Out and ins

Kelly for gross
Allan for Cole
Hutchinson for Chesser
Jilliams or Flynn for Archer
Cripps for petrol
Maric for Grego

Blow it up coach...

Take out his goal, which Derm and Pav rightly pointed out he actually cheated in the first place and trailed his man to get on the end of..

Cripps really did have a shocking night, he was comically bad. His 10 touches, 2 tackles flatter him.

That said, I doubt we drop him ahead of his 250th, unless he's "managed" and ends up playing that milestone at home.

Is this to make us better or to tank?
Im not sure if you have watched any of our games this year but Im quite sure we are capable of losing without deliberately tanking.

Results dont matter for the rest of the year (except the Richmond game) so getting games into the pups and seeing how they perform at the next level should be a priority. Its not as if any of our senior players gave as anyrhing last night anyway- all our best players were uder 22 with the exception of Ryan perhaps.
Lets go too far the other way.

The problem is that the kids replacing kids are no better - it takes time.
Kelly several times held up play because our forward line was full of GWS players and he looked for options. You have to know when to hold
There were a number of times this happened, not just with Kelly. I am not against holding the ball up looking for something to happen but the movement was so stagnated from the forwards as well, there weren't many leads on offer.

GWS had a massive flood on, the forward 50 was packed. Reid's kick to Baker the only kick I can think of that got through it.

Real poor all around last night in off the ball movement across the whole team.

On defence we got cut up through the corridor with some shitty zone that was ineffective and then on offence we looked too gassed to create options for the ball carriers.

I was surprised to see we had 82 marks, it felt like we had 50 and couldn't control the ball at all.

Going from 61 turnovers last week to 93 this week is what killed us. The fumbles were back as were the handballs to shoe laces.

yes, we were belted by a high quality team. The funny part was the posters on here proclaiming we will lose pick #1.

I made this comment in the game day thread; What's to lose by going fast into the forward line to a contest?

When we were a capable team I can understand the idea behind setting up behind the ball to allow for repeat entries. However at this point - and it was especially apparent last night - whether we wait to set up or not the ball was being walked back down the other end with ease for a score. So instead of getting on the front foot and backing our players in to win a contest in our forward line and then at worst it comes out for a score, we hold onto it until our 50 is packed with 30 players, bomb it high to a pack, turn it over, then it goes down the other end for a score anyway.

This was a remnant of the end of the Simmo era that I had hoped/thought we had moved on from. To see it repeatedly last night was nauseating. Making my piss boil just thinking about it right now.

Agreed, holding it up is fine if there's movement and space in front of you. There wasn't that last night and the players needed to make the change.

The only other things to consider:
  • If you are waiting for a particular player to get into position eg: Forward leads up the ground for a relieving mark on the wing, kicks to someone at HFF and they want him to be able to get back to provide an aerial contest.
  • Allow defensive setups to take affect, in theory to minimise the damage of the potential turnover.
That second bullet point though as you said, was irrelevant for us last night. Whatever they were meant to be setting up for defensively got absolutely cut up with ease.

It's just annoying that the players can't adapt to this mid-game and read the room. Surely that's not a coaching instruction.

It was almost like we just wanted a breather for a bit from being made to chase all day.

Jumped to contest the footy, got someone high

Not a heap in it, pretty sure the GWS player was fine, but they'll spin the wheel

Looks like he got fined for this, but that’s it.

Tom Green fined for striking him too. Nothing for Toby.

Based on the WAFL game today:

OUT: Kelly, Cripps, Hutchinson, Allan
IN: Rawlinson, Rawlinson, Rawlinson, Rawlinson
Okay, jokes aside. Aforementioned four out with Owies, Gross, Long and Cole coming in.

EDIT: Switched Chesser for Long

Good to see the Beagles play so well - gives us some options for changes.

For mine:
Out: Hutchinson; In: Chesser
Out: Kelly; In: Owies
Out: Champion; In: Gross
Out: Allan; In: Cole

Gross to sub.

Very tempted to drop Cripps for Long as well but feel Cripps just has enough credits in the bank (but wouldn't want another game like last night!)
