Barnett is still 2 preseasons away from rucking at AFL level. He had a good offseason but is years away. Last year he was playing at the level of a WAFL reserves player. This year hopefully he can put a full year in and by the end of it be WAFL league quality. The following year he can start to dominate the WAFL and play some AFL for his development before the following year being ready to go as a secondary ruck who can play well around the ground and hold down a part time KP spot.

Ruckmen unless they are absolute units when they arrive or are generational talents like NicNat aren't ready to play afl and win their position for 5 years.

The Darling bashing and overreaction from round 1 is getting ridiculous.

Yeo yesterday gave a pretty good insite. Our midfield was getting smashed and when we got the ball we didnt use it well enough.

Oscar was obviously playing injured and couldnt compete. So Darling was being double teamed as well.

He always has been undersized and CHF is the most difficult position to play on the ground. Especially with crap supply, getting double teamed with no other tall forward taking defenders away.

Not difficult to identify all those factors is it?
No, not after it's been revealed by Yeo. There we have it...good post, some truth. He's often double teamed also, and had some of the best defence around him..besides we need him now, he 'aint going nowhere.

With Oscar out, it is the ideal time to expose our only developing Key Forward to some game time. J Williams has to come in.
BBW is doing well in the ruck, Barnett, Livingstone, Jamo are all big downgrades. BBW is also not a Key Forward- he is a big 3rd forward with iffy kicking. Maric is a tall flanker come 3rd tall- not a KPF.
Barrass had a shocker last week but he is not a forward of any sort and has iffy kicking.
Jamo is a down grade on him in the backline where the ball will spend most of the day leaving Barrass to float around lost in the forward line like a stale bottle of piss.
Don't over think it, don't rob Peter to pay Paul and don't weaken 2 other lines to put in an, at best, part timer up forward.
Just select our next in line genuine KPF and give him a couple of months to develop. It could be the silver lining to the OA injury.

We all know Barnett is still a at least another preseason away before he is ready for the AFL. But exposing him to a few AFL games can only accelerate his knowledge and understanding of what is required to compete at AFL level. Our ruck stocks are badly depleted barnett could be used off the bench to pinch hit in the ruck.

Yeah lets not risk Barrnet and allow him to get a solid run in the WAFL.

Id rather we took the punt with JWilliams to be that roaming tall and keep Darling in the sqaure.
Darling up the ground is just asking for defeat. So depressing seeing us boot it long to him on the wing while he gets double teamed and inevitably loses the contest.

J.Williams FF, Darling CHF, Waterman 3rd tall.

It's a good chance for J.Williams to show what he's made of.

Ryan coming back in the next couple weeks should help as well.

Barrass to the fwd line. At least he can take a contested grab with our kick and hope forward entries, and won't be torn a new one by pacier forwards again. Jamieson and Gov to be the KPD's.
Barrass took one grab from a gazillion inside 50s last week. Plus he absolutely hoofs it like a defender. Can we just settle and go J.Williams? Sheesh. Also we don’t want the kick and hope, let’s aim to tidy that up too. It’s been a week people, and we had one injury after the game! Setttllllllllleeeeeee

He will get games at some point this year but let him learn the craft at a lower level for at least the first half of the year.

You know there is only about 6 weeks difference in their age? In addition Williams probably has to play key forward

Tom Barrass to FF.

Darling to midfield.

Harley Reid to FB.

Burgiel to coach.

Not too fussed on which young player gets the opportunity play forward they will all benefit from the opportunity, and let’s be honest they are going to see the ball approximately half the time of the opposition teams forward line, and will probably get more of the ball in the WAFL.
Our focus should really be on giving young talent in and around the midfield a run. The sooner we get 50 games into Reid, Hall, Burgiel, Trew, Chesser, Long, Ginbey, Hewett, etc rotating through the midfield the better, it’s a shame we didn’t start with that philosophy in RD1.
It’s where the games won and lost and we need to address that ASAP, obviously losing Flynn sucks.
I actually don’t think our list is as bad as other people think it is, I think providing opportunities is a good start point.

Barnett played a good wafl practice match but it was against and undermanned perth .

He really needs a good block of wafl against real opposition to start the season .

Bailey just needs to play ruck and jamerson was surprisingly good when he rucked so let's let those 2 gel for a few weeks .

Jwilliams is our next best young key forward where as maric is more like Waterman in that 3rd forward hard running utility type.

Really need JWilliams to hit the packs and bring the ball to ground

Nah.

That was just Chesser's first game playing with his new bestie Harley.

Reckon Harley will drag a few of the kids with him. Other kids see him cracking in and impacting would help with their confidence and shows them young players can lead the way.

The kids need to take over.
I agree with this. Harley has an aura that’s gonna push the other kids to wanna work hard to play alongside him. He’s got a fair bit of mongrel in him and that BSD energy from being a number 1 rated draft prospect and then eventual number 1 pick.
Just imagine how much BSD energy is gonna be on field when Hewitt and Harley get on the park together? People are gonna get knocked out over the fence from big swinging d’s… 😂
