Where and when: Adelaide Oval, Saturday, July 27, 7.10pm ACST

What it means for Port Adelaide: The Power (8-9) need a big turnaround to keep themselves in the hunt for the finals. They've lost three of their past four games to sit one win and percentage outside of the eight.

What it means for Greater Western Sydney: The Giants (10-7) are in the mix for a top-four berth after their outstanding win against Collingwood. They'll be keen to get a win in Heath Shaw's 300th game.

The stat: In three games against the Power at Adelaide Oval, the Giants hold a 2-1 advantage. Overall, the Giants have won their past four games against the Power to take a 5-4 lead since they first met in 2012.

The match-up: Tom Clurey v Jeremy Cameron

Another big test for Clurey, the No.1 Power key defender in the Official AFL Player Ratings, and 204th overall. Cameron (the Giants' No.1 key forward, and 91st overall) is leading the Coleman Medal race with 54 goals for the season, and booted six against Collingwood last week.

It's a big week for: Heath Shaw

The dual All Australian will be up for a big performance to celebrate his 300th-game milestone. Has been an outstanding contributor to the Giants since joining the club from Collingwood.

Land of the Giants preview:

I told you we would rise to the occasion.

Seriously, no-one saw that coming, especially Collingwood, who got a right royal bake from Buckley at quarter time. Let’s hope the win terminates a costly run of poor form and sweeps away the gloom and negative headlines.

It was quite something, looking at the match stats. Collingwood had 63 inside 50s to our 49, 54 hit outs to our 38, and (of course) 24 free kicks to our 14. There wasn’t that much difference anywhere else. Yet we belted them. So how did it happen?

It was clear we were “on” soon after the first bounce. Intensity, second efforts, playing for each other, it was all there. We didn’t have any passengers, everyone put their hand up. But overall, we were much quicker. We kept the ball moving forward all the time. The first thing that kids get taught, but you know what? It works.

IMHO, it’s not surprising this has all coincided with the debut of Ian Hill. “Bobby” has given the team a much-needed injection of spark and enthusiasm. Everyone loves him, he loves being out there, and he’ll only get better with experience. Keep the magic alive, Bobby. :thumbsu:

Now we go to Adelaide to face the inconsistent Power, who are coming off a lack-lustre loss to the Tigers. Sitting on 8 wins and 9 losses, they have to win this week to keep their finals hopes alive, so they will be desperate.

We’ll go over full of confidence. We’ve had the wood on Port for the past few years regardless of where we’ve played, and I don’t see any reason to think that might have changed. Complacency after euphoria will probably be our biggest challenge.

We got through the game unscathed (!), so it will be interesting to see what changes Leon makes, if that is possible. Will the same combination work against a different team? It will probably have to, because there’s no-one of note available to return from injury this week, and the NEAFL cupboard is just about bare.

Lift up your heads everyone. Things have changed.

I hope the boys are fired up - this is a real '8 point game' in the context of the ladder and the season. If we lose to Port who are in 9th position, they close to 4 points behind us (as well as allowing Hawks, Dockers & Dogs to do the same), while a win pushes us 12 points clear of them (and keeps at least an 8 point buffer over the other contenders just outside the 8). So a season-defining game for us, but similarly will have Port desperate to win at home. We'll need to be fired up, on song, and desperate.

LET'S GO GIANTS!!!

So, weirdest quarter of football I’ve ever seen.
Both teams aiming for the opposition with hand and foot.
I’ll have to watch the rest just out of morbid curiousity.

"Dumped after he got rid of it..."

...sure, but he got rid of it by throwing it looking at the replay.

That's not even counting the eye gouging on Mumford while he was on the ground.
