All 2 of them?
I'd rather have Welsh as a crumbing forward, they do about the same amount of crumbing and at least Welsh kicks goals and takes marks.
I couldn't deny he had a good first half against the Kanga's (as I said, I barely saw it) but there is no way you can convince me it was a great first half or a better than pass game.

He might've only had 2, but what about the pressure he put on the Kangaroo defenders to cause turnovers?? You probably wouldn't give him credit for that bevuase it isn't a stat. Bode has 75 tackles for the year, 10 more than any other crow. Not bad for a forward, if you ask me.

Welsh isn't a crumbing forward. He's a leading forward, will kick more goals from marks than crumbing. If we are going to have Roo, Hentschel, McGregor, Perrie or Welsh up forward we need a small crumbing forward to compliment these guys and Bodey is our best option.

I'm not a wrap for A. Jarman, but I think he may have had a point today. It might be time to rest a player or two in prep for a torrid finals series. I would like to see Douglas get a game this week. He is a great player and it would be good to see him in a pressure game in case we get injuries during the finals series.
Ultimately, I think we need to start getting the team we want playing in the finals on the park so that they have several weeks together before the big games.

My Finals team would be:

Welsh McGregor Thomson
Roo Perrie Hentshcell
Burton Goodwin Mattner
McLeod Bock Torney
Johncock Rutten Bassett

1R Biglands Shirley Edwards

I/C Hart Van Berlo Doughty/Reilly Hudson (if fit!)

EM: Torney Bode Doughty/Reilly

I would love to have a place for Torney but just can't find one! My Forward line feels a bit 'top heavy', but could be damn hard to match up on. Imagine swapping Roo for Edwards in short spurts, or taking McGr off and throwing Burton forward. The bench looks to give good coverage, with Hart in D, VB on ball or in D Doughty/Reilly on ball and the resting ruckman.
Bode is also unlucky. Massie and Stevens have been hard done by, but I just don't trust them in the crunch!

Ideally I would like to see this group given a couple of weeks together to see how it gels. If we are top heavy etc.., then better to find out now than later!

This week I would try to get Perrie and Welsh in as well as perhaps resting Edwards (he has been terrible the last two weeks) and giving Douglas a game.

Thoughts?

Looks like you have found one... ;) :p

But seriously, Perrie will not get near the Crows team again in 2006.

How quickly you all change your tune! Shameful. One game. ONE. I'm sure you can pull up instances where individual players have also played a bit av, but those gaps have been filled by our team. The whole reason we are in the position we are in is because of our team work and unity. Dicing up this team because of one bad game would do us far more damage than playing a group of clearly tired players, but proven winners.

Reilly has improved this season. He's had 2 quiet weeks. Probably isn't coping to well with the extra training I'd say. What's the point of training him up so heavy no to use his slick skills in the midfield.

Doughty has been simply brilliant this year. Again: ONE GAME.

IN: Welsh, Bock

OUT: Bode, Massie

Probably the best suggestions I've seen. Although my preference has always to be get rid of Stevens (instead of Massie). Or maybe McGregor to rest with Bock playing CHF. Roo to rotate through the midfield. Maybe.

Does anyone on this site truly believe that the selectors will or should make wholesale changes to a settled side that has had one admittedly bad loss in two years? FFS we lose one away from home and it's as if the rest of the year hasn't happened.
I predict we will bounce back and win the next couple and you'll all be falling over yourselves with praise for our mighty side and coach.
Get used to it, Bode, Clarke, Biglands, Stevens, Doughty, Reilly, Kenny and others whose heads are being called for here, will be in the September side.
And, IMO, we will be grand-finalists this year.

it is interesting that people want untried players to come in this close to september when players who have proved they can perform have 1 bad game

IN: Bock
OUT: Porplyzia

my god anyone saying Reilly, Mattner, Doughty, Massie etc should be dropped after one game are complete morons. it was only last week that i saw people talking up massie/stevens and reilly mattner and doughty are all young and we need them in our team. personally i think mattner and reilly have been in our top 10 players this year, cannot afford to drop them.

I think the real issue is from here on in....anyone who gets dropped is going to be damn unlucky.

The facts are that we've got Pez, Huddo, Welsh, Macca, Torney, Bock to come back into the side....or at least be considered.

There will be some very good fringe players miss out

True but I'm inclined to back fringe players who have played absolutely brilliantly all year. If they make a habit of what happened at Subiaco... well thats a whole different story.

A valid point.

It is not uncommon for the younger players to drop off towards the end of the season due to fatigue. Is Reilly's recent drop in form related to the increased training workload? Remember he's only 22 - Adelaide's 3rd youngest player on the field this week, with the other two having missed large slabs of the season through injury.

However thats the rules here soon as some player who someone does not like they call for them to be dropped.

However if their fav players plays a bad one you dont hear a word

I wouldn't be playing too many players not 100% this WE. For me McGregor & Mattner are most in need of a rest. Bock & Welsh the ins.

B: Johncock, Rutten, Bassett
HB: Hart, Stevens, Massie
C: Reilly, Goodwin, Doughty
HF: Burton, Bock, Thompson
F: Bode, Ricciuto, Hentchel
R: Biglands, Shirley, Edwards
I: Clarke, Welsh, van Berlo, Porplyzia

i dont see the need for panic we lost one game and people are talking about dropping the likes of biglands doughty etc who have been in form all year all that needs to change is Porplyzia out and Finally WELSH!!! IN Cant afford to rest mattner with out McLeod his run from Half back is more vital than ever before

Oh and would the people that are picking on Bodey leave him alone he is the person that leads the crows in tackles and his forward line pressure will be extremely valuable during the finals

You can always try to improve a good side even more- even if it with an untried player.

Douglas will be a 10 year player. Give him a go and see how he performs.

Melbourne have shown us that it is still not too late with young Nathan Jones - their first round draft pick from 2005.

This is the prefect week for Douglas to come in - two games at AAMI.

He may give us somethng extra we have been lacking until now.

The big test will be the finals. This will determine who stays and who goes.

I will be looking very closely to see who stands up and who lets us down when the pressure is applied.

In: BOCK Out: McGREGOR

For me it's time for Kenny to have a rest, with Bock coming in as interim CHF until Perrie or McGregor regain enough fitness and form in the SANFL. It's not ideal as i do believe Bock is better off half back but he showed some good signs up forward against Kangaroos and is our best option for this week at CHF. For me, the only Ken should play this week is if we need an extra tall as insurance for match-ups in Collingwoods forward line with the tall timber of Rocca, Tarrant, T.Cloke/Fraser, in which case he or Bock would go back. If this occurs McGregor would take the initial bench position off Shirley (see below!)

In: WELSH Out: BODE

It seems popular opinion is finally swinging towards the inclusion of Scott Welsh and rightly so. Welsh in at FF, Ricciuto to play a rotating role between HFF, midfield and extended bench time for recovery. While a slightly injured Roo may be tough slower this year, he has the hardness, experience, class and endeavour to have an impact in bursts in midfield (similar to an ageing Voss). I also fear that despite his very good season at FF this year, his (currently) reduced mobility has been exposed by mobile 'mid-sized' fullbacks this year such as Raines and Sewell, and with James Clement being one of the premier players of this type in the comp it's time for Roo to move from the goalsquare.

The player to be dropped for Welsh...Bode. This is based on the whole season and not simply one game. I love the fact Bode gives 100% every game, tackles hard and tries to chase (though he is not overly quick). However, this does not make him a complete small forward. With Roo on a flank, and Edwards, Thompson and Porplyzia all rotating through the forward line, the loss of Bode would not be detrimental overall.

Room for DOUGLAS...I wish!

I know after such a great season, the players deserve a chance to redeem themselves so we will probably only see 2 changes this week in the interest of loyalty and stability (probably a good thing). If we were to make another change it would be Douglas for Shirley or Reilly with Shirley the unfortunate one, with VB moving into middle, and Porps getting greater field time, and Douglas being introduced off bench...but this is just a dream! It would be a bold selection but some players are special and deserve special consideration (e.g. bringing VB straight in after an extended lay-off). Douglas is a special player and without talking him up ridiculously could have an impact in the finals similar to a young Goodwin or Johnson in the premiership years.

BTW, I am again not reacting to one bad game from Shirley, I just think VB will be far better in his role this year and give us greater depth of talent in the side. (In the interests of fairness my favourite players Bass and Mattner also played stinkers but they are still in best 22, as long as Marty is fully fit).

So i reckon:

B: Bassett. Rutten. Hart.
HB: Mattner. Stevens. Johncock.
C: Massie. van Berlo. Doughty.
HF: Burton. Bock. Ricciuto.
F: Edwards. Welsh. Hentschel.
1R: Clarke. Goodwin. Thompson.

Int: Biglands, Porplyzia, Reilly, Shirley (should be Douglas!)/or McGregor

The question is how much weight to we give to the few games where the Crows have struggled (WCE x 2 and Richmond) compared to the many games where the Crows have dominated?

I'm inclined to lean towards the former as I think that these games give you the best indication as to how individuals are going to perform under finals pressure.

In the three games we have lost some worrying figures have emerged:

- McGregor has kicked a total of 1 goal
- Massie has averaged 10 possessions per game
- Mattner has averaged 8 possessions per game
- Clarke has taken a total of 5 marks and kicked 0 goals
- Biglands has taken a total of 5 marks and kicked 1 goal
- Hentschel has kicked 3 goals (only played in two of the losses though)
