Autopsy Round 19, 2025: Hawks cut the Power

Agree. Although the contest was virtually over by then. Not sure if the reaction would have been the same if the game was still in the balance.

If I was a Port fan and my team was down by that much and my coach was laughing I’d be pissed.

He gave a wry smile to an action that deserved a wry smile. Nothing to make a big deal over.

Finn played with a lacerated kidney yesterday, impressive.

In hospital right now, hopefully he recovers soon and is available for finals.

I knew he was tough, but that is some next level stuff. What contest did it happen in? Pretty heavy contact required for that injury.

Most likely the one where Butters took that courageous mark where Dear comes through late and accidentally collects Finn in the back. You can see Finn kind of struggle for a bit there after the collision. From what I can tell anyway.

A flying Calsher Dear is no small projectile. That would be a chance then, hell of a lot of Force behind Calsher's launches (and deceptively strong frame).

Yep, Moore definitely on the podium.

Champion Data believed Jordan Sweet's game was peak Max Gawn level, with 200 Supercoach points. Unbelievable, and honestly, pretty ridiculous watching it back last night with that in mind.
I brought Meek in to my own side to cover the suspended Xerri. If you'd asked me before the game which one would score 200 and which would score 87, I'd have said I was genius because it HAD to be Lloyd.
Lol I did too.

13 goals in this condition is a good effort. Would love to out the blues to the sword this week. We need to lift our offensive threat and cohesion.

When the ball is flying 25 meters sideways from a boundary throw in, it's a borderline great score.

That threat and cohesion you mention might not be far away. On the back of the coming boost to our midfield and forward line, Hok ball as we understood is last year would still be a chance to get rolled out over coming weeks.

It's hard to know how our talls will pan out come finals time. But Chol is one who can come in and add (not reduce) our forward pressure.

The whole team save for Weddle will be on the park in a week or two. Lord help them if Joe is good enough to play soon. The one thing you can count on is that he won't be lacking fitness if they decide that he can play.

You make some good points. I think we can play 4 Talls. Sammy will work something out. Surely we can't leave out the Cholls Royce when he's fit.
As for me, I refuse to make any suggestions because I can't quite work out the "how" part.

No he’s not.
Nash was more deserving of votes from the coaches. His inside work and tacking and tough winning of the ball was phenomenal. Just look at Nash’s last quarter !

You really don't like Ward, eh? Even after a great season, you still find an opportunity to talk him down.

The mountain of work Chol has done this year as the main key forward is to be commended. Interested to see what he can do in a forward line where he may get fewer but much much better looks.

Lewis has this week to stake his claim on a position in the 23 barring injuries. Sounds like they’ll be cautious with Chol for one more week.

I wouldn’t be resting Gunston until we are locked in the 8 and that based on the fixture is likely to be in round 24.

Not at all.
Merely saying that I thought Nash’s game rated higher.

I’m not talking him down (by merely saying that I thought Nash’s game was better).

To give you some history, I initially posted that I saw Josh as a future Hawthorn captain.

Then it seemed he took a longer time to develop for a top 10 pick. That wasn’t his fault of course and as many posters have said - wait til he gets to 50 games before you judge him. But he WAS dropped 3 times to Box Hill last year to “work on his stoppage craft” in the words of the coaches. That’s code for being harder at the contest.

And this year he’s done just that. I’m full of admiration that he’s worked as hard as he as at his game. He’s not as strong at the contest as Newcombe, Worpel or Nash but his work around the packs and disposal is excellent (except for last weekend but the conditions were the cause for that). He’s deservedly in our best midfield BUT with Day back it will be interesting to see - more likely Day, Newc and Nash as our starting mids with Worpel and Josh supporting.

If on anyone, the pressures’s on Frenchie.

But on the other hand, I don’t think I’ve ever seen 2 posters, you and Dewwie, so besotted by an emerging player, as you are and as you persistently post on Ward.

I admit I was (and still am) besotted with Huddo, Platts and Bucky - different age group of course - and I’d love to see Ward get to that level before the adoring praise. But right now he’s a long way short of that. I’d still love him to get the captaincy one day but not sure about that.

And all of this angst from you - noting that the AFL report listed Nash as our 4th best player and Ward didn’t rate in our best!!

Even then they have the bye week.

Was so great to give Ken the aeroplane as he walked toward us. The absolute cohesion of everyone thinking "Let's give him the aeroplane!" at the same time was hilarious.

Credit to Ken, he was annoyed at the loss as he walked off the ground, but he was still trying not to smile much about that being done to him.

Did this happen??
