Autopsy Round 2, 2025: Positives and Negatives vs Brisbane

I just saw the last quarter but we just can't find space. Why do we always pass it to someone surrounded by opposition players? Why do players always feel the need to break tackles? We have no structure and system that I can see anyway.

I can't fault the effort, but I actually think it's the fact we're weirdly competitive at the Gabba even when we've been bad. I hope it's more than that though and we are better.
We were out all over the place in the first 2 quarters.

Not being able to find space is just fatigue and being unfamiliar with the humid conditions.

Right now I think what happens in Q1 is far more imprtant than what happens in Q4.

That game felt like the 18GF but reverse for us

5 goal start.

oppo slowly come back

still tight middle of 4th

Only difference is lions kicked straight(5.4) in 18 we kicked 3.6

felt like we deserved an easier win in 18 than we made it

Should have won by 4-5 goals in the end. We were dominant after half time, in terms of I50 and around the ball.

Funny that if we had lost, we’d think of that as the one we let slip from inaccuracy (5 extra shots).

Reading the comments from the lions about how hard the conditions were and how they haven't had a match there in that time slot for 20 years because of the heat and humidity makes what we did seem even better.
You could say Brissy knew it was going to zap them so they didn't go too hard early which allowed us to jump them.

It also makes you wonder why they would put a team on the longest road trip who finished 3rd last against the reigning premiers in the toughest time slot for conditions that they haven't scheduled a game in in 20 years.
Or does it.

Simmo made it sound like the time slot was probably in line with requests from us generally to play such fixtures early to allow us to pack up and get back home.

If that's the case the AFL have listened and are trying to accommodate us, but there needs a little more consideration given. Don't accommodate us with a kick off time but then schedule that long road trip at the hottest, most humid part of the year (Damien Barratt saying it was 99% humidity).

Play other teams against Lions at home early in the season who are not facing the huge travel burden, where you can start the game later on.

We'll take our medicine and continue with our annual Gabba fixture but a little common sense says we can play the game both early and in better suited conditions, not one or the other.

watched the 4th quarter again last night.......
He hardly gets mentioned (even though he was part of the Sheed goal), but geez Vardy was good. Couple of clunks, a goal (after the pies kicked 2 straight at the start of the QTR). Was good across the full game, but his 4th was underrated IMO

Been a busy week. Hopefully will get around to writing up some of my notes and thoughts on this game against Brisbane sometime soon.

For what it's worth, H.Reid flipped the bird to the crowd on at least one other occasion during the game - with 8:39 left in the 2nd quarter prior to a boundary throw-in in the forward pocket. On the broadcast, the camera just misses it, but you can hear the crowd's reaction.

Right next to the umpire who happens to be looking in the opposite direction.
