Yep needs a good run at it. Wasn’t going to walk back in and be a superstar. Continuity now is his (and our) friend
Even Rowell who is a star needed 12+ months to get back into it. He will be very important imo going forward

So not D'Ambrosio because he has a good kick, and not Butler because he has strong tackles and kicks goals.

Which other midfielder would make way for Day? MacKenzie? Ward? MacDonald? Nash?

Maybe Day could play in the backline. Would you rather drop Scrimshaw? Amon? Impey?

He could play up forward, so do you drop Lewis? Perhaps Chol?

It's gotta be someone, unless you just leave him out of the side.

Who makes way for Day..?
Reeves or Meek

Not sure what the comparison really is?

Day ORRRR Butler
Uh..... DAY

Butler is a nice developing player who delivers nice team stuff.
But he hasn't shown yet he can gather high damaging disposal numbers, orrrr kick enough goals forward himself.

I mean, I really like the kid.
But Day, All Day, Ever Day, until my Dying Day.

No point having the discussion. It's rare to go into any game unchanged from the previous game.

When Day is available for selection, someone in the current line up will not be, or will be dropped. 2x rucks and 3x tall fowards, 4x tall/medium backs has worked but it may not in the future and we want 1 less.

Hawthorn v Sydney

9 Jai Newcombe (HAW)
7 Tom Barrass (HAW)
6 Dylan Moore (HAW)
6 Jack Gunston (HAW)
1 Jack Ginnivan (HAW)
1 Brodie Grundy (SYD)

Do we ever find out which coach votes which?

I wonder who gave TB the 5 and who the 2? Also think Grundy was robbed, single handily kept them in it imo

firstly, Day needs to be fit and ready for selection
secondly, at that particular time, Hawks have to have ZERO injuries to their current starting line up.

I very much doubt any of the current 23 will miss when Day comes back in. Would love to think so, but it is very doubtful we don't get any midfield injuries between now and round 14.

So, not sure I'd stress or argue anything about that at this stage.

Ok no injuries yes indeed.

When day comes back, someone's gotta make room or be out injured it's just how these things work.

If you line them up nobody is going to argue with that choice.

But it won't be a midfielder coming out for him first up I don't reckon. I'm not a coach, or in touch with his strength and conditioning team, but it seems likely that he comes back to a flank or will play more limited minutes.

First there's injury creating a place, and they always come at some stage. Then there's the dual rucks, then peripheral players or those who aren't performing or showing they're where they are expected to be.

That's not Butler right now.
