Autopsy Round 19, 2025: Hawks cut the Power

I actually really enjoyed watching the game played in those conditions. Sometimes in games played in that weather the guys with the best footy smarts will shine instead of the best athletes like we see most weeks

Ward Hardwick Gunston Impey Dear and Moore were the standouts for me. Was really happy for Ward, he looked much more comfortable playing in the wet than a lot of guys from both teams.

Most of the game has been covered by everyone else but just wanted to chime in with an appreciation for wet weather footy. The game has always been played in these conditions and I hope Tassie says no to a roof tbh.

What a curmudgeonly assessment.
Disappointed Debbie Downer GIF by Team Coco

Impey not merely good, he was EXCELLENT. All game. Nothing cheap at all, worked his arse off.

Hardwick not just solid, he was granite hard, ruthless, efficient, so ultra reliable. In truth, he's as good a small defender as I've seen in our colors after watching the Hawks since 75'.

Lewis hardly disappointing, a great effort in the most unhelpful conditions you could ever imagine for a fella that size in his first game back. Managed to affect the team positively and it was exciting to see him and his massive frame out there for us.

Moore was maniacal. Created exceptional contest and drive all game. Outstanding effort from a player we really need that from.

Sicily was very good. Not merely not too bad, he was very good and grew throughout the game. Will give him enormous confidence. He has game changing ability that can rip a game apart if his magnificent right foot continues to improve.
How much better we can be if that happens.

Ginni plays as though he has no limitations. His efforts to affect the contest, be quick to create outnumbers and see the play unfolding before many others allows him to bring so many others into the game. He's become a glue guy, who'd have known THAT when he came across to us.

Take the whole freakin thing and prepare to continue growing into a team no other will want to see.
When the finals arrive the whips start cracking and our Club becomes Yul Brynner meets Steve McQueen.
Bring it ALL on.
agree - started to play with the style of the team at its best last year and agree re Sicily, as the game went on, really started to look like the best Sicily of old. I am a huge Scrim fan so great to see him back in the 1s and doing good things. Also so happy to see Moore (again a huge fan of his) getting back to form.

Josh Ward has been improving all season. Just when you think you've started to see where he might end up as a player, he lifts again.

Up until late in the last quarter, he was making the game look like it was being played on a warm, late September afternoon.

When our midfield is Newcombe, Day and Ward we're no longer predictable, one paced, or lacking in size.

Every one of them is a genuine playmaker, and you suspect all 3 will wind up A-graders.

That’s awful news for Finn. Get well soon!

Also,of course it’s a beautiful sunny winters day here in Hobart today! Not sure about Launceston, but conditions perfect for footy in Hobart today.

Finn played with a lacerated kidney yesterday, impressive.

In hospital right now, hopefully he recovers soon and is available for finals.
apparently when Dustin Martin had a lacerated kidney in 2021 he couldn't even exercise for 3 months.!!

Well depends on the severity of the laceration. The worst kind can require surgery or IR, and you can be out for more than 6 months.

I'm assuming that Martin had a deeper tear and just needed extended rest, hopefully that's not the same with Finn and at best is out for 4 weeks, at worst 6 weeks.

Finns was bad enough to require surgery so I wouldn’t expect to see him for the rest of the season.

Hope he can make a speedy recovery and we see him back in the brown and gold soon.

Also shoutout to the medical team for taking his pain seriously and sending him to hospital to get it checked out.

**** that sucks for Finn. We finally play him in his best role (and he ****ing nails it) and now it looks like it's curtains for his season.

AFL doctors are a lot different to a local GP. It's like comparing a F1 engineer to a local mechanic.

Do we underestimate the value of Hardwick in our team? Was fantastic AGAIN today.

Answering my own question, we don't but the wider footy world sure does. Tough, super reliable and highly skilled.
Love Dimma but have to say, the whole playing him forward experiment was a debacle. So good to have a guy who can reliably lock down the opposition's best small each week and also rebound with precision

If it was open surgery then yeah, he's not coming back this season.

Given it's reported that he'll be at least a few days in hospital, it's most likely that it was.

Last week Watson attended no centre bounces... Scores from CB0 0.0.0

This week he attended five, scores from centre bounces... 2.1.13
He absolutely storms through and causes chaos, and if he doesn’t get it, it’s pressure on, then the next play he has people hanging off him, he really looks like the difference in the centre

There’s been a few incidents at other clubs recently which is why I posted what I did.

I think we've gotten to the point where Ward > Worpel, unfortunately for worps but Ward has improved a lot this season. Ward might be our 3rd best midfielder. (Meek not included)

1 - Newc (more available than day)
2 - Day
3 - Ward??
Worps, Massimo, Nash also contenders for 3rd.
