Im going ....you ripper!
This game should be tough, hard and accountable.

With family day approaching we could do well to get back on the horse ( as Goodwin puts it) and flog it across the line.

Remember we were in it in the third quarter last time we met on thier dung heap.

Players who need to lift

McLeod - As over rated as I think he is, he needs to concentrate on the ball not his tag and the crowd will do the rest.

Burton - Will lift if hes played in the fwd lines but when will he be let loose.

Hentscehl - Must play in the backline where his confidence germinated a couple of games back- Benny will be a huge hole.

Dogga - Had a purple patch last week but to play at this level its got to be more than a half a quarter - Gags may replace him in the side

Line-up

With no likely matchup for Kenny forward, let's try him at CHF. Bit of doubt over Roo, so start him across FF with Macca to spend most of the game on the ball to show us that he still has it. Feeling a bit radical...

B: Smart, Hentschel, Gallagher
HB: Torney, Bassett, Massie
C: Reilly, Goodwin, Burton
HF: Welsh, McGregor, Johncock
F: Bode, Carey, Ricciuto
R: Clarke, Edwards, McLeod
I: Biglands, Perrie, Doughty, Schuback
E: Hudson, S Stevens, Burns

IN: Gallagher, Torney, Schuback
OUT: Hart (inj), Stenglein (inj), Shirley

Kenny on Leppa thank you very much. Hound would get murdered by Pike. Lets not forget Hounds limits. His turning circle is no the best going around and Pikey will expose him. Torney on Pike would be a better match up I reckon.

The story is that out of Roo and Hart, Roo is more doubtful.

Biglands would be a very lucky man to hold his spot. His form so far this year (including pre-season) has not been very good. Having said that I think he will still be in the side because of his versatility.

Talking of Biglands, he was a guest in the studio on 5AA today and he made a point about how they played as a ruckman. In the past the role of the ruckman at the AFC was as he said it a run with role where you followed your man and not let then take marks and block your space in the forward line. This year we are trying to mix it up. We would be playing more of kick behind the play style but there will be times when we mix it up. I must admit this was noticable in pre-season games.

However, I must raise a question. Whats the point of playing kick behind the play whne you don't have ruckman who can mark the ball well. Biglands and Hudson might be able to play this role but playing Clarke in that role would be as useless as tits on the bull. He played that role a little bit against Kangas and the only thing he did was bring the ball tothe ground for Roos crumbers.

I reckon Hudson would be a very handy player to have against Lions because he will crash into bodies and make 2nd and 3rd efforts on the ground not to say that he is a much better mark than other 2.

On a holiday :(

I think Ayres will bring in Burns for this match. Ronnie kicked 4 for the magpies last week and is the sort of player that Lions struggle against (when he is in form that is). I think Ronnie is a very good chance to get a game.

Do we have anybody to nullify Pike?
I think Ayres still has Ronnie very much in his plans for this year.

Pike is a very interesting one. I woud go with Torney or Massie. Maybe even Smart

Torney's the man. Very good match up in all areas for him.

Please read this Gary and don't put Perrie on Pike as your stroke of genius for the day!!

This may be Massies year.
Hes promised a lot since his Carlton move and has a go Ill say that about him!

Pike moves in two paths. Outwide as a running receiver off the HBF and as a "chop out player".

We need to get in his face

:D

The only question mark with Torney is that he might not be ready just yeT. He was on 5AA a couple of weeks ago and he said that he is a couple of weeks behind th erest and will probably not play at AFL until round 3 or so.

From all reports he was fantastic for South on the weekend. If Torns is ready I think he is a perfect match up for Pike. You don't want a KPP on Pike because he would kill him with his mobility and you don't want and ordinary midfielder on him either becaue he will beat him in the air.

Would Bassett be in danger of getting dropped because I can't see a match up for him??????

I think Massie's form last year was fantastic. Carlton fans are spewing that he was traded. He has a red hot go every week. If he can firther improve on his last year's form he will be an excellent player for us for a long time yet.

He possibly could be, but if Hart doesn't play, he probably would survive.

If Lynch doesn't play - dear god, are you listening to my prayers - then wouldn't Brisbane rest their rucks up forward? If so he'd be needed then I would think.

Possibly. One thing I know is that Leppa will play FF and Pike CHF. I guess Hound could play on Leppa but only if he plays in front. If Hound plays Leppa the same way he does against Barry Hall then he could possibly match up on Leppa leaving Kenny to play on th eresting ruckman or as a lose man in defence.

If Kenny is left as a loose man in defence he could have a bit of a field day with is marking when backing into packs.

Only problem playing Kenny as a loose man is that it is likely to free up Chris Johnson as a loose man in their defence. I know who would do more damage!

Harsh. Bode was one of our better players against Roos. In fact he was the only one that appeared interested in the second half. Very harsh.

Hart will only miss if injured. The other 2 are in real danger of losing their spot. Personally, I think that Burns will come in this week.

Stiffy, I agree that Bode deserves to keep his place after last week (& you guys know I have been a harsh critic of his). I would leave out anyone who is under an injury-cloud, be it Roo, Hart, Stinger &/or Hound.

Would give Perrie another week, which means Stevens probably has to wait (unless the Hound is injured).

Probably only a spot for 1 of Burns or Schuback.

Gags to come in if Edwards needs to move in the midfield for Roo.

Shirley probably keeps his spot if Stinger is injured.

Lot's of "ifs" at the moment, but also the case with the Lions.

We will get a better idea tonight.

If Edwards needs to move in the midfield I would rather bring in Schuback. The kid has shown that he can play Edwards role in defence very well. Another reason iw ould bring in Schuey before Gags is that he is more versatile. If needed Schuey can go up forward and be a cumbing forward who knows where the goals are. Something Gags is not.

I think naughty monkey wants Bode at Glenelg this week for obvious reasons :p

yes, but we'll lose Schuback.
North get Perrie but lose Ladhams.

neither here nor there.

and you don't have to wait until 5:30. I've just told you the ins and outs :)

Is this an April fools, or do already know that Ladhams & Shirley are in & that Perrie is out? If it's true, S Stevens is probably also in & I doubt Stiffy that Ronnie would get picked.

Need to play McGregor at CHB. Pike will murder the likes of Torney/Massie overhead.

I don't think there is any need to throw the names on the magnet board up in the air and play them where they land just yet. As already stated on this board, there are some obvious moves that need to made. Some sensible positional changes along with a lift in intensity & skill level will see us give the Lions a run for their money this week.

If those are indeed the changes, then I'm not entirely unhappy, as we certainly become a quicker, more skillful side (on the whole). Of course we actually need to get the ball first.
