Autopsy Round 19, 2022: West Coast v St.Kilda

It wasn't pretty but we got it done.

I said it in the Gameday but I reckon we rely heavily on the mental side of the game so any kind of confidence we can get should give us something to build from.

We are in poor form but the Eagles have also been a lot better the last month or so, their record doesn't reflect how they've played recently. Happy to just get over the line any way we can and then use it to build into next week.

Windhager, Steele, Butler all huge. Could say more about the first two but would drag on. Steele is a leader by example, 40 touches, 11 clearances and 14 contested possessions. Enormous. Windy will be a star. Butler with 5 - career high.

Hopefully getting back to winning will give us something to work with next week in another must-win against the Hawks.

A win next week and Geelong win v Bulldogs will put us clear in the eight, so they get even more important from here.

Yeah yeah yeah, good win, equal 8th on the ladder, first win against the eagles in Perth since 2010, Steele 40 disposals, 8 tackles, 11 clearances, Crouch 1 goal, 31 disposals, 10 tackles, Windhager a future half of famer, Marshall 48 hitouts, Butler kicked 5 goals (should’ve been 6), so what, whatever.

But SERIOUSLY, in times like these I’m just over the moon that it has been national tree day for over a month now.

Jks aside, good win. Necessary win. But our ball use, especially going inside 50 is far from convincing still. Going to have to improve that very soon if we want to break into the 8.

On a happier note. Great contrast to when WCE beat us the last couple of years and we let Tim Kelly

finally looking like his prime self. Lead by example Steele stands up when needed. Loved watching Butler actually kick goals again, Higgins fit and getting involved around the ground.









Skills ****ing terrible. gameplan not much better. Luckily West Coast were too shit to capitalise. One of the least inspiring 5 goal wins I've seen. Until the end we struggled to kick away from a team that has been the punching bag of the AFL for the whole season.

Nice to be on the winners list though. If we keep the effort and fix the mistakes above we should make finals.

Poor game of footy, ground staff really dropped the ball and CBF cleaning paint of all things, umps not much better but it is WA so WGAF.

Windy big plus, won the game so huzzah, we are so mentally boomed it's not funny, great thing Eagles have shat the bed all season as this might have been ugly otherwise, not that it wasn't that already.
