'Carn the... what are we called again? It's been so long. 'Carn the Lions? Nah that doesn't sound right. 'Carn the Loins?

The link below is a very good assessment of the Lions 2019 season by a North supporter leading into the first final against Richmond

Talks about a season of two halves and how we changed things up after two losses. One Collingwood the other Carlton.
A couple of short videos on how things worked and did not work.
With 2020 such a broken up season it was a reminder that Fagan did make changes to game plan a few times during the season.
After a struggling Carlton smashed us in contested possession before the bye and Patrick Cripps got 9 brownlow votes for one game.
We also lost contested possession v Hawks round 1

This was the result after the bye in 2019 - copied from the article

BrisbaneRound 1-12RankRound 14-23Rank

Scores conceded per inside 5044.01%15th39.06%2nd

A couple of other notes from article.

"Part of Brisbane’s contested dominance can be attributed to how well their midfield moves as a collective around stoppages"

"The longer the season has gone, the more Brisbane like to move it around the boundary and conservatively. But when they were able to get on top in the stoppages and then look to move the ball forward as quickly as possible, Geelong’s handbrake disappeared, and the Lions stormed home with their new-found advantage".

"Hipwood hasn’t quite taken the next step yet. It’s a guarantee to happen eventually, so there shouldn’t be any panic stations, but as it relates to the now – he’s only kicked more than two goals in a game twice this year".

Only once this year....PFFFFTTTT!.

Hippy and McStay both look strong - if they take another step along with Rayner, you'd think we'll have another year on top of the scoring tree. A lot of firepower in:

Rayner Hipwood Cameron
Zorko McStay McCarthy

The thing is that on their day they can be so destructive. However they are inconsistent. McCarthy goes missing quite a bit. McStay might only get 1 goal a game. Zorko might get a goal a game. Rayner didn't have a good 2nd year. Hipwood usually bobs up for 1-2 goals a game. Cameron was our main scorer, usually got 2-3 goals a game. If they can improve their consistency and not have to rely on the midfielders and Cameron getting goals then we should be a lot more higher scoring.

Love how much youth we're playing - not because we have to, but because they've earned their spots. Bodes well for our future.

GO LIONS!
The young players in the team have to be a motivating factor for the older players and more established players also. We saw how Hodge got a new lease of life at the Lions and I am expecting Birchall (32 yrs) and Zorko’s (31 yrs) to really get a lift out of our current squad. Also, some people had largely written Ryan Lester off, but at 27 years of age, with nine seasons and under his belt and 126 senior games, he is just what our side needs. He is a smart footballer, a great utility player, will run all day and is a loyal club man. He is set to blossom over the next few years. Just watch.

I am thinking we will be like Geelong last night.
Lost the first round and come out firing in round 2 (albeit 12 weeks later) and make a statement.
Lions by 40+🦁

...wish I could be as confident as you! Hope you are right though.

Like ceebee, my tummy is starting to do its normal flutters before a game.
