I think some people need to chill on the Finn hype, we really have no idea how close he is to a debut.

He didn't even play a pre season game and has had no chances really to prove worthy of selection since. I love the kid and maybe he is tearing it up and ready to be named against the Cats... But i doubt it

Hmm maybe he played the unofficial one against the Saints? Definitely didn't play the Marsh Cup game.

You would have thought he would have been given more opportunity in the pre season games if Clarko felt he was close to a debut though.

Can confirm he played a half in the praccy vs St. Kilda. I'm really sad I only listened to that game on radio because from the radio our younger guys sounded really impressive (it wasn't televised). Finn & Day played in the second half and did reasonably well, some good moments and good ball movement from both of them. Finn almost nailed a classy snap. If we're basing it solely off that game then Cousins & Jones are still ahead in the pecking order. Weirdly enough Minchington was one of the most impactful players that game and was delisted a week later.

Without the Finn "hype" - I would like to say that it would be good to see him in the side for some of his specific qualities. He has pace, he has endurance, he can tackle and his forward craft is decent enough.

It'd be good to see him start in a similar capacity to Worps the other year.

An exaggeration by me. Has kicked goals for them when pushing forward against us. But McEvoy has generally beaten him in the ruck quite easily.

He always seems to pop up for exasperating F50 marks that he never seems to take in any other game.

Would be a fair debut for the kid. A lifelong Hawk and gets to take on the Cats. Imagine he spends some time on Gaz?! Shades of their fathers in 89.

Who plays Ceglar or M.Lewis ? Can they both play in the same side with a TOB?
Mcevoy & Patton are walk up starts, Is Cegs the #1 or Is Mcevoy #1 and pushing back in def, Cegs or Lewis as the 2nd ruck / fwd with Patton.
The plan was for Bigboy to play in defence before the reduced quarters will that change a lil?
Where does TOB fit into the puzzle

any news on how many players will be on the bench? I personally believe atleast 6 on the bench and unlimited interchanges to prevent injuries.

Ive seen a few premier clubs request having 9 on the bench

Mitch MUST play, if fit. He's ahead of ToB. Cegs 1st ruck, BB down back.

I think it’s a bit smoke n mirrors with JOM. Gut feel is that he will play. If not, I would love to see Harry debut. Cuz appears most likely as next in and fair enough - the best credentialed of the up and coming mids

I actually took that photo! 😅

From memory at that game, the St Kilda team was a very inexperienced team and we were that bit more experienced, the young boys came on when the game was well over. We might have had a bigger squad and they played only 22.
And I was surprised also when Minchington came on and had an impact and then was delisted.

Wouldn’t be opposed to Finn being thrown in for a game early. Our last elite runner who came up against a Geelong team early in his career turned out pretty well.

Really hope that Jaeger can get up, he'd be a pretty big loss if he doesn't.
It doesn’t look like Jack Stevens will be getting up either but I agree with Noel Gallagher above in that it’s all smoke an mirrors and that he’ll play. Pending how many your allowed to have on the bench I wouldn’t be surprised to see a selection surprise with Finn making his debut:

INS
Hardwick, Maginness

OUTS
Morrison, O’Hanrahan

The back six is too tall and slow. Hopefully with Hardwick and Impey back soon this will fix this issue.

One option would be to have Henderson and Scully on the two wing positions, with Smith moving to the half back flank.

If Frawley and Frost are occupying the two key defensive posts, then what’s the purpose of playing McEvoy in defence? Sicily and Scrimshaw can also play tall.

That'd be pretty sweet

Not too bothered about the back six being too tall. McEvoy can cover the width of the 50 in three strides at that tin can, and he's no slower than Harry Taylor.

Besides McEvoy, I'm not sure we're even that slow back there anyway. Frawley has lost some but has always had toe, Frost is lightning, Sicily ran a 2.84 20m in his draft year. As far as playing on smalls goes, Stratts is a specialist so he's not going to get exploited.

I think if you look at how to quell small forwards in recent times, you don't do it with small defenders. You do it with tall defenders that have some pace; Grimes, Stratton and Rampe spring to mind.

Look at how Geelong have thrived there over recent years - their back 6 ain't exactly short.
