Essendon travel to one of the flag favourites for the second game of the year, against a team that have had the wood over them for pretty much ever, the Dons only winning two games against Casey since they became stand alone in 2012, out of 12 meetings. Casey were undefeated during pre-season and also had a very convincing win round 1, whereas Essendon split their pre-season wins and had a loss to Geelong last week to start the season.

Casey were dominant against Sandringham, winning 140 to 57 on a windy day. Former Bomber Mitch Brown dominated the air inside 50, kicking 7 goals to go along with 19 touches to get an early lead in the Frosty Miller Medal alongside young gun Jacob van Rooyen with 3, whilst James Munro and Luke Dunstan did a mountain of work on the inside, combining for 51 touches, the latter also kicking a goal in his Casey debut.

Essendon struggled against Geelong for the majority of the game, but a promising last quarter was the highlight for the Dons which meant they only lost by 28 points. Kaine Baldwin kicked 3 last quarter goals in a confidence building game, whilst new captain Joe Atley was the only player to get over the 20 disposal mark for the Bombers.

Honestly would be happy to get within 10 goals. They're really good and we're really not

Their reserves team is ******* stacked!
Just reading through the two benches was enough for me to decide we probably won’t be winning a VFL flag this year. :tongueoutv1:

Expect Smith to come in for one of the VFL players. No Francis is very interesting. I'm hoping that we've decided to have 22 the entire time with Reid playing the first half and Walla the second or vice versa.

This is a real opportunity for Voss, Baldwin, Bryan, Hobbs, McDonagh, Waterman and/or Zerk to put their hand up for a game in the seniors against the Crows next Sunday. Will be interesting to see how Reid and Tippa go also - but they'll both likely be given a couple of weeks in the VFL before being considered for senior selection

I'm hopeful that Tippa can return quickly. If he maintained his physical fitness while being absent, he might not need to build up VFL form. Of course, his health must come first - but we could really use him.
