two teams met was in Round 10 when Essendon smashed the Roos by 72 points. But they were up for the fight this time. The Roos led by 10 points at halftime when both sides had every right to be unhappy.

The Bombers butchered three very gettable shots at goal in the second quarter, after being devoid of any defensive pressure.

Essendon looked flat across large sections of the first two quarters as a majority of North Melbourne’s scores came from sweeping movements out of the backline.

A late hit from Xerri on Bombers captain Dyson Heppell sparked Essendon in the second term, when North Melbourne should have been further in front given its dominance .

The Kangaroos led by 10 points at quarter-time .

TIPPA’S BAD DAY

ESSENDON’S Anthony Mc-Donald-Tipungwuti was held to zero touches by quartertime and just two disposals at halftime by Kayne Turner.

He was sent to the goalsquare to try and break the tag and did not have his first touch until he took a high-flying mark on centre wing.

To add to the dirty old day, he copped a knock on his left arm when he went into another marking contest.

He missed a shot at goal from point-blank range in the third, but set up a goal in the final term when he came into the game briefly.

STEPH SHUT DOWN

JAIDYN Stephenson frustrated Collingwood supporters when he was a Magpie with his inconsistent performances.

After 38 touches in a matchwinning effort against West Coast last week, Stephenson had an indifferent day.

The Roos star had 18 touches , including a botched kick at goal in the first half when he opted to dribble kick instead of drop punt.

SUPERB SPECCY

CAMERON Zurhaar added to his status as a cult hero for the Roos faithful with a spectacular grab in the first quarter.

The trademark locks were flowing in the breeze as he used James Stewart as a stepladder on centre wing.

He got so high that his body turned sideways, but Zurhaar managed to hang on to the Sherrin. Despite copping a shoulder injury, he kicked a vital goal late in the match to keep the Shinboners in it.

But the Bombers will be finals spectators if they repeat the first half against the Roos, when they lacked urgency.
