Largely due to the Suns crapping the bed and falling into the bottom 6 after the last round of 24, so I'm blaming them.
Atleast if the Suns remain top 6, they will be one of our top 6 double ups next year.

Will be nice to get a double up against a different bottom team for a change

Answerth's a big loss imo. He just keeps going whatever happens and rarely has an ordinary game. You wouldn't want to play on him. Just devastated for him as well, he doesn't deserve it ,but that's footy.
Indeed - especially the amount of work he put in to tidy up his game, make the team and secure a first team spot. Awesome achievement. Think he was one of the unsung heros of last year and the premiership - though not so much now as most in the industry/media realised his value when Starc was out.

Injuries and losing good players from the previous year are always a part of making the finals/Grand Final puzzle
After round 18 we sit 2nd (12.1.4 & 117%) on the ladder with some tough games to come.
Round 18 last year we were 4th (10.1.6 & 120%)

Which players have we gained and lost from the GF side last year to the possible named side v Dogs.
Rather than the usual in/out i will list the positions most likely in/out

DEFENSE
OUT: Payne, Answerth
IN: Gardiner, Fletcher (from wing)

MIDFIELD/WING/RUCK
Midfield: The same.

Wing
OUT: Fletcher (to defense)
IN: Levi Ashcroft

Ruck: If Fort named it is the same. If Oscar is named, he becomes an IN. I don't think we play both this week.

FORWARD
Out: Daniher
IN: Day

Bench 4 are the same

SUB: was McKenna for the GF he may get the gig this week but i think it will be Reville.

From all of the above Daniher is the standout in player replacement difference.
We have been without him all year though.

AFL proven very good players waiting in the VFL: Coleman & Doedee absent from last year's finals/grand final.

Bailey will be back in a week or play if his appeal is successful so not an injury as such.

Remember the days when Melbourne sold a home game to the Gabba for a few years until the AFL stepped in and cited concerns around competition integrity? Good times
Yep.

And now NM can sell home games to the WA teams to play them at Optus.

Everything that goes around comes around.

Given ladder positions would there be incentive for the crows not to accurately report the circumstances around Butts' injury to help out the Bulldogs playing us this week?

That 2002 "away" loss to them after throwing away a 39 point lead was possibly the angriest I've been at the end of a game, at least until probably the first game against the Suns.

Harmes still needs to prove his fitness after battling illness, while Gallagher suffered a further setback with bone stress found in his foot. Veteran Liam Jones should come under consideration for Friday night’s game against Brisbane at the Gabba, while Jedd Busslinger, Buku Khamis and Luke Cleary are other options for the Dogs. Michael Sellwood has been building towards a debut, but didn’t get another chance to impress with Footscray having the bye. – Josh Gabelich

The Lions will make a few changes to face the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba on Friday night with Answerth and Bailey both unavailable from the team that defeated Carlton. Darcy Gardiner could come into the 22 to fill Answerth's defensive role, while Keidean Coleman will also be considered after returning from a quad injury through the VFL last week. Sam Day was unavailable for personal reasons and should come back into the forward line, at the expense of either Darcy Fort or Oscar McInerney, while Bruce Reville, Will McLachlan and Conor McKenna will all vie for Bailey's spot. – Michael Whiting
