The favourite sport on here is to get stuck into Keays.

He still had 12 tackles yesterday. And playing at a reasonable level if not where he was for the majority of the year . At least he throws himself in both ends. Not too many of ours do that. Sometimes it's not that easy in an ordinary side , surprisingly some seem to think it is.

I don’t think anyone goes out of their way to get stuck into Keays at all. We all love Ben and are happy to see him succseed. There would not be a Lions fan in this board that wouldn’t be happy for Ben.

Thing is - a lot of people want to use him as an example of us letting go good talent and to argue we are doing the same with Dev etc.

All I see people doing in response is A- pointing out the ops with the Crows didn’t exsist with us and B - temper some of the exsessive praise for him - by reminding people that he is still in a bottom 4 team and has defiencies.

I still don’t think the current version of Keays would get a spot a regular spot in a top 4 side, others share that view, I suppose we just feel that opinion needs to be put forward to balance the constant notion we stuffed up with Ben.

He'd get a regular spot in our side imo.

I don't see any constant notion that we stuffed up at all. All I see is the reverse opinion of that. And people going over his many deficiencies.

Which is completely irrelevant now anyway.

You don’t see the posts about ‘we are going to do with <player> what we did with Keays’?

And or people bemoaning the fact we gave up Keays, ‘could use Keays right now’ etc

I think that is pretty much the only way in which he comes up in conversation.

Anyway, I don’t think anyone just randomly chooses to bag Ben out of no where, but we are all blinded by our biases and pre conceived ideas, I’m not a massive fan of his game so I’m proably seeing what I want to.

Every time his name comes up there have people come out of trees to bag him for the last 2 years. Constantly.

I was the only person on here who defended him and used to cop an avalanche.

Not sure what you're seeing , it's not my experience.

It's only since we worked out our M/F wasn't that hot this year that you'd see the odd comment he'd be handy. Which is correct.

The deficiencies he had as a Lion still exist as a Crow.

You make it weirdly personal.

The topic of Keays' delisting comes up regularly, no surprise there.

It's pretty obvious why he was delisted, so people explain the deficiencies that lead to his delisting.

That's not people coming out of the trees to bag him, that's literally just discussing a team's decision and an ex-player. It's not like people are coming out saying he's a neo-Nazi, or De Goey, or whatever. It's pretty regularly discussion of his poor disposal - no surprise there - and his duplication at one of our stronger positions, hence why he got played out of position to try to get him into the seniors.

It's literally normal discussion of a player. I don't know anyone that gets passionately worked up against Keays, unlike Rayner or Daniher or McStay or X, Y or Z.

Forget Ben Keays. If you want to talk stuff ups, we stuffed up with James Hawksley! 🥺

I agree - just an ongoing discussion about a young player we parted ways with - would he be of value to us now, are current players getting the same treatment, is he as valuable as the media make him out to be?

All very normal things to reflect on in this situation.

Weirdly personal ??

I'm never the one that brings him up . Going over his deficiencies ad nauseum is not explaining , it's trying to keep digging a point home that died when he was delisted but still grates on people because he's had success somewhere else.

I don't agree at all with your summation about him or how it's discussed here .

But you're entitled to your views, it's a popular opinion.

Robbo would've got at least 1 though. Similar to Toby Greene tax until he retires.

WTF!!!

I’ve stayed out of this until the bolded.

That’s complete and utter b.s.

There’s not a single person here upset that Keays has found success else where.

Not a single person ?

Perhaps it would've been better put that everyone is 'happy' that Ben has found success somewhere else . I never said that people were upset about Ben personally . But you can't possibly have read the hundreds of posts on this topic over the last few months and not thought it doesn't grate that he has from a club perspective. Constantly reiterating that we made the right choice ,that he'd still never get a game with us , and that ,frankly ,he's not all that good anyway.

I also resented the weirdly personal bit . My views are weirdly personal but the views expressed in the above context are simply 'explaining the deficiencies '. I'm explaining his attributes and debunking the extent to which the deficiencies keep being raised.

Everyone disagreeing with me is fine. It's obviously a sore point.

Right call. Honest football incident.
I was definitely a bit dirty on him, as it felt he tried to make rich feel some contact, but just his clumsiness managed to clip him right in the head. Felt similar to the McFarlane and Brown incident, perhaps a little "clumsy on purpose", but we just seem to always be on the losing end of these incidents (see Payne / McStay last year).

So we had a French person with us tonight for the first time.

Very enthusiastic, but lost his s**t when the song was played 🤪🤣🤣
Lost it as in wow I am so excited this is awesome or lost it as in how dare these evil worms defile the honour of la belle France?**

**sorry if asked and answered later in the thread

I didn’t say anything personal.

It’s not a sore point. It’s that you keep banging on about Keays.

Whether you bring him up or not, you make the discussion in to something it’s not.

I still don’t understand how you can say it grates from the club’s perspective. No one from the club has engaged in any discussion here.

I’m one of those who wished we had kept Keays.

I’d have kept him instead of Mathieson. They’re similar players, with similar deficiencies, except Matho has a bigger body and Keays is a far superior runner.

Rayner might be a good HBF option. Get the ball into his hands and put him in a position to break some lines. Basically playing Answerth’s role but offering more polish and aerial ability.
You are an astute person - do you think Cam, as a pick one has a game in him like that no 1 from Dogs, Ugle Hagen or consistency of say a Walsh? I really want Cam to succeed and occasionally he shows glimpses, but like Rowell, Walsh, Ugle Hagen and even HorneFrancis, they get best on grounds or win games off their own boot but I worry that Cam doesn't simply have it. Worse yet, guys from his draft class such as Brayshaw at Dockers of Uniak-Davies at North look miles in front of him or do we just accept that he'll be an average player that teases us with brilliance from time to time?
