He's played on both, and tbh has had roughly equal levels of sucess on both.
Yep, bugger all on both.
I disagree that playing players in the back pocket develops them. I'd rather see players given a run on the ball, or on the wing for development.
One of the more rediculous comments i've heard on this board. A player can't be developed playing in the back pocket?????
- Can learn from playing on good forwards other strings to their bow.
- Develops their understanding of the importance of not being beaten one on one.
- Teaches them that there's 2 sides to a game, both attacking and defending and when to do both.
and so on and so on and so on.
If I had 10 Kyle Reimerses, he'd play in both back pockets, on the ball and in the forward pocket. My question is where he is most effective - as a back pocket, a running defender, an inside mid, an outside mid, a Kornes type tagger or a small forward - he can literally play any of those, and with aplomb. Would definitely be a better option that Slattery, but is also a better option elsewhere. Personally, I'd like to see him tagging like Kornes until Welsh gets back.
Would be excellent for Kyle's development to have some time down there.
Is definitely in line for a position, but I don't think he has the body strength to play on guys like Johnson, Motlop and Ebert, and would be slaughtered more than his namesake. If he plays this year, I think he should have a bit more latitude to run.
Get the kid in who is going to be better long term and develop them. Don't tread water with a proven dud.
McPhee showed this week why he MUST play forward, and NLM is less disciplined that Slats.
Mcphee and NLM have shown me that they don't really deserve a position anywhere but i'd have both before Slattery.
It's interesting that the player I consider Slats' biggest competition for his place - Atkinson - was left off your list.
I did mention that there a just a few names. You could throw him in too if you want.
To use an extreme example, McVeigh would probably be our best back pocket, but is better served in the midfield.
That is extreme and is a completely different arguement. Time for Slatt's to go.
