I saw a premiership cup, but I didn’t see the the flag. Do our premiership flags fly at the Gabba for our home games?

Credit to the Eagles for coming out firing and getting a good lead.
They never gave up all day, but being a young side they tired in that last quarter.

A good hit out for next week and probably better than inflicting a 10-goal flogging.
The conditions would have been hot and draining for the players. Noon 28.5 C, 1pm 30 C & 2pm 30 C
The boys will know their best is required to beat the Cats who will remember that PF loss.

I am so happy we did not play Geelong round 1.
If we did i think we could have easily been 0-2.
Then a win over Eagles so 1-2 going into a bye which i don't like early in the season.
That extra week although interrupted gave us a better chance to beat Sydney away and we did.

With another run under our belt and playing at the Gabba it could be 3-0. Hoping so anyhow.
We were defiantly rusty again but got better as the game wore on.

Won't give my bests as i like to watch the replay to come to a conclusion

About 3 mins into this post.

My daughter was disappointed also not seeing the flag unveiled.
The reason was it was behind us and a little to the right so out of sight.
She realized that after she did some social media searching.

You have to love a comeback win. Ten goals to three in the 2nd half, I will take that any game of the season. We need to start better, but that will come with more games under our belt. It’s easy to underestimate teams, but the competition is even, just look at North and St Kilda’s performance this week. Happy to bank the 4pts.

Day competes well in the ruck, he set up one goal with a hit out and was involved in a couple of other goals. He played his role today and I think he’ll get better.

Felt like we were in neutral and our atrocious skills on top didn't help. Wasn't overly concerned as I was pretty sure WCE would struggle to run out the game and they looked pretty cooked by 3 quarter time. Equally, the lack of forward pressure without Kai and Charlie was noticeable.

Feels like there is little to learn in the first four or so rounds of the AFL.

Was surprised Allen doesn't already have a goal song. Sad.

Really, really, really shouldn’t play early afternoon games in northern climes at this time of year. Yucky, stinky foot-ball.
Hopefully the AFL will learn something from today and never repeat this time slot for us in March.
It was uncomfortable in the stands and a lot of players were out on their feet. It will be interesting to see how players from both sides perform in coming weeks

Sure we'll be on to it. Plus players having soreness issues after a couple of red hot games after a less taxing pre season.

I can't help thinking we had one eye on next week's blockbuster when we ran out there today.

I may be well off the mark. My thoughts are we cannot go back to back with Sam Day playing in the team. And yes I know its round 2. It just makes us so reboundable.

In what world is there space in modern football for a player like Sam Day. I'm not concerned about the fumbles, I'm sure he'll fix those up. You cannot afford to be that immobile unless you're exceptional ala Tom Hawkins or Jesse Hogan. Which he is not. At least Hipwood is mobile and can tackle if he wants to.

Fort is much more mobile and I'd rather get games into Gallop once he learns some ruck craft in the ressies.

I wasn't expecting a replacement for Joe, as no one can, but I dont like what I've seen in the pre season games and today purely on movement.

Not great spectating either. Almost slid off my plastic seat I was sweating so much

You don’t win flags early in the season. A few tight games early should be good for later in the season. As premiers every team will be trying to beat us. That’s just part of being the best. A win is a win and that was a good win in the end.
Go Lions 🦁🦁

It is tough because it is his first game, blistering heat, start of the season and our two top end smalls who provide a lot of forward pressure are out. Old mate McGovern was also on Day for quite a lot of the day which is a big plus as Day competed well in that respect. No doubt he isn't quick, but I'd like to see a few more weeks as we don't have anyone else with the mature body + forward craft combo.

There's some truth in that but we need to see how he goes over a few weeks seeing he's our preferred option.

Today convinced me 3KZ is a genius. Lester was outstanding and when everyone was showing him the door a few years ago he stuck by him and saw what most of us couldn’t.
What kept you? I convinced myself I was a genius years ago. 😉

I guess there's 2 ways to stop being rebounded against, don't let them win it in the air and pressure them.

I think Day was outmarked once. He also set up several goals. He'll be a McStay type this year and we know the relentless whipping he received on this board before he left

Also his dad died less than 2 weeks ago. Not ideal prep

thought he was fine enough really. hipwood and morris should be the mobile guys. if day can play a role in at least bringing the ball to ground in our forward 50 and giving oscar a chopout in the ruck that should suffice whilst we hunt for the daniher replacement.

I agree we keep him in for a month, I feel we're just going to see the experiment through just for the sake of it, likely knowing it'll fail. I agree he will stand out less when the other 2 are in the team, but its still an issue regardless.

The frog is like a fine wine. Excellent at reading the state of the game and doing what is required. That run down tackle lifted the whole team.

If he has the ability to even play a more negating role on the oppo best key defender and stop intercept marks that’ll go a long way. But whether he is physically up to it we shall see.

A broken clock is right...... only kidding
