Review Round 2, 2021: Box Hill Hawks v Northern Blues, 24th April 2021, 2pm @ BHCO

Jeka has an unusual body shape. He has normal length legs but a very long torso.

He does one thing the Hawthorn forwards don't do. He leads; and leads; and leads.

Probably why he will never get a game. Our forwards point to the sky and get pushed under the drop zone. Preferably allow the oppo 3rd man to intercept mark it.

He’s in a rich vain of form. How long can they ignore him for tried and failed forwards ahead of him.

Impressive effort to run away with it in the last qtr as we only had two on the bench for the entire second half. Brockman off early and Bramble didn't emerge from the rooms after half time.

Plus we were the walking wounded with Phillips (ankle), Reeves (knee), Newcombe (wrist) & Saunders (foot) all playing hurt in the last qtr.

Jeka was brilliant. Got plenty of ball up the ground (20 disp, 9 marks), drilled passes off the left and right, kicked his 5 and could have had at least a couple more. He didn't seem to mind the wet either.

Other than him it was a pretty even effort. Mynott and Newcombe consistent, Bramble's first half, Adduci's second half, the most notable.

Thought Reeves got better with his taps in the second half, and as a result we started winning the clearances more often. He does the occasional gather, dummy and and dish that look remarkably competent for someone his size.

Morris a very quiet, fumbly game. Greaves dour, Pepper solid defensively. Brooksby was Brooksby-like. Did some ok things.

Hartley, Cousins, Maginness and Downie all missed - Box Hill playing before HFC names their team is a pain.

One of the radio commentaors gave Bramble a vote and said something like 'even though he didn't do much in the last quarter' so it sounds like he played the game out just maybe ran out of steam late in the game.
Bramble hamstring was iced up but walked out with the boys after the siren

Make Gunston come back via BoxHill.
Who does he think he is ?
He’s no TOB !
Earn your stripes soldier.
What's interesting now with Jeka playing 4 really good games compared to those getting selected. Is Gunston started his Hawthorn career at Box Hill kicked 7 once and was straight into a top 4 Hawthorn side containing Franklin and Roughead.

7,6,3 + 5 for Jeka. Being held out by O'Brien who never did anything like that at boz Hill or hawthorn and when dropped got his spot back without playing.

That’s really not that surprising.

We have O’Brien as our sole experienced forward. Lewis has been hit and miss so far.

When Gunston debuted we had two experienced and consistent star forwards ahead of him to take the heat.

21 in 4 is a seriously good month, really hoping he's playing at Marvel next Saturday when we face the Saints.

What's going on with Greaves this season ? Looked decent late last year but it seems he's going pretty meh in the magoos ATM?

Could be a confidence thing, he's obviously been tasked with improving his defensive efforts and that's what is keeping him there.

Why is experience relevant when it is just experience in underperming and dropping marks.

Not sure if this a serious question or not.

Getting a game as the third banana behind Franklin and Rough is not the same as getting one behind Timmy O and Lewis.

Rough and Franklin commanded a lot of attention, making it somewhat easier for Gunston.

Actually 6, 5, 3 +5.

And if you want to go back further, it's 3, 0, 3, 6, 5, 3 +5.

Good numbers. But it's all about the mix. With Kosi getting his 5 today, I reckon Jeka's going to have to just keep going about his business in the twos until they just can't ignore him. Can really recommend getting to Box Hill games to see him. Super talent.

Such a shame that a developing player like Donwie didn't get to play somewhere.
