I reckon just keep playing Chesser.

He might as well get a season ending injury with the seniors than in the WAFL when it will eventually happen based on history.

100% this.. let him learn no point dropping him whilst still playing the likes of Hurn who shouldn’t be playing

Ch
Nobody dropping Chesser?

I'm all for playing the kids but not when they are clearly not up to scratch with AFL footy and at the moment Chesser looks waaaay off.

5 touches, 1 contested, 1 tackle in an entire game of footy against a pretty young team in Norf. Compare how Ginbey and Long adapted to this fella.

Get Hewett in his place and let Chesser do something in the WAFL first to justify his selection.

Other than that

OUT - Jamieson, XON, Witherden.
Chesser didn't do enough in the practice matches to get a game and it is no surprise that he struggled today. Needs to go back to WAFL until he can consistently get 20+ disposals.

Clark looked a lot better than him on the wing. Bring him in next week.

"Tim, this is your 3rd year on our list. We have been patient, but there are expectations you are just not meeting and we are sending you back to the WAFL to work on a few things"

Only to be met with a reply of:
"Listen Simmo, you've been allowing Gaff and Sheed to cruise around in 2nd gear for years now and you want to have a go at me?
I stepped into the culture you allowed to creep in after the 2018 premiership and it ruined my personal game that developed at Geelong.
You literally had players getting fatter each year and did nothing for 3 years. You allowed a non-contested, non-tackling apathetic game style to form in what was the AFLs best list.
So sure, whatever, send me to the WAFL - but everyone knows there are players that deserve to be sent there ahead of me. I'm hardly the problem around here.
Plus, also while we're at it - the new club song absolute SUUUUUUUUUCKS and everyone knows it."

Did lol with Sheed as our backup ruck. If we’re playing to maximise winning percent, drop a ruck.

We should be playing to maximise development, so genuinely just persist with blindly pumping games into both Jamo and Bailey, just in case the slightest slightest breakthrough occurs. Shit viewing but that’s what this season is.

In: Hough, Culley
Out: Witherden (so irrelevant today), Exxon (a bit stiff, grew into it and I’m itching to see Culley)

The problem seems to be that we have too many guys who are either
1. Not up to it, or
2. The game has passed them by.

And the options we have to replace them are either
2. Not up to it, or
2. Not ready

We really need to look at where we are, where we want to get to and how we're going to get there.

Do we bite the bullet with guys (just an example) like Gaff. Should never play inside and right now is a momentum killer with the ball and too slow to be effective defensively. Do we basically admit he has no defensive side and direct him to be the link AND to only look forward when being used. And to play on or else. Or do we go with a wing setup of two of Hough, Chesser, Witherden, Hunt etc.

"Simpson declared big man Nic Naitanui was unlikely to face Greater Western Sydney next Sunday as he works through Achilles soreness."

I seriously can't believe the club is going to do this tantric will he/won't he bullshit again for another few months. Is everyone going to just ignore the fact he was apparently doing a fitness test to try to get up this week and now is at least two weeks away with 'soreness'

I'll save them some time.

Nic's legs, knees ankles and feet are shot. They call it soreness or hotspots or stress fractures or a gypsy curse or whatever they want but it comes down to the same thing. His legs are shot because he is too ****ing heavy to play the style of football he plays. He can't even get through a preseason much less a season. I'm sure he will play some games this year, maybe even some very good games, but then after a few weeks he'll get injured again because his legs knees ankles and feet are shot. Because he's too ****ing heavy.

It is truly pointless to keep pretending that he's our first ruck choice and he's just having rough trot with injuries and soon it will all come good. At this point there is probably more chance of Coxxy making a comeback and playing a full season than nicnat suddenly kicking that ever so mysterious, ever so unlucky run of foot/ankle/leg/knee injuries.

Which sucks but is there really any reason for the club to go through the ridiculous charade that he might suddenly become available. Do they think anyone is remotely fooled? Or at this point are they fooling themselves because the alternative is just to accept the nicnat era is over and we desperately need to build a midfield that isn't reliant on him.

Choosing to give him a two year contract and not try to, eg, use the money to match port's offer for Rioli was such a bad call.

I’ve just watched Bailey Williams, Callum Jamieson and Dom Sheed (!) lose a ruck duel against a North side without a ruckman.

I’ll take five games of Nic Nat and some will he/won’t he drama I reckon.

I understood an improved offer was made to Rioli to no avail.

While you could argue even more of NN’s $ could have been thrown at Rioli - Rioli owed us.

Other than that your points are valid. Probably shows WCE recognise their ruck division is on life support with NN, with NN maybe just critical.

I reckon every debutant should get 2

Might be more than 5
I would suggest it absolutely would be. He's covered up some glaring holes in the midfield and ruck division for so long, I don't mind if we stretch ourselves further with him than we ideally would. Bailey and Jamo will get enough action to develop, there's arguments that rucking them all year will do them more harm than good, and our mids deserve to have at least some games where they're a fraction of a chance to get first hands to the ball.

Five more years for all I care.

I know Bailey spudded it up towards the end there but lets be real he didn't actually lose the ruck duel. He had 3 times the hitouts of anyone else on the ground. A lot of the oppo hitouts came against Sheed, Darling, Jamo and who ever else had a crack.

He was comprehensively flogged by Xerri until he went off injured then was largely ineffective against a third gamer and a midfielder in norths ruck….

Ad that to his complete slowness in hand to feet, inability to mark or direct his hit outs to anyone, his great goal line spoil and the complete mental breakdown at the last throw in he was in the worst half of eagles players on the ground .

I'm with Badge in that this year is a development year. Wins and losses don't matter. Play both of Williams and Jamo with a view to taking one forward.

I don't think XON did anything wrong per se but it doesn't make sense playing him if he's not going to get involved.

Playing Hough as a defender makes sense so bring him in for Witherden, if fit.

Gaff is the obvious one to come out for me. Give his spot to XON, Petrucelle, whoever. We have enough depth that everyone should be playing two positions a game unless you're a KPF/KPD.

Plenty to drop before Chesser. Gaff, Duggan, the rest of the mids were mediocre at best. Same old defence that are far to slow to compete against decent forward lines.
Chesser had 5 disposals. 5! He did absolutely nothing.

What's the point in giving him another game when he is clearly not ready. It will just kill his confidence. Let him spend a few months in the WAFL to learn how to find the ball.

Out: Gaff O’Neill Witherden Chesser
In: Culley Hewett Petrucelle Hough

Cole Barrass Hurn
Jones McGovern Duggan
Kelly Sheed Hunt
Cripps Darling Petrucelle
Ryan Allen Long

Ruck: Williams Ginbey Shuey

Int: Hewett (FWD)

Delist him now lol.

How many effective disposals did Ryan have, or Gaff or most of them? I havnt bothered looking at the stats but Gaff and Ryan did almost nothing effective as well. Can add a list of names to that list. Cripps, Duggan, Sheed may have racked up a few meaningless possessions but wasnt noticeable.

Chesser would get more games if i was in charge. Also would bring in Hough for probably Witherden. Culley for Oneil. Unfortunately we have nothing else really.
