Autopsy Round 2 Carlton v Collingwood Review/Post Mortem Thread

I used to like MK but now I'm in love with him! What a player.

There is no way we should have lost that game after Jolly went down. Anyone that says otherwise is sticking their head right intk st kilda beach's grainy best.

Dont want to point fingers but some players looked a class below.

Murphy was ok today but im getting a little antsy after his first two games as captain. Dying to see a big game from him to dispel my early fears.

We need a big month. If we lose the next two, well there goes top 4 and our shot at proper success. My early worry ks we may be reassessing what constitutes a successful season a little too early.

From an unbiased point of view, I thought that Collingwood cut you up through the middle in that last qtr. I couldn't believe how much space some of those Pies forwards were given. Similar to the NAB Cup grand final, when Brisbane used the corridor with little or no pressure from the Blues. McGrath & Bewick were given too much space.

What has happened to Simpson this year ? He looks like a player devoid of any confidence & seems to be rushing his kicks, without analysing the best options. Umpiring aside, I thought that Collingwood wanted the win more in that last qtr. Lynch worked himself into the ground & some of Cloke's last qtr contests were telling.

You really need a gorilla in the forward 50 who can take a pack mark & kick straight. Hampson may be good for a goal a game, but I don't think he'll be a spearhead.

Lucas presents a massive problem. Has all the tools, and should be stepping up by now. Unfortunately he has no hardness, can't tackle, poor decision making, and is probably #1 at the club for diabolical momentum-killing errors. (with apologies to Armfield)
Was crunched after he went back with the flight and held the mark.

Also WTF has happened to Carrazzo this season?

I can forgive Lucas the first missed tackle (very begrudgingly) but to do it again when you should be doing your absolute utmost to atone is just so weak. To his credit he took a courageous mark going back with the flight of the ball but like Murphy on Jackson last week, missed tackles like that just give so much impetus to the other team.

Pissed off with senior players like Murphy, Simpson and Carrazzo more than the young kids to be honest.
Finally someone has nailed it, I posted my concerns about these 3 individuals last week as something is not right with them!!

Might need to drop Simpson like St.Kilda did with Dal Santo a couple of years ago as he has been awful for consecutive weeks now.

As much as some people think Armfield and lucas should be dropped, Their ability to show courage today with both running into oncoming play was very encouraging. Even though i had no confidence in Sugars shot for goal last qtr. He proved me wrong and showed maturity and headstrong maturity to slot it

Bitterly disappointed. Too many reasons for a single post. Will give detailed thoughts after I've had a chance to digest the garbage.

I also haven't looked at the MVP thread... However, if I see even a single vote for #5 I'll vomit. 48% ED% (12/25). Of those that were effective (hit their target) at least 6 of them sold his recipient into direct danger. He had 6 good disposals of 25 (24%). Not good enough.

One other thought... Marc Murphy, I love you but Footsteps, you're not a captain. Twice in the last quarter you shat your pants like a kid about to get a strapping from their old man. Nobody waved the white flag faster or harder.

However, having said that... had the umpiring been even remotely fair through the first three quarters we'd have been seven or eight goals in front and would never have looked like losing.

oh and one more thing, they have told us how they practice their torps and then walker takes the last kick out and plays on and tries to tit up kruezer. Where was Jamo to take the torp and walks should have gone long and stright up the middle. everyone was set up for it.
To be fair Kreuzer should have attacked that ball a bit harder and marked it, nothing wrong with Walkers kick.

Kreuze looked out on his feet in the last quarter and his fatigue was the main issue in this instance after being great for the most part.

people are questioning murphy, he was in the rehab group for most of the pre season with his knee clean out wasnt he? give him 6 or so games to build up some form/fitness.

Bootsma has to go for you guys. Just gave a 2nd year player in Elliott the best game of his life.

Other than that you were very stiff, we didn't deserve that win due to our poor skills in the first half.

What a ridiculous comment. Perhaps Carlton didn't deserve to win because of their lack of accountability in the last quarter. That was a sensational win. If you can't appreciate it go and support another club. As for being very stiff, we had more inside 50's and muffed multiple chances to seal the game long before we did. We lost Jolly in the first 5 minutes and had to restructure our forward line . What game were you watching!o_O

Sorry mate, i had to say something to cheer them up ;)
What i meant was they looked better than us for 3qtrs.

I agree Wickzi, looked like Muhammad Ali trying to pick the ball up all day and continually kicked blindly.

Commentators get wrapped up in possessions way too much.

We were very stiff. Perhaps he's one that realizes that the game would have been over 10 minutes into the third quarter had the game been called remotely down the middle.

Best and fairest for you weren't even in your jumper today.

It sucks to lose but we were hell of lot better then we were last week and remained competitive with a side that is very likely to finish top four. We still have Scotland to come into the side next week and the only players I'd look at dropping would be Armfield for Scotland and Levi if Hampson/Waite are fit. We will definitely need to improve again if we are going to beat Geelong.

If it wasn't for Betts and Hammer injuries, can you honestly tell me that any one of:

Lucas, Touhy, Casboult, Joseph and Duigan

deserved another go this week?

The problem was from round 1. Laidler should've been selected immediately, so he could find form. Instead he comes in today in wet conditions without having played.

McLean as sub is just astonishingly stupid thing to do.

Davies being included is mystifying to say the least.

This coach has NFI, the game has passed him by, his idea of Arizona training has done NOTHING at all. It is a big waste of time because he wants a trip to America.

Believe it or not, but I also wanted Bootsma gone too after last week, but I didn't want to piss everybody off by making 6 changes.

We are not going to win a damn thing with these players:

Touhy
Joseph
Duigan
Davies

Lucas is on thin ice. VERY thin ice. His arms are like noodles when he tries to make a tackle, no wonder they alway break free from him.

As for our "star" players, Simpson has been average, Murphy has been crap as captain WTF was he doing trying to take a 1 hander on the wing? Gibbs again went missing today after a promising start, too many times he hesitated. Walker did a nice vanishing act too.

Premature view IMHO.

Don't disagree with much of what you're saying, except I think judgement needs to be reserved.

In relation to the players named.....

Touhy has potential, but prefer him forward and on the ball.
Davies, jury is out, leaning toward no thanks.
Duigan. Agree will be gone at year end
Joseph. Agree.

I think Lucas has plenty of 'hardness' as evidenced by his Walker-destroying mark.
The one thing I fault him on is his inability to stick tackles, which is probably due to poor technique or lack of strength as opposed to being afraid of physical contact.

Who missed several of their guns and plaued without a ruckman for 100mins. Most middle range teams would win that game.

Everyone is learning.

The first few weeks were always going to be tough. It's no good singling out one or two.

Agree with this.

Let's look at the reality of things:

- Despite some fanatics thinking it, we were never going to go close to a flag or really even Top 4. This year we should be aiming to make the Final 8 and doing a bit of damage when we get there. Despite the sky falling in over two losses, that is still very much a possibility.

- We have had two 'honourable' losses against an in-form Richmond and Collingwood who are a very very good side.

We may end up 0-5 but this year is going to be a 'slow burn' and we will improve as the year goes on. Let's not panic !

PS: and FFS, can people stop bitching about the umpires on the main board. Just makes us look like whingeing tosssers.
